    Eggplant Parmesan

**vegetarian review** This place isn't the most vegetarian friendly. I got the focaccia, eggplant and margarita pizza to share with friends and the tricolour salad for myself. The focaccia was nothing special. On its own it didn't have much flavour. I wish it had more salt or some herbs. The eggplant dish was really good. Perfectly baked and lots of sauce. The margarita pizza was pretty basic. The salad was kinda meh as well. The dressing was very simple and not worth the price at all. Over all an expensive place that I don't really recommend.

Be warned, if you order takeout from this restaurant, they will not give you any silverware. You spend $80 for food, a pizza, a spaghetti, carbonara, and a Caesar salad and I guess they expect you to eat with your hands. The hostess looked at me with this look of stupefaction on her face and said we don't do that here. I said "what, you don't offer silverware?" She then suggested going next-door to an unaffiliated restaurant and asking them if they had silverware. I just walked out of there because I wasn't ready to start screaming but I think it's pretty sad when a restaurant can't offer you silverware or napkins or plates. Not coming back.

When we asked ChatGPT for the best tiramisu in Carmel, Cantinetta Luca topped the list. Since we were nearby, we gave it a shot. The tiramisu, served in a cup, was too thick sweet for our taste. Rustic version of the famous dessert. However, the coffee and cocktails were ok.

Quaint place in Carmel. Helpful staff. Good vegetarian options. Fungi pizza was great. The pesto pasta dish was so simple yet delicious. Vegetables were perfectly cooked. Margarita pizza was so good that my daughter finished the whole thing. Soft as a cloud focaccia bread. Would definitely recommend this place if you are around Carmel.

The sizing of the plates was kind of confusing as some plates were way so big and some plates were so small for the price. The comforting food included a delicious minestrone soup. The shared appetizer featured must-try grilled shrimp and broccolini, but the eggplant parm was disappointing. The main courses we ordered were braised lamb, and carbonara pasta which we thoroughly enjoyed. Despite the disappointment with the eggplant parm, the overall dining experience was very good, earning it a four-star rating from us.

It was a beautiful restaurant, perfect for our girls weekend. The staff was very attentive and the tiramisu was delicious

Great Italian food in Carmel! Started with the Focaccia and Warm Olives. These were a nice complement to each other. I wish the bread had some olive oil and balsamic on the side because it was just a little bland, but it was delicious once we dipped in some oil that we asked for. My mom got the Baked Eggplant for her main and it was small but really good. I split the Tagliatelle Bolognese and Pumpkin Tortelli with my dad. Both of these were so good - wow. I recommend sharing these because the pumpkin tortelli was very rich, delicious but it would have been a little too rich for me by myself. Definitely will be coming back when I'm in the area

I am actually quite surprised that the reviews as a whole are below four stars on Yelp. Cantinetta Luca is located right in the heart of downtown, close to most of the tasting rooms and some of the hotels and shops. We didn't make reservations for this night, so we wandered for a bit and stumbled across this place. There was no wait so we opted to try it out. Their outdoor seating is very nice, but they only had availability inside. The indoor decor is on the fancy side, but even though we were not dressed nicely, we didn't feel uncomfortable. Service was decent. Our server was nice, but obviously seemed busy so not super attentive. It seemed that many of the servers had sections that were bigger than they could handle. They did have other people coming around filling water, which helped. Food-- everything was great, although the prices were high for what is served. The carrot side was a whopping $16 which seemed absurd, both before and after them arriving to the table. They were good, but didn't have any recognizable flavor other than... carrots. The eggplant parm was our favorite thing, but sadly there is no option to get it with a side of pasta to make it a meal. If I was able to do so, I would definitely be back to order that. The pumpkin raviolis were good, but very sweet forward. No savory relief. Lastly, we got their fennnel sausage pizza which was really delicious!

I made a reservation for my husband and I online the week of our trip (the website and online reservation was super easy to use) and I was able to select outdoor seating since we were bringing our dog with us. Bonus: they are dog friendly! When we arrived we were able to find street parking right away (there is lots of street parking in the area). We were greeted by a very warm and friendly hostess. Our waitress was equally as amazing very attentive to us, refilling our drinks when needed (including the dog's water bowl) and checking in with us. The food was so yummy and delicious. We got the garlic bread to start and it was so light and airy. I was worried the bread was going to be heave and dense and that I would get full from it, but it was the opposite. The garlic and cheese added so much flavor to the bread. My husband got the Fangool pizza which he said was absolutely delicious and finished the whole thing. I got the cheese ravioli and it was also delicious, the cheese in the ravioli was so good and the pasta was cooked perfectly. It is a very cute place to eat and we actually enjoyed sitting in the patio with the cute decor it made you feel like you were eating in Italy. We will definitely be coming back here next time we're in the area.

Hostess named Audrey, told us that outside was closed - we understood being it may be a waitress/staffing thing I'm aware of with my experience as a previous waitress. The party before us was seated outside who were Caucasian with no problem. But by next person to be seated AFTER US, Audrey gave them an option to be seated inside or outside. That took us off guard since we literally just asked to be outside. If it's racial profiling- please do better. If not, please go over the manners being in a role of "providing service". My family and I were not rude at all to receive this kind of treatment. We walked out bc we don't want to give any of our money to possible racial discrimination especially on my birthday. ETA: I don't usually write reviews unless I think it's immensely helpful but reading other reviews also seems like this restaurant does have some racial discrimination. I'm a person to believe the best in people but if there's a pattern, you believe what this business chooses to show. ABSOLUTELY DO NO RECOMMEND IT HERE.

I tried a mussel and the sauce was excellent. Gnocchi (small $22, large $44): I was hesitant about ordering gnocchi because I never like the gnocchi I've ordered at other Italian restaurants. Never thought me a gnocchi snob, but here I am. But other reviews raved about Il Tegamino's gnocchi (our waitress included) so I did it. Ok fine it's the best gnocchi I've ever had. Pillowy soft, straight out of the oven, still sizzling and bubbling when it was placed in front of me. It was cheesy and potatoey without either flavor overpowering the other, and the mushroom truffle sauce is IT. It needs the sauce. I ordered the large and had leftovers to share with my mom, but you bet I could've finished it. I would come back just for this! We picked this place expecting it to be a treat and a bit of a splurge, so we expected the prices. Our server was lovely; my friend loves sweeter white wines but a Moscato wasn't on the menu. She disappeared into the kitchen and came back out with a heavy pour of Moscato and my friend loved it! I first thought it was bold of her to assume she'd want the full glass but she was right :)

The first thing they brought out was bread with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette and, no joke, that ended up being my favorite bite of the meal. I was still thinking about the bread while eating everything else, which probably says more than I intended. The clam chowder was good and comforting, but if you've had chowder in Monterey, you know the bar is pretty high. The calamari was the bigger disappointment. It was chewy instead of tender and didn't have that light, crispy crunch that makes calamari worth ordering in the first place. By the time we finished the chowder and calamari we were full, but we still looked through the menu to see if anything tempted us. Honestly, nothing really stood out. The pasta prices felt steep, and there wasn't a dish that made us say, "Okay, we have to come back and try that." The only thing that really took away from the experience was how close the tables were. I could hear the people next to us whispering and accidentally became invested in a conversation I was never invited to. Overall, it's a cute place with great service and a nice ambiance that's worth checking out if you're visiting Carmel. I don't regret going, but I also don't see myself going back. On the bright side, at least the bread gave me something to remember. Someone in that kitchen deserves a raise for that basket alone.
