The absolute worst!!! I don't know what they wrote down but it was the opposite of what we ordered. What they did bring was sour and not edible. After that bite, I couldn't eat anything. My son had a steak burrito that had brown gravy on it? I've ate there for 30 years and never tasted anything like that. He ate it, now he's in the restroom throwing up. I'm so pissed! For Mexican in West Michigan this one is pretty good. I'm from Southern California where one lives on Mexican cuisine. To say it's authentic would be a stretch, however, best so far here. Get a double Cadillac Margarita for sure. Always a fave from SoCal days. read more

Just moved to the state so trying all these new places out and someone told us to give this place a try. Fist look the inside has a really cool vibe, rustic and cozy. The patio looks nice too but it was just too hot to sit at. Hubby and I both ordered off the lunch menu so we didn't try any of their " specials". Just went for basic becauee sometimes you can tell a lot about a place with their basics. I went with a beef taco and cheese enchilada hubby went with two tacos. Tacos were good, all the toppings were super fresh and they don't skimp which I liked. I loved the fact that the cheese was all the way melted in my enchilada.. yes I'm picky enough I don't like when it's not cooked in the middle. I was not a fan of the sauce.... At the start it looked good but definitely had a ketchup taste to it. Maybe just needed more spice? So I would maybe try the meat enchilada sauce if you decide to go that route. Salsa was decent.. and that's a compliment since I grew up in the west and salsa was a food group All in all if you are looking for a nice quiet lunch spot with great service, this is your place. read more

Cantina Mexican Grill, or "The Can" as it's known to locals, is a great local Tex-Mex spot. They're known for their free bean dip, Mexican pizza, drive through, and massive portions! A group of friends met there recently for some dinner and drinks. Our server was incredible - she was taking care of lots of tables including our group of 9 people with ease. She knew the menu like the back of her hand and we were never waiting long for anything. One of our friend's orders came out wrong, but they replaced it quickly. We were seated towards the back of the restaurant which was super cozy and a bit kitschy, but cute and felt private, which was nice. The space is really huge and there's a separate downstairs area with more seating. I got a frozen strawberry margarita, which was delicious! It wasn't too sweet and had a nice kick of tequila. It was only $9 which I think is a bargain these days. We had plenty of chips, salsa, and of course, the famous bean dip. The chips were super crispy and fresh, and not too salty. For dinner, I got the ultimate burrito with steak and chicken. The burrito was massive and really tasty! It has peppers and onions in it, which I'm not used to but was a nice change. The peppers were a bit undercooked for my liking, but I liked getting at least some veggies in my meal. The steak and chicken blew my mind - they were big, juicy chunks of meat that were delicious and perfectly cooked and seasoned. I honestly didn't have very high expectations for the food but was impressed! I took half home for leftovers. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, and I would love to come back and try the Mexican pizza and maybe another margarita. read more

By far my favorite Mexican restaurant in Grand Rapids. I love their bean dip that is free with the basket of chips. The enchiladas are my favorite. I was expecting white queso cheese on my food like all traditional Mexican restaurant serve but just got regular Colby Jack shredded cheese on my beef nacho..... after looking up the reviews I see that is the normal cheese they put on everything and I find that disappointing. The cheese was extremely salty paired with the beef and its seasoning, I couldn't eat half of my small nachos. The chips were half plain, half perfect and half over salty. Salsa was a bit spicy and okay but didn't taste authentic, more so from a jar. The small size was perfect for one person. Ordering take out today. I ordered the burrito combo for $8.99 and made it wet for an extra buck. The combo came with a burrito, chips and melted cheese and a soda. Great deal. The chips were nice and you can get salsa by request. It's gringo Mexican and the burrito was a little bland for my taste and the wet meat sauce on the burrito was just salty. The ground beef tasted like it was seasoned with a taco seasoning packet. If I'm going for gringo Mexican I usually will go to Beltline bar. This place was okay to try because I was in a rush and I appreciated the takeout... but the best part of the meal for me was the nachos with melted cheese. Probably won't seek it out again since the taste doesn't justify the calories. I think I gained 3 pounds polishing off that combo. This place holds some significance to my family. We held my Mother's memorial service there, so it's a good place and I enjoy the food quite a bit. I am very surprised, however, that they refuse to allow a called in order to be picked up through the drive through window. It was a Sunday afternoon and the place was justifiably busy, but I had to take up a parking spot, unload my walker, and bump my way past everyone in the place to get to the bar to fetch my take out order. It would make much more sense to pull up to the take out speaker and let them know I was there for my order, pull up, and get the food. But the food is good, the employees were pleasant. If you order something with Ranchero sauce, I recommend getting it on the side or ask them to go easy on the sauce, but other than that, it was worth the drive from across town to get the Fajitas and Burrito I ordered. read more

The atmosphere here is very nice. A little dark, and not sure it's authentic, but very homey and welcoming. They bring out some chips and salsa. I could be wrong but I don't think the chips are homemade. The salsa was ok. I prefer salsa a little thicker and little complex in taste. I ordered a half order of Mild Mexican Bbq Wings with Ranch. I was pleasantly surprised the flavor is a little subtle, but very good. They were cooked perfectly and I highly enjoyed it. Finally I ordered the Seafood Chimichanga. It was good, but I don't think I'd order it again. I didn't enjoy the rice. The service was very good at the start, but by the end it became slow and disjointed. Very pleasant employees though Overall I'd rate it 4 stars. Would I return? Yes. I'd definitely get wings again. I'd skip the Chimichanga. read more

I haven't found many places that have a wet burrito so I get excited when I see them on the menu. I split the Ultimate Wet Burrito with steak with my husband. It's huge! The steak was a little over cooked, but the ranchero sauce and cheese make up for it. I am craving another one as I look at the picture! I liked it better than the one at Beltline Bar. I joke about the infamous bean dip that sits in a crock pot in the corner, especially in the days of COVID, but my family liked it and went back for seconds. My daughter wanted chicken wings and they were good! Love the booth decor and overall atmosphere. One hostess was attentive and greeted us when we arrived then had to seat another table. Another hostess arrived, with AirPods, didn't say anything - maybe assumed our name had already been taken. The chicken street tacos were tasty but a bit overpriced , i asked for extra salsa and i was given a jalapeño one that was great to go with it. The chiles rellenos were soggy and not that good. The seats outside in the patio are awful as you sink in your chair for uncomfortable dining & very little shade for the outer tables. Had to move inside. There is complimentary bean dip that you can "help yourself to" . The first set of chips you get is free, any refills after are $2 each. Overall average experience read more

Love the bean dip in the drinks are good but overall, I think you can get better food other places. I have always had amazing service here, and the atmosphere is always good. I love the look of the restaurant there's always so much to see. Great bar and great drinks. My review is based completely on the catering order our company placed. I have never had a meal at their actual restaurant, so I can't comment on service. This large catering order was for 30 people I believe, and it honestly could have served closer to 50. Everyone was heading home with leftovers, which wasn't bad! The food is average Mexican that is still better than other catering options in the area. The chicken was seasoned well and the queso was very enjoyable. The chips were crispy and a couple of them had a seasoning on them but we wished they all had that! Overall, average Mexican that fit the bill for a large company catering order. read more

Ate at Cantina Mexican Grill yesterday and was quite disappointed. I had the burrito Magnifico and my wife had seafood enchiladas. Both of us felt they forgot to put the meat in our food, I had ground beef, which maybe equaled a couple of ounces and my wife said she never saw or tasted and shrimp in her enchiladas. The chips they give you are plentiful but very ordinary and fairly tasteless. Service was good for how busy they were, but we probably won't return. read more
