Ideally located right downstairs if you are staying at the Inn or if you are just passing through and need a bite to eat. We checked in to the hotel and went down for dessert & a drink. I had a vanilla milkshake & shared with my toddler! My teenager had vanilla ice cream sundae with chocolate fudge. The family shared and order if fresh crisp fries. We returned in the morning for breakfast & because we stayed at the Inn we had a 20% off discount. Coffee for the adults, hot chocolate for the kids. Portions were big, decent food. This place is great. Me and my mom ordered chicken fry steaks while my brother ordered chicken and waffles, and it tasted great! The chicken fry, I mean. Anyway, the servers we had were really friendly, even though there is only a couple of them. The place was quite busy, and country songs like Garth Brooks playing in the background, which was nice. I ordered some kind of flavored juice that tasted awful, organic Tractor something, yuck. Service was okay. Ambiance (and food) is old fashioned. I ordered a salad with a nice piece of salmon on it, but the rest of the menu reminded me of the Midwest, unappealingly. read more

This used to be THE place to stop for a great meal when traveling thru the Columbia Gorge. We stopped for dinner last weekend and were so disappointed. We were seated fairly quickly and they weren't busy at all. Maybe a dozen other folks there. Five different staff walked by without acknowledging us. I thought it strange that nobody said anything. I've been coming out to Cousins from Portland for years. The best thing in their menu were the Cousins Beans. Well...they've messed the place up and have "new management" now. They cut a ton of stuff off the menu to include the cousins beans. I won't be returning. Late lunch at Cousins, went to check out their remodel. My husband's Reuben sandwich was dry. There was no sauce on it. When the server stopped by and asked how everything was, he was honest. She took the sandwich. He declined a "replacement". She brought a cinnamon roll as a gesture and our check. His sandwich of $18. was still on the bill. This place makes as many things homemade as they can and it shows. My salad dressing was homemade, my Turkey dinner was delicious. The server told me just to ask for any extra gravy or anything I needed. My son and husband got burgers and my husband said it had been ages since he had a good burger. We were offered free fry refills but we didn't take any because we were so full. Honestly we rented our room for another night just to hang out, rest and have some more delicious, homemade food. Oh and so far the staff have been absolutely fabulous. This will be our regular stop when we travel this way for work or leisure. read more

Have been to Cousins many times over the years and have tried quite a few dishes. It's a great stop when passing through the gorge in either direction. It's an old fashioned sit down place with country fare and homestyle decore. You are greeted arlt the door by the sounds of farm animals...very cute and makes us laugh every time. Staff is warm and welcoming and we usually never have to wait to be seated. The convenience of Cousins can't be overstated. Hungry travelers will be well dlfed and leave with full bellies. Burgers are good, biscuits and gravy pretty standard, and their omelets are decent. The cinnamon rolls are the real star of the show and need to be shared. They are massive! We will continue to make Cousins a stop when passing through The Dalles. read more

We loved this place about 20 years ago - back then it was fun and the food was good. Finally made our way back but unfortunately it was disappointing. I ordered the country fried steak with a pancake, eggs over hard, and country potatoes. The pancake and eggs were ok. However the country fried steak was very disappointing. The breading was a bit overdone and didn't have a desirable flavor - it didn't stick to the steak so I wiped it off. The country gravy had a very flowery flavor so obviously they didn't make the sauce properly. It was inedible. The potatoes to were very starchy flavor. I am disappointed to say that I don't plan to go back, but if I ever do I would stick with just pancakes. read more

Friday night was a bit busy. So rather than wait for a table in the dining room, I opted for the self-seating at a small table in the "Saloon". I ordered the Stampede Burger with fries & tartar sauce. The burger would've been better cooked closer to medium with a little pink in the middle. Mine was fully "dead", and just wanting to veer into the tough side of cooked. But, it was still pretty darn tasty. Seemed like a solid 1/3 pound patty, with a good slice of cheese and enough mayo and barbecue sauce to necessitate extra napkins. Fries were perfect, and the tartar sauce had a nice hint of pickle to it. A tad expensive at $18, but I did quite like it. Staff all were super friendly, as has always been my experience there when I'm traveling through. Your mileage may vary, but I've never had a bad meal there yet. read more

You really can't spend time in Hood River, Oregon without at least one stop at Cousins. The food is good and the service is great. They tend to get a bit busy, especially on weekends so don't be adverse to enjoying your breakfast on the bar. The menu is the same and while you don't get all of the quirky of the dining room the train passes through on a regular basis. The biscuits are super soft and flaky and the gravy is good without being overly salty. The kitchen also knows how to cook an egg. Give them a try...it may just be one a regular stop. read more

The food is always consistent. Total comfort food! Biggest thing they need to work on, which has happened to us the last three times we were there, is waiting for a table. You give them your name and you sit around, even when the parking lot is practically empty. I guess they might not have enough staff, but when you've been driving for hours, you just want to sit at a table and have a glass of water and peruse the menu. I cannot say enough great things about this place! The first thing I noticed was how charming the decor was, and I loved the little train that chugged on a track by the ceiling. Our service was phenomenal (I think the waiter's name was Ky?) because he checked on us consistently and made friendly conversation. He told us that the hostess gave us the "best seat in the house" which was a booth next to the crackling fire. I have to agree! Our food was delicious and fillling; we didn't have room for dessert, so I got a cinnamon roll to-go. We also got something from the cute little gift shop. The only negative thing was the screaming sound effect that plays when you come in & out of the front door. I am thankful that didn't give me an episode. I saw other complaints about it, so maybe consider another sound or switching to jingle bells? Overall, I am super pleased with my experience here. First, the wait was longer than it should have been (for everyone), so I sat and watched the flies on the table next to me. I ordered the French dip with the canned clam chowder, and my husband ordered the Rueben sandwich with a salad. His sandwich was so dry my husband got it stuck in his throat and choked. We ordered takeout from Cousins Restaurant and it was absolutely delicious! The only thing we had to ask for was some utensils and napkins, but everything else was spot on. And of course, you can't leave Cousins without getting one of their famous cinnamon rolls--they're a must! read more

I ENJOYED my stay at this restaurant. I've been to a few hotels in the Mt Hood area and the food here is excellent. Imagine staying at Cracker Barrel hotel (I know that sounds strange) The seating area of the restaurant is very well decorated- it feels very very local and the ambiance is just right. There's an assortment of farm vehicles in and outside the restaurant and cafe. I had the pot roast for dinner and then strawberry waffle for breakfast - also good service and I thought the price was good as well. I stayed at the hotel overnight and I've been to a few places around Mt Hood area that whilst they were aurguable better - this place was also very good. The rooms were spacious and well furnished - also a very decent price as well. There are also TESLA super chargers located on premises as well. read more

I said no the sausage is just too much sage for my personal taste. She offered to have it remain without the sausage, I again declined as I had ate enough.
