Tim Wilson of Canyon Dave Tours...

There are many ways see the Grand Canyon, and many ways to tour it. Getting an opportunity to see the Grand Canyon with the knowledge and knowhow of Canyon Dave Tours. While there may be an actual Canyon Dave, "Canyon Dave" is as much a concept than just one person. Our guide Tim Wilson, just didn't talk about the big-ticket info you can get off of Wikipedia. Our group got a great tour that gave us not only the lowdown on all the Grand Canyon geology but gave us actual rocks to feel. It was a dynamic, detailed presentation that was given at the outdoor Mather Point Amphitheater overlooking the Canyon at the South Rim. Keep in mind that they do educational, full day van tours of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and do eco-tour for geology, wildlife, and heritage. I haven't been on these, but man, when I return to the Grand Canyon, I sure as hell am gonna!

Just finished a Grand Canyon day tour with Canyon Dave Tours, our guide was John. John arrived promptly for pick up this am in a passenger van. Our family of 5 was expanded with another couple. Right now, the park keeps tour groups at max 9 people, which makes it nice. John knew the area well and we learned a lot about geology (there is a $10 option to purchase example rocks and info sheet. My 9 y/o was excited) and the different rocks in canyon. Also learned about different plants and animals in the park and John was helpful to point them out. Our lunch was at a sit down restaurant in the park with our pick of the menu (naturally you would pay extra for alcohol). Snacks and water were provided and our kids were excited about that! This trip was pricey but nice option to sit back and let someone else do the driving. We learned other history about the park that we probably would have never acquired on our own. We will remember it forever!

Best tour guide, smart and funny! Full of amazing info! Must do this tour! Well worth the money! Great stories! What I like most about the tour is that we were taken to areas that were not heavily congested with people. I was able to enjoy the amazing view and the sounds of birds and wind without having to tolerate tons of people! We were taken to lunch at an Indian reservation and enjoyed delicious food. They should indicate that in their description of their tour! It's a really cool treat! We assumed that was a cold cut sandwich, not a hot meal! Thank you Keaton

She later told me she would have been fine with leaving to. Not to be completely negative the hosts of the tour were a friendly couple and readily answered any questions we had. The tour consist mainly of walking around town and stopping in front of the older buildings and telling us their history. One bit of constructive criticism here. The tour would be much more interesting if we would have actually gotten to go into these buildings. Also several of their "ghost hunter tools" appeared to be apps they downloaded and used their iPhone to utilize. Now I'm not a professional ghost hunter myself but I'm a little hesitant to believe a iPhone is a ghost hunting device. Your other home made ghost hunting devices with there flashing lights were more interesting. I think this tour in this town has a lot of potential but as it stands now it's just boring.

I was paying attention and most of the time was at the front of the pack. I tried every activity they suggested, and participated in the trivia. My boredom wasn't due to me not trying to have a good time, or not paying attention. I was excited about the tour. My efforts wained as the tour dragged on. And I noticed I wasn't the only one who looked bored. There were people who didn't participate, and there were people that would flat-out walk away while Dusty or T-Bonez were talking. Also funny that another reviewer complained that he couldn't imagine a worse tour and also found it boring... So I'm not the only weirdo out there that thought the tour could have been better. Dusty Rose would rather criticize her guests for not paying attention (which for me was not the case) than either: A. take the criticism to heart and thoughtfully evaluate if she should adjust her tour, or B. stick to her guns and clarify that their tour isn't for everyone, and make sure that her marketing materials do a better job conveying what the tour is like, so she can make sure that people know what they're getting into. Really I think two stars was generous. After seeing Dusty's passive-aggressive response to both me and the one-star reviewer, I thought about changing my review to one star, too. Really? Complaining about someone who decides to remove themselves from having a bad time? But then again, who cares? It's a Yelp review.

Destinations were the Mingus Mountains and Cottonwood. It was an all-day tour. We had great weather - not too hot and not too cool. Two Angry Ape jeeps transported part of our group. Owner Tom was one of the drivers. Word to the wise: 5 people do NOT fit comfortably in the Jeeps. It works well for 4 people, 3 plus driver. The 5th person is crammed in the middle of the back seat with zero legroom. Fortunately, we had enough other vehicles to redistribute people, so no one had to be that 5th person for long. I went on a Pink Jeep tour in Sedona a couple of years ago. That was a lot bumpier and scarier than this one. There certainly were bumpy parts to this tour, but none of them scared the heck out of me! A private Jeep in our group had trouble negotiating some of the bumpier areas, but the Angry Ape jeep drivers had no issues. Tom is fun and personable, with lots of stories to tell. He kept us laughing the whole trip. His skill as a driver is very obvious. His worker (unfortunately, I forgot his name) was also very skilled. My husband and I had a great time!
