Horrible experience. Save your money there is way better daycares & boarding facilities that are much more attentive. Trust me!

Update to my review: Maizy went into her first heat in February so she couldn't come that month and her package days would roll over. I didn't realize it was only for the one month and I had kept asking over and over how many days she had and never got an answer. Several times I got texts saying my dog was checked out and picked up when they had actually meant to check out a different dog and they wouldn't call me I had to text and call and leave voicemails before someone finally would tell me what happened. I used to work for a daycare and boarding facility I know dogs get dirty at daycare but there was one day in particular I asked if she could stay inside because it was raining and we had literally moved into a new apartment the night before, staff said sure no problem keeping her inside and when I picked her up she was covered in mud head to tail. Then the next time after that my aunt picked her up for me and tells me she was wet. When I noticed a $10 charge for a "rinse off" and asked what that was for I was informed it was for when they hosed down Maizy and sent her home went and smelly saying they were under the impression I didn't want her to get dirty..... mind you that was one day I asked for that. I had planned to board her here after I had my baby but when I was given a tour of the facility I couldn't be more disgusted. The putrid smell of filth when you walk in the front door slaps you, the kennel area is dark, they use black wire crates from petsmart to board your dogs in. Nothing lodge feeling about it. I did not end up boarding there. One day I went to pick her up and I could hear one of the staff members SCREAMING at a dog from my car and he was inside the building. I asked one of the other staff members who nova was when she informed me it was his dog. If he talks to his dog that way, how is he treating mine? They want you to think it's a nice clean happy facility here but it's not. It stinks, the staff doesn't listen or care one of the two, and the owner just likes to collect whatever fees she can think of that day. General disorganization. I am a groomer I didn't need to be charged $10 for a hose down and regardless before charging clients for things you should probably speak to them regarding that first. I was extremely disappointed to learn that due to recent policy change, they no longer board pets who are 10+. I've been boarding my pup here for well over 8 years and you could say I was a regular customer as well as having spent quite a considerable sum on their services. Please do not take your cat here. I can't speak for their dog facility but I just picked up my cat after 11 days away. After dropping him off I knew I would never take him back but I was leaving the next day and had no time to schedule another facility. Dirty, dark, run down room where the cats are maintained. Bad smells and cramped dirty "chalets". They didn't tell me until I checked out that he had escaped and hidden somewhere else on the property. His collar was lost and he had evidence of an earlier near his eye plus a recent open wound on his ear.then they had the guts to ask me for a tip when I checked out. read more

I don't use their services for anything other than CBD for my aging pooch. Typically I get the same thing every time and what's happened over the past 6 months is the costs of this stuff is going through the roof. 200mg for 40.00 to start, then double the dose to 400mg for 80.00 which wasn't bad as it's a stronger dose but now all they sell is the 120.00 bottle? I didn't even need to ask anything more about the potency Come on guys, weed shops are everywhere around here and it's 40 bucks every time. read more

She also took money from all of us and was NEVER in the yard playing with dogs she also can't tell half the dogs apart! Also there were and still are rats, mold and a lot of more stuff wrong with that business it Shouldn't be open at all until the all the building are redone! I am a former employee and I know what it looks like it's disgusting! The roof is about to cave in! none of us that worked for Her will be back we are going to a better location with better care for the dogs and all! This is our 3rd time having our German Shepherd stay at Canyon Pet Lodge. Stella is very active and enjoys making new friends there! Just picked her up from a 5 day stay and I love everything about this place. The care they provide, the staff is friendly and attentive, they post pictures throughout the stay so I can see how Stella is doing and provide a report card which includes how she ate, her demeanor, activities, etc. I know Stella is safe in their care and they provide peace of mind while my family is out of town. read more

We will only bring our dogs here from now on. From the moment I first spoke with Roncy and read their requirements and rules, I knew this would be a good place for our dogs. They make sure all the pets are healthy, the facilities are clean (as clean as they can be with a bunch of dogs), the staff is constantly moving from kennels to play areas supervising the dogs. I like that they take pictures and post them or send them to the owners with updates on how your pet is doing throughout the day. We left one of our dogs Saturday morning through Monday morning. She can be a little nervous around other dogs and certain people but she was comfortable with the staff and she played with many dogs and on the ride home she seemed happy and more confident. read more

We left our pup at Canyon Pet Lodge (aka: No Place Like Home Pet Resort) for an overnight stay. It was our first experience with them. Too bad we left feeling slighted... The facility was clean. Their outdoor play area had tarps to provide shade for the dogs and looked well maintained. The staff was friendly when we arrived. Our dog seemed healthy and happy to see us when we arrived for pick up. The problem I have is that there is NO NOTICE of there being a FEE FOR SUNDAY PICKUP on their WEBSITE. We informed the staff we would be picking our girl up on Sunday. We only knew to expect the fee because we saw the sign taped on the counter-top notifying us of the charge. "As of May 1st or 31st (I can't recall which it said...), there will be a $25 charge for Sunday pickup." I questioned the fee and the staff confirmed that "yes, there would be a fee." At this point, I'm stuck and had to continue with the boarding. If I had known, I would have made other arrangements OR I would have sucked it up and been OK with paying it. However, it was sprung on us at a time in our day's plans where it was too late to change. My husband picked our pup up on Sunday and spoke to the owner. He asked if we could have the fee waived this one time because we didn't know about it when we made reservations AND she only stayed one night. The owner declined our request. (I don't think he mentioned that there was nothing on the website. Maybe that would have changed the outcome. But truly, their fault, not ours.) When I decided to go with Canyon Pet Lodge it was because I wanted to give it a try. In a couple of months we'll be on vacation for 2 weeks and are planning on boarding her. I picked up my dog on Sunday everything seemed fine. The gal at the front desk told me my dogs feet were sore from being on the rocks that was in there outdoor lodging area. Before I brought him home my husband had to lift him and put our black lab, who weighs 82lbs in his kennel. I was told by them to use coconut oil or neosporin for his paws. His pads are black and you can see some of the pink that is under his pads where they have fallen off. My dog won't walk right now and the front feet are the only ones affected. I called my vet who saw him Thursday July 2nd and made an appointment for him. I will post what the vet says. I was also told by the rep at the front desk that they see this happens when dogs are not use to spending time on rocks. We take our dog the the river and we have some areas of rocks in our yard and never seen our dog like this before. I will go back to using sumner lodging as it is a part of sumner veterinary hospital. Update my dogs front paws have to be bandaged up, he is going to have to wear a cone, take antibiotics, and pain medicine. The big pad on one of his paws there is a flap of where the pad is coming off. I will never take him to this facility ever again. They told me to use coconut oil or neosporin, the vet said it wouldn't work because his paws were so messed up. read more

I have a 12 year old German Shepherd. My dog has stayed at Canyon Pet Lodge about 5 times in the last 10 years. No problems until now. When I picked her up (Saturday) I was told she had broken out of her crate the first night. She was with them 3 nights. I could tell by her beat up nose that this was true. I asked why she had been crated. She is a rescue and does not do crates. I was told it was a new employee who had made the mistake. The next day I noticed colored drainage from her nose and labored breathing, also the skin between her toes was torn up. The toes I attributed to the breaking out of the crate. It is hard on an old dog to perform such feats. I took her to the vet on Monday (today). Fever, swollen glands, infected feet, labored breathing.....AND a broken tooth! A fresh break according to the vet. Yes, crates are hard to get out of. I called the manager, who told me to call the owner. I left a message. She called me back in about a half an hour. She had answers for everything. It was clear she had been briefed and done her homework. This time I was NOT told the new employee made a mistake, but that my dog had ALWAYS been crated during her stays and that there were no notes not to crate. I guess no one asked. I did not know that dogs were crated at night. I would have objected. It was very odd that the owner knew when my dog had had her last dental work done, just under 9 months ago. It bothered me. I called the owner again and asked her how she knew this. Come to find out, before she called me back she called my vet to find out when my dog's last dental exam was. My vet said she also questioned what my dog had been seen for. That was weird. Clearly a CYA move. Yes, I take care of my dog and her teeth. She tried to tell me my dog could have broken her tooth chewing on something before she came there. I informed her I have an old dog, she doesn't chew on anything anymore and when she did it was only garden hoses. I have never given her bones. I am VERY concerned about my dog. When she had her teeth cleaned and pulled less than a year ago I had hoped it would be the last time she would be anesthetized. Right now she is too ill and is on anti-biotics and pain killers. Tomorrow I will get the results of her blood work. I am worried about my dog. I would have given a 3 star review, if the owner hadn't stiff armed me, and worked with me on this issue. But calling and questioning my vet before she even returned my call seemed kind of creepy and disturbing. If the owner has a change of heart and we can work something out, I will add this to the review. But as for now this is it. UPDATE 7/25/15 The BEST News: My dog has successfully had her tooth removed and is recovering and doing well. The $99 was refunded to my credit card for boarding and I wasn't charged for crate destruction. My vet bill was just under $1000. read more

We had a bad experience. Wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. We boarded our border collie for a few days and we came to pick him up with his pads on his paws all torn up and almost bleeding, he walked up to us limping. Our dog is is like our baby so we were upset he is hurt and they didn't do anything about it, not even offer a discount for him staying there. We will never take our pup there again. read more

I left my kitten (6 months old) here for 5 days when I left town. She's extremely shy & doesn't like meeting new people, so I was pretty hesitant to leave her but had no other options. She stayed in her cage pretty much her entire stay but when I called in to check on her (yes, I'm that person) they gave me an update on how she was doing & said they were going to continue working with her to warm up to them. She eventually warmed up the very last day & got some good quality time with one of the workers. When I picked her up, she seemed just fine. She's now roaming around the house & is back to her normal, rambunctious self. I'll definitely use them again if I have to leave town for a long period of time. The best and only place we bring our labradoodle. Nellie has been coming here since we brought her home, she LOVES Camp Bark and is so excited when we drive up. The staff is attentive and affectionate and you can tell they really love the dogs that come here. We love the convenience of the website where we can book reservations and we get updates and photos ("a pawgress report" how stinkin cute?!) after her stays. She had her first overnight boarding recently and it was wonderful to read who she played with, what she did and how she coped being away from home. We were apprehensive about leaving our dogs because they have never been boarded before. But, our vet recommended this place and we knew a couple people who use Canyon Pet Lodge and so we decided to give them a try. Our two pups were there for 7 days. Our dogs seemed to have a great time. Because after we got them home they were passed out on the couch and floor. I only have a couple things I am not happy about. 1) We were quoted a price prior to dropping our dogs off. When we went to pick them up we were given a different price, $120 more to be exact. We were charged for things that we weren't told about prior to their stay. Of course they took these off. But, still we were having to pay more than what we were initially told which was frustrating and absurd. We ended up having to pay $100 dollars more than what we were first told. 2) They told us to check their site daily because they post pictures on a daily basis. That wasn't true. Out of the 7 days there, this place only posted pictures twice. For a first time dog parent leaving their pets at a unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people, this also was concerning and frustrating. The biggest issue we have is that we were mislead with how much it was going to be. To pay almost $600 in the end is ridiculous when you were quoted $450. Don't know if we will be going back because of this mishap. read more

We have boarded in MANY places for our two golden retriever pups, especially being a military family- we've boarded at places in Spokane, North Tacoma, on base JBLM, and now in Puyallup (our current home). Our dogs have been guests at five different dog daycares but none has been as great as Canyon Pet Lodge for dog daycare and boarding. This is why: 1) Exceptionally affordable prices compared to surrounding dog daycares and boarding places (many discounts for military, multiple pets, etc.) 2) They seperate small dogs/puppies from the big dogs so no one gets run over or hurt. 3)Constant supervision and playtime including nature walks, ball time, or whatever special activity your dog enjoys. 4) You get a report card of how your dog did at daycare when you pick them up. 5) They don't charge you extra to feed your puppy if you want them feed. 6)The gals that work there frequently get to know the habits and regular activity of your dog quite well. They called me immediately when my puppy was having an allergic reaction to the lyme vaccine so he could get taken care of. 7)They can also pick-up and drop-off your dog if needed. They have two vehicles to drive the dogs around. 8)Their grooming prices are very affordable too! The de-shedding treatment is around $30 there, compared to PetSmart where they charge $80+. 9)It's on 5+ outdoor acres during most of the year, except during the rainy season they keep them in the indoor yards. Sometimes they dress up the little dogs with sweaters too! 9) When the dogs get "breaks" they can have lunch or receive an antler to chew on, or a stuffed Kong treat. No extra charge! NEW OWNERS! New owners just purchased this business around March this year, so they are trying very hard to get the place pulled together. They've redone the roofs, put down wood shavings for the pups, and working on sprucing up the place. Take a chance, and give this place a try. Our plans fell through last minute for our Britney Spaniel puppy to spend a weekend with a friend while we were out of town. We were hesitant to board her at a place where she would be locked alone most of the day because she was only 5 1/2 months and this was our first time leaving her. Her breed is very active and social so depriving her of both those things would make her anxious and potentially make her afraid of all boarding in the future should we need to use it. We went with Canyon Lodge instead. She had a great time playing with other dogs her size most of each day along with getting cuddle time with staff. I know that sending her here really made the weekend so much easier for her. She adjusted super well coming back home with no issues. The young man who I saw caring for her at pickup and drop off was so kind and you could tell our puppy loved him when she went to say goodbye to him at pickup. Thank you Canyon Lodge! read more

First off let me say that it took a lot for me to leave my pup and a boarding kennel, he's my boy and I wont let just anybody watch after him. My lab is extremely well trained but also a very high energy dog so he can be alot to handle even for a season dog handler. I was a tad weary of the ability of the staff to handle a high energy hunting dog like mine. My worries were put to rest as soon as I came to pick him up. Not only could they handle him, they wanted him back ASAP. He came back to me in the same shape as I left him ( no injuries, sicknesses or parasites ). I feel that they treated him as if he was their own pup. The facility is very clean and dog friendly. They don't keep the pups kenneled up for more than they have to ( nights ) . The staff is very friendly and they are definitely "dog people". Price: very reasonable. I will be using CPL again in the future and Highly recommend them to anyone in the Puyallup/Tacoma area. read more

My husband and I travelled with our special-needs 2 yr old pit/boxer mix to visit our grandchildren this Christmas. Our girl has severe arthritis, takes daily meds and is not usually friendly with strange dogs or men. As you can imagine we were very worried about boarding her anywhere.. coming from a large metro area with real pet resorts, Canyon's relatively simple facility was as different from our home as could be. Ultimately it was an ideal choice. Here's why we'll ONLY use Canyon when we go back: 1) Staff is mostly female. For us this is huge. And they love the dogs!! 2) She developed friendships with the staff quickly. This told us they talked to her and interacted at her comfort level. 3) She ate. She was comfortable and felt safe. Canyon did have some extras but did not push. They were open for pick-up at 6:30am the day we left, but would charge if we wanted to get her on the holiday. So what? I am a very over protective dog mom, and the thought of leaving my dog with strangers terrifies me. My husband and I had planned a vacation to Jamaica, and needed to find a boarding facility we could trust. After visiting Canyon Pet Lodge, we got good vibes. The staff was friendly, it was clean, and the rates were very reasonable. Also, I loved how the dogs were not caged all day, and got to socialize with the other animals. Since we booked way ahead of time, we decided to take advantage of the free daycare that's used to get your dog familiar with the place. No problems there. My dog gets a little separation anxiety, but I really think he enjoyed the place. A month or so later, a family emergency came up, and we needed to board our dog right away (for about 5 days). Thankfully, they had an opening available and we were able to take our dog in the same day. When we arrived, I gave them instructions for how much food he eats per day (1 cup dry and 1/2 cup wet per day - broken up into 2 meals). Although I was nervous, I felt that my dog was in good hands. When we got back home, I picked my dog up and took him home. Once I got home I discovered that my he was thinner, and quite lethargic considering he's a very hyperactive breed. I thought this could have been a normal part of having been boarded. So I didn't worry too much. After we settled in, I began putting away the items that were brought back (like his blanket), and noticed that they sent him home with way too much wet food. Immediately, I knew he had been underfed. I immediately drove back to Canyon Pet Lodge to figure out why he was sent back with so much food. It turns out, although the woman at the desk wrote down his feeding instructions correctly, the women who fed him misinterpreted the instructions, and instead of giving him 1/2 cup of wet food per day, she was giving him less than a tablespoon. I was so upset and felt like I had let my dog down by leaving him there. My husband decided to pay them a visit later that day because he was upset as well after hearing the news. They apologized and offered us 3 free nights for our dogs next stay (our vacation). I did feel hesitant about sending him back, but in my heart, I knew it really was an honest mistake. I felt that they had built a great establishment and genuinely cared about the animals. When we brought our dog back the next time, they actually had food instruction cards where they check the box for how much your pet eats and how many times per day. That way there was no room for mistake. I was very impressed with that change! During our vacation, we were able to log on to Facebook and view pics posted of our dog playing. What a great thing to provide to the owners. My dog always looks happy in the photos. Thankfully we came home to a happy, healthy, energetic dog. Even though my first experience wasn't the greatest, I do believe that it was an honest mistake, that was handled properly by the staff. I can without a doubt recommend Canyon Pet Lodge. We found this place YEARS ago before they changed the name (and the owners?) and we will continue to board our pets here. The online reservation process is a little confusing, but I figured it out. They are very thorough when they ask about your pet's particulars (feeding schedule, meds, preferences, etc) and I appreciate that. They were also very accommodating when I needed a friend to drop off my dog and all of her stuff (pillow, toy, etc). When I picked her up today, she was clean, and seemed very happy... she even went up to the two ladies and let them pet her, which I believe means that they treated her very well, and she trusts them. I prefer bringing my dogs here over a place where they spend all day in a kennel, and I think she liked it too! I would definitely recommend this place to my friends. And regarding the sore feet... yeah, they run around on gravel, which I understand because otherwise it would be super muddy with all those dogs running around outside all day. My pup's paws are a little red, but she doesn't seem to have any problems. They took good care of her while we were out of town! read more

Roca is our St Bernard and at 7 had never stayed at a boarder. We chose Canyon Pet Lodge because they have rooms with 4 ft walls instead of the standard kennel. This was was important because Roca is very fearful of closed crates of any size. She was mistreated in her early years and pretty skittish. Roca knew she was in a good place and started wagging her tail as soon as she started meeting the staff at Canyon. Her trial stay ( what an awesome idea) went great and she hopped out of the car to greet everyone when we returned for her longer stay. Dropped off my dog and was immediately bombarded with questions suggesting extras for my pup... really I just needed a place for my dog to stay while we had a bunch of people over for my son's birthday party. I came back to get my dog and got an extra half day charged my wife and I were not informed about. Was told that my dog is very scared and timid, and that she won't make a good hunting dog. I can't say I like being told how my dog is going to be based off a less than 24hr observation with her first stay at a kennel with that many other dogs around. When I picked up my dog she seemed a little scared, jumping right into my truck (which she has been trained to wait until told to get in) and was covered in dirt, granted it had been sprinkling she had dirt caked on her legs again not horrible but still there. I also have to take my truck and shampoo the seats due to the amount of dirt on my dog. I have to say I will think twice before bringing my dog back here. The staff was also very bland, and not so friendly. Plus: Military discount. I would recommend this place if there weren't spots available elsewhere. It did appear very secure, which is a big plus and kept me from giving a 2 star review. After speaking with the manager and her telling me that they had to deflea their arena after they found my dog had fleas and I was lucky they didn't charge me for that I about lost my mind. Why didn't you put her in a kennel that's not in a large area? Props to sticking to your guns on the dogs get dirty here ideal. But you lost a customer and hopefully a few more for this review. Thanks for the half day refund, and the free night we won't be using. Don't drop your dog off and pick them up on a Sunday it's an automatic half day charge because they don't open until 1500... read more

Canyon Pet Lodge has been a blessing to our dogs and our family. We have 2, young, highly energetic hunting dogs. One of which suffers from anxiety and hyperarousal. We cannot excersize these dogs enough! I was looking into day care for additional excersize, mind stimulation and socialization as well as a place that the dogs could be boarded, if needed, where they were not put in kennels the entire time. Canyon Pet Lodge has met and exceeded all our hopes and requirements. The dogs love Camp Bark so much that even though I am no longer working still take them 3 days a week. The "Rangers" are awesome and seem to really care about all the animals. One of the things that I really liked was that when I was checking into doggie day care facilities Canyon Pet Lodge was the only one, out if the 4 that I called, that said we could come for a tour any time. No appt needed. The others only gave tours on specific days and times. I also like that they have specific vaccination requirements and follow up on them as they expire. read more
