Create Your Own 3 Tacos. Steak (left), chicken (center), and chorizo (right)

We were excited to see a new Mexican place open in Ada! They have moved into the old Ada Pour House location and are open for takeout during COVID. We walked in and were greeted right away and offered a physical menu or QR code to use a digital menu on our phone. The menu is large and you can find Americanized options are very authentic options. I opted to create my own 3 tacos as authentic as I could. I ordered 1 steak, 1 chicken, and 1 chorizo. You then get to choose 2 toppings, so I added onion and cilantro. You then pick your shell type, which included hard or soft and flour or corn. They also give you limes on the side. The tacos were delicious and the portions were generous. I was definitely full after my 3 tacos and the complimentary chips and salsa. The spicy salsa was definitely spicy and it was full of flavor. We also loved the mild salsa. My wife had the Burrito Norteno is she enjoyed it. It was rather cold, which we figured was because it was takeout and we had to get home first but my tacos were still steaming hot. So maybe the tacos being wrapped in foil worked much better than the container holding the burrito. Overall, we will definitely come back and get our Mexican fix!

We've been to Lalo's a couple of times recently for take out. Each time there was a decent crowd in the restaurant. Nice feel for a small place. One thing we have experienced when ordering is how difficult it was. Not easy. Issues with each order. Mistakes made. Communication problems. Those difficulties could be overlooked with exceptional meals, but that didn't materialize on either visit. Average fare each time. Beef burritos the first time and fish tacos for the 2nd visit. Ok meals, but just average. Not terrible. Not exceptional. Perhaps ok.

Lalos of Ada is a small Mexican grill and bar in Ada. The outdoor patio was nice and shaded on a hot summers night. My husband was so excited to try this place and I have heard great things about it from family friends! However, I was extremely disappointed. The drinks, food and service was all a disappointment. First off I had to ask three times for water, and I noticed our server went to another table 4 times before coming to us... AND got them water before getting mine after asking twice. Finally on the third time I got my water. The Paloma I ordered had a funky taste to it and the meat in my fajita quesadilla was tough and the runny cheese inside made it soggy (I even got the cheese that was supposed to be on top on the side). My husband thought his burrito was "okay". It might have been a bad experience on my part because I have heard good things about this restaurant!

We came here on a Thursday night at 5:30, and had our food about ten minutes within walking through the front door. The salsa isn't spicy, but the flavor was great. The entrees are not heavy with cheese, and the beans were definitely house made. Vegetarian friendly. I'll definitely come again!

So one of the great things about travelling and then googling places is that if you're willing, you go off the beaten path and get to experience surprises. Sure, you might end up in a neighborhood where you lock your car doors, but more often you get to places like this. I'm sure this is a local's joint, and it was busy when we arrived after the last place we checked was busy (and had no alcohol). We ended up going back up the highway and then off on a road that was almost 'in the country'...meaning no housing and not much industry...until we came around the bend, bunch of businesses and this really cool small mall where this place is. we got spots at the bar, and i can only say they're busy and maybe not enough staff, so be patient. I had a Pacifico, which our waitress served as a bottle - when it was on tap - but probably just a misunderstanding as I didn't specify. That was okay, gave me an excuse to suck it down and get a margarita. I drank mine and my girlfriends (one frozen, one on the rocks), both were delicious. It took a while for the food to arrive but the chips and salsa were good and kept us munching. I won't answer for my girlfriend's food cause she got the combo and why when you can have something like chimichangas like I did? It was the lunch special so just two, but the chicken was good and all the ingredients fresh and flavorful. Not overly fried and I wolfed both. The ambiance and decor where nice, and once the lunch crowd died down it quieted down a bit. A good find!

Had the Swole Bowl and truly enjoyed it, the flavors melded well together and the meal came already packed in a to go bowl (just pop on the lid) which you will definitely need! I asked the hostesses a couple times if there was an estimated time it would be ready and they said "no idea" and acted like there was nothing they could do. I stood there watching orders come out for pickup at 7:02pm, 6:58pm, etc all show up. Yet mine, that was promised at 635pm was still not ready when those were coming out. This location has terrible options for parking to pick up orders so it was extremely annoying having to wait that long after the scheduled pickup time. Worst of all, when I got home, our order wasn't even correct! We had two bud boxes with two tacos in each one. My wife had two of the same tacos in here's even though she ordered two different ones. Mine had some sort of brisket taco in it instead of the chicken one I ordered. AND the tacos and queso were very cold. So I don't know what was going on with this location and this order but it was a complete disaster and major letdown. I even tipped a few dollars on the to go order, when I placed it, only to be severely let down on all fronts by the staff and food.

Its now located in the basement of a small restaurant complex, open kitchen layout, kind of a bar-ish feel around. I thought they maybe shared the space with another business but im not 100% sure. I tried 4 different proteins in taco form - chicken, carne asada, flank steak and al pastor. To rank them, 1a Chicken, 1b pastor, 2 carne asada, all 3 of those were top notch, the flank steak was hit or miss for me, some bites were tasty others were to fatty/gelatinous for me. White onion and cilantro on top, went light on those which I would have liked more of. Hand made tortillas were also great. My big issue was the price point.. +$5 for each taco is to steep for a midwest taqueria in the basement of a restaurant. If price wasnt an issue for me then this would be the only taqueria I would go to in GR, but unfortunately price does play a part, but i will say they didnt skimp on the protein. I ordered 2 Tostada, 1 chicken and 1 shredded beef. I only received the 1 chicken tostada and I really wish I could have tried the shredded beef. But if I were to go back I would 100% get the tostada again, it was delicious, my favorite item by far, $7 for the tostada and although steeper then I feel its worth, it felt more worth then the $5 tacos and if I go back it will be what I order. Instead of a Tostada I got a mystery meat quesadilla. Authentic quesadilla but not what you expect if you are use to ordering them at other local joints. It was decent but definitely a grease ball. It was our least favorite item. We also ordered chips with 2 salsa and a side of guacamole. Chips and salsa were $8, chips were okay, homemade for sure but enough of the chips didnt feel fully fried. Salsas came in 2 2oz cups, again felt weak for the price point. No way those chips made it through that salsa, probably not even half the chips made it through the salsa, needed way more. The worst thing we tried by far was the $5 guacamole in a 2.5 Oz container. If im paying $5 for guacamole I expect more then half an avacado worth of guacamole, on top of that it was mid guacamole at best. The 2 salsa was a salsa verde and a peanut salsa, i didnt catch which pepper was used in the peanut salsa. The salsa verde was okay, somewhat bland. The peanut salsa was fabulous, I loved that it was not too spicy but so much flavor, will be one of the main reason I return. The owner was so so friendly, it was only him and 1 other dude. Im not trying to rip the business but to make it my go to taqueria would be hard to justify with what I got and what I paid for. My personal opinion, if the owner is making tortillas like that I would love to try a big flour tortilla burrito with that peanut salsa. Overall for the price point it was hard to justify. Some of the food i got was really delicious, some of it really didn't hit. Ill definitely be back but ill give it some time.

The owner was super sweet, and it was fun getting to converse with him for a bit. This place takes card, cash, and accepts Apple Pay (not sure about Google Pay, but can ask next time). Los Pinches GR make the Mexican staples- tacos ($2.99), tortas ($10), quesadillas ($6/$9), and burritos ($10). They also have desserts ($4.50), like conchas rellenas, and carota (Mexican lemon pie). For drinks, they have water, coke, Jarritos, and Mexican coke. I got the pastor and suadero tacos. The portions were smaller than I expected, so I would recommend getting three tacos if you want to come out feeling satiated. I really loved the suadero (brisket confit) tacos - I would recommend trying that one. The brisket was tender and juicy - I did wish they added more of it to my taco! The pastor taco was pretty good. Something that did surprise me was how juicy the limes were. I always ask for limes with my tacos at Mexican restaurants, but they usually turn out to be dry, which leaves me barely any juice to squeeze out. However, the limes Los Pinches GR gave me were really juicy! The little things that bring me joy.... I had heard that this place had good food, but because the price point was a bit higher than average, I wanted to try it for myself before bringing my family. The service was attentive and friendly. The food, however, did not meet expectations. I found the deviled eggs to be overcooked and a bit rubbery while simultaneously lacking flavor. The presentation was nice but I care more about the taste than how it looks. The Tavern Smash Burger does not seem to know what it wants to be. The patties were thicker than a traditional smash burger, lacking the juiciness of a regular burger while also missing the caramelization of your typical smash patty. The accompanying "Chef's Sauce" for the burger was not particularly flavorful and there was not enough acidic content to counter the fattiness of the burger. The bacon that topped the burger was cubed pieces that were chewy and frankly off-putting, and I found myself wishing for crispy bacon strips instead. All in all, I really wanted to love this place, but I just don't. The food wasn't terrible, but also nowhere near good enough to justify the cost or make me want to stop back in.
