What the hell happened to this place?? Used to be amazing! Apparently the owners changed but the food now sucks!! Wont go back. Why did you have to coagulate your amazing hot oil? This place is pretty great. The "vibe" of the restaurant is usually pretty nice and it is well decorated. The portions you get are fantastic. When you buy a meal here, expect to be able to feed three people off one plate of food. When you buy chicken for instance, it feels like your buying a literal whole chicken for 6 bucks. Food here is tasty, and I would know. Whenever I go into a new town I always make sure to try out the local Chinese place. I have not found a Chinese restaurant yet that compares in portion size, or tastiness, of the food that Canton Wok offers. You will get your moneys worth here. I only gave it 4 stars for a few slight issues that I have, that many people might not care about or notice. The employees are friendly and will take good care of you, to make sure your getting value from the establishments. On this note however they do seem genuinely unhappy. If your sensitive to peoples energies you might not like this aspect. There is a really strong feeling you get that the manager is sort of a Nazi (so to speak) behind close doors because the waitresses always seem like they are being overworked. They run around super fast with a subtle fear that the stress of an angry manager is coming their way anytime soon. This may also seem obvious at a Chinese restaurant but the food is extremely salty. My grandmother has a heart condition that when she eats large amounts of salt she gets water in her lungs and the food here does it to her like clockwork, so its obviously not healthy. When i eat her I drink at least three glasses of water usually unconsciously because my body is dehydrated from the salt. This is a small point really though because you eat out for fun and tasty food, not to get healthy. Another small point is the kitchen is very close to the tables so you can hear the ruckus of clinking dishes and shouting employees occasionally. So like I said before most people wont even notice but the more sensitive of you out there may want to keep this in mind, specially if you want a quiet romantic dinner with a fine young lady. Overall I highly recommend this place for an outing with the family, or lunch with your buddies. I do not recommend as a place for a romantic dinner though as there is finer, higher quality places in The Dalles if you want to take your date out to a nice location. Most people in most situations (specially tourists) will be pleasantly surprised by this small town gem. read more

I have eaten here before and for the area it was reasonable, however today was a terrible experience. I ordered hot and sour soup and it was no way what I ordered. I question the waitress and she confirmed that it was hot and sour. What ever it was it tasted terrible. I had two spoon fulls and that was all I could handle. The waitress saw that I did not eat it, yet she did not ask if something was wrong with it. As for the dinner I had a spicy chicken dish which was hot yet less than average. If you are looking for quantity this is your place. They give you enough food for 3 people. As I said for the area it is fair. Went to eat dinner at the wok today and it was one of the worst experiences I've had in a while! The waitress was rude and non attentive and the food was horrible. The beef broccoli we ordered tasted like the meat had been reheated from Monday! (2 days before) must have sat in the fridge for that time and the rice tasted like it was from the weekend!! I went to lunch with 15 other people of my family and they took great care of us. They were patient with grandma not knowing what to order. They brought out another pitcher of soda for refills. And yes, the portions were HUGE. It is mostly Americanized Chinese food, but there were a few more authentic dishes like the Singapore noodles that I got. The food here is awesome! Service in the bar is great too. The egg flower soup has a little too much corn and peas, but it's still good. The portions are so freaking huge you might want to share. We ordered one combination meal, and I have never seen such a large amount of food for one person ever before. We managed to put a dent in it and what we took home was two meals worth. I'm not kidding. This time we sat in the bar, it's nicer than the restaurant and has a super duper happy hour menu. The times are pretty generous too, between 3:00 and 8:00 pm, offering coconut prawns $3, Mar Far chicken and a lot more. We make a lot of trips back and forth on I-84 and this was a great stop just far enough outside of Portland. The other reviewers aren't kidding, the portions are amazing, but just as awesome was the service. We had Becky help us out and she really made us feel like family. Had a chat with the owner and I think we may have gotten invited to dinner at her home someday. Take a chance and slip in here off the highway for some incredible food at a great price. Everything we ordered was served with such speed we weren't sure how it would taste, however it was so full of flavor and tasted so fresh that everyone in our five person group was pleased with this meal. We are on a river cruise with American River Cruises. The Dulles was one of our stops. We decided to walk the town. It's a great old Lewis and Clark river town. We saw the sign for Cantonese food and stopped in. Wow! What great food. I had the vegetable chicken, my husband had Kung Pow beef. Portions were huge. I was craving some Chinese food while staying in the Dalles so I decided to give Canton a try. I am glad I did. I ordered take out, lemon chicken, Kung Pao chicken with half pork fried rice. Not only was there a massive amount of food, it was very well prepared, very tasty and satisfying. The lemon chicken was actual chunks of real chicken, not pressed chicken "parts'. The Kung Pao was addictive and the pork fried rice very solid. I ate for four nights on that order. It was so good I went back the following week and tried the cashew chicken and BBQ pork. Both were very good. BBQ pork was moist and tender. The cashew chicken had a nice mellow flavor to it with lots of tender chicken and vegetables. Very satisfied and pleased and will be returning to enjoy another entree. read more

The food though was less then exciting - the Kung Pao was very blan and I would say mediocre to border line - bad. I would not come back here again. I should have read the other reviews first- and realized...it may be the only Chinese restaurant in the Gorge. :( read more
