My brother frequents this restaurant and it was my first time. Friendly service and super busy on a Friday night. Started with the soft pretzel and it was outstanding!! We recently had our second visit at BJ's - our first time there (last December) was so good, we couldn't wait to get back. Unfortunately, this second experience was nothing like the first one. First off, the restaurant was FREEZING (this particular visit was in early/mid September with temps in the mid 70s). It was so cold we were actually shivering (we both had on shirts/tops that covered our arms), and we saw other people going out to their vehicles and coming back in with jackets and sweaters because they were so cold. Second, the music was unreasonably loud (so it was difficult to talk to each other). Also, my silverware was dirty with dried food stuck on it from a previous user (gross!). And lastly, a server to nearby tables (not ours) walked around chomping and smacking her gum while carrying drinks and trays of food. That's kinda disgusting. Also, just a side note: the lighting in the bathroom was really, really dark for whatever reason. We did notice the portion sizes were much smaller than on our previous visit. We ordered the Brisket & Bacon Burger on our first visit and came back for it on this visit because we couldn't get over how delicious it was. It was so big last time it was a struggle to eat it all - let alone enjoy very many of the delicious fries that came with it. So this time we decided to split one, and order an extra side of fries so we could have both regular and sweet potato fries. Unfortunately, the burger was nowhere near as big as it was before. There was hardly any brisket or bacon on it, so there was no need to split one. When we got our bill, we were charged $4 for the extra plate. I can understand the extra $4 charge if our meal was served to us on two plates, but it wasn't. Our server brought us an empty plate and we had to cut the burger and serve it to ourselves. And, considering we had ordered an extra side of fries, we already had a second plate so there was no need for the one the server brought us (and charged us for!). Otherwise, our server was okay, but the only time he smiled was when he brought us the bill (I guess he thought that last impression of him would earn him a better tip?). Guessing BJ's has staffing issues, because we had to wait about 15 minutes for a table at 4:30pm on a Tuesday in a pretty barren looking restaurant. In hindsight I wish we hadn't waited for a table... because they weren't willing to offer their happy hour menu pricing unless you sat at the bar. Hate that policy! I'll start with the good.. the service was really great! Mikayla was so sweet and fun and really enhanced our experience. If it wasn't for her I'd have lowered this to 2 stars. Now for the food... Their mozzarella sticks were pretty rough, their spinach artichoke dip was just ok, and pot stickers decent. The appetizer we were impressed by was the garlic shrimp with toast, it was unique and had bold savory flavors. Went for dinner with my wife last Friday night around 745pm. I made a reservation online for 8pm, but we were seated right away and probably didn't really need the reservation. It was pretty full, but they had a few extra tables for any walk-ins. The menu has a huge variety of food so you'll find something for everyone. They also have some great meal deal specials that include a drink, entree and dessert. The highlight of the night though was our server, Emalee. She was probably one of the most attentive servers I've ever had at a restaurant. She's extremely friendly and you can tell she is hustling to make sure her tables are well taken care of. My wife and I actually started joking that our table had a microphone, or she could read our minds, because every time we needed something she was already on top of it. Even to the point that I dropped my napkin and she delivered a new napkin roll without me even seeing it. I was as if it appeared out of nowhere. The wings were good, but nothing special. The Bacon Onion Jam doesn't have a strong flavor and not sure why it's an extra $3. They are tender, but a little fatty. I also ordered the New Orleans Jambalaya ($24). This has Blackened chicken breast | sautéed shrimp | chicken-andouille sausage | bell peppers | onions | tomatoes | cajun-spiced broth | and rice pilaf. To start with this is good, it's just not New Orleans, Cajun, or Creole. I'm pretty sure the main spice is just Old Bay. It is still a tasty dish, though not one I'd drive a long distance for. Not great, but tasty enough to pick up a 3/5 or 3.5/5 Sapporo Waterfall Rice Lager: Like a beer version of the salad I had... refreshing. If you get this one, let it settle on the pallet just for 3-5 seconds. Very intriguing taste. Solid 4.5/5. Pepperoni Pizza: sort of similar in taste to the deep dish ziti. Was ok. Nothing special, but nothing offensive either. Our family also had a nice brisket bacon burger (my son devoured it too quickly for me to get a taste-lol, so I can't give it a grade). For 6 people, and with booze (I wasn't the only one to get a drink) about $200, so $30-$35 per person. Not bad. Reasonable. We tried to get here early at 5 pm, but it was a Saturday and also seemed to coincide with a prom night of some sort, so we had to wait 30 minutes. Still... food was good enough for me to say "worth the wait." At the end of the day, a good 4.25/5. As stated, we are not "chain" fans (or at least I'm not), but this was not only solid, but returnable (meaning it is worth returning to). Job well done. :) Ps: don't forget about the Pizookie. First, I have eaten at BJ's for years in Brea, CA. When I went here, I 0assumed" since it was a chain, it would be the same. Wrong! The avocado eggrolls were inedible as was the clam chowder. If I can see the flour in chowder, thats a fail, and very small cruchy thin clams, also a fail. The eggrolls were encased in a flour tortilla and deep fried. Way too much tortilla that obstructed the taste. My waiter was gracious and I left the guy a generous tip to make up for him working there. I will not return. read more

After being seated we waited about 10 minutes to be greeted by a server. He then was acting very unprofessional and immature when greeted. He seemed as if he had never been around the service industry before. When he then brought drinks it was the wrong amount of drinks. When we had finished eating he would take our dirty dishes and place them on clean tables until those filled up.He then was blaming his co workers that they weren't helping him out. This was our first time at BJ's in GR. I have been before - but in different locations. This was my mom's favorite restaurant. She passed away in 2021 and to celebrate her, we went to her favorite restaurant. It was a bit after 7pm on a Saturday night. It was busy and they were on a wait, but we sat at the bar as usual. The space is big and has capacity for large parties. Michigan and Michigan State played tonight so that might partially explain the wait. Tyler was our server/bartender and took the time to explain the specials and the benefit of signing up for their loyalty program (free pizookie!) We each ordered a beer - a blonde for the Mr and I had the commitment double IPA. Both were good. Seemed a bit more tame for a DIPA than I'm used to, but I was happy with it. For dinner he had the prime rib special, he had a Caesar salad that had raw onion in it. Odd add and we were not fans. It wasn't listed in the description on the menu or he would have asked for it without. For sides he had white cheddar mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. Those potatoes were so dang good!! Asparagus was "fine". Not a rave review. What stood out the most was the prime rib. He ordered medium and if you look at the picture you can tell it was cooked on the top, as if it had been on a flat top not sliced from a roast. He likened it to a steak with prime rib seasoning. I had the protein bowl with blackened salmon and I loved it! The salmon was cooked perfectly and the rest of the items in the bowl were so good. I'm a HUGE fan of pickled onions and there was a decent amount on there. Because the prime rib special includes a pizookie we had the strawberry shortcake and it was a highlight of the meal FOR SURE. The warm sugar cookie with vanilla bean ice cream and strawberries was to die for. I would go back for that alone. I wanted to love this place because of the variety of options they offer. We were immediately seated upon arrival. Our server was very sweet! She brought our two kids goldfish crackers and a side of fruit complementary while we looked through the menu. Immediately after she came back we ordered. 2 kids meals, soup and salad combo and a hamburger it took 40 mins to arrive. The brócoli and cheddar soup is very thick and creamy but a little bland. The Cesar salad was fine nothing special. Both these items are unlimited and you can switch out the soups. I also tried the tortilla soup and man was that salty! They add the tortilla chips in so they were mush given it took so long to come out. The burger was loaded up and although that was fine the fries were stale and cold. The kids Mac and cheese was as expected no issues. The drink for this meal took an additional 20 mins for the server to bring out. We also ordered a kids boneless meal, both chicken and fries were cold and they gave half of a container of sauce which only covered about 3 pieces. Although we asked for more of the sauce it never came. When we asked for our bill the server told us she would remove the burger because she said "the wait for your food was crazy" and of course we agreed. The manager, Shannon came over to apologize and said he would "whip the kitchen into shape" and asked if there was something else we wanted he would bring it. The kids asked for dessert. The server promised us the dessert would come right out. We ordered the chocolate cookie and the Carmel one - there speciality and the thing they have most on hand. It took an additional 30 mins! I had to get up and grab someone to see what the status was. Sure enough she comes back with one cookie and says "we owe you the other because we forgot about it". Huh? Anyway it was just way too long of a stop. We went here for the first time recently with our granddaughters. We had high hopes. The interior is nice- spacious and well-designed. However, it was so cold we never took our heavy coats off. This is a huge chain restaurant that recently opened up a location in Grand Rapids. The staff was very friendly and you could tell they were still learning table numbers, how to place orders from their tablet, and how to estimate wait times. At 5:30pm on a Tuesday, they had a 30min wait, even though half of the tables were empty, which makes me think they're having staffing issues as well. We ordered two things that they were sold out of, the Southwest egg rolls and the ribeye. This seemed weird for a Tuesday at 5:30pm. This makes things very awkward/uncomfortable for the server because he didn't know they were out of these things until he tried to enter our order on his tablet. The "kids starter" is a cool complimentary idea where they brought my 2 year old daughter a cup of fruit and crackers right after we sat down. The Mac and cheese bites were pretty good and we enjoyed the Brussels. My steak was cooked nicely and I liked the seasoning as well. The mashed potatoes were pretty cold and the grilled veggies were basically raw, which was disappointing. Their pizza is unique and receives quite a bit of criticism, but I enjoy it. I like the deep dish style with very light sauce. My daughter's kids pizza was delicious. Overall, cool atmosphere and friendly staff. The food can be hit or miss. Was hesitant to eat here again after we had a bad experience at another location, but I have to say they have upped their game! Our server was Sarah and she was amazing, if you are lucky enough to be at her table you will defiantly not be disappointed! We had never been to this establishment, but had heard about it from different groups of friends. We were greeted very warmly by the staff at the front door and were shown to our table after about a 25 minute wait. The server approached the table and reviewed the featured drink items, including the non-alcoholic beverages. We placed our appetizer order and our dinner order along with our drinks. The drinks arrived after a brief wait. Our appetizer arrived, unfortunately without any appetizer plates or the ranch dressing that we requested. The server, not ours, who dropped the appetizer order at the table, left before we had a chance to mention it. Within a few minutes, possibly 5 at the most, our dinner arrived, again delivered by another staff member, not our server. We were finally able to get our servers attention who brought the ranch out for the appetizer that we had not had a bite of yet. Our server noticed that my water glass was empty, and my daughters soda was quite low and stated that he would return with more drinks. 25-30 minutes later I had to approach the front (hostess?) stand and asked if she would be so kind as to find our server. I explained that he had never came back at all, including to deliver our drinks. I asked if she could have him bring the check. She returned a few moments later (a shining star in an otherwise dismal dinner) to explain that he has been in the kitchen waiting on some food. She also apologized, which was very commendable given that she wasn't responsible for the poor service. When we did see him, he was carrying a tray of drinks (not food) and dropped our check at the table without a word. No apology, nothing. My wife asked if she could speak with a manager and explained the service, actually the lack of service and how we were disappointed. His response was lackluster and obtuse. He didn't care, offered no apology and simply said "if you've never been here before that's not how we run this place" and " you can tip on the service received." I spent almost 20 years in the food service industry and was confounded by this response. I've worked the dish tank, prepped food in the kitchen, expedited on the line when the tickets are coming in so fast it looks one continuous order. I've waited tables, slung drinks, trained waitstaff and opened restaurants here in the states and overseas. I've never, in all my years would have thought anyone in a management role could be so worthless. That's the representative of your business and the face of your restaurant when dealing with the public.
