Shaggy Shack Pet Resort returned my severely arthritic, disabled dog to me smelling of pee, a sticky underbelly from laying in her pee, raw spots on her elbows, an elbow with dried blood, inflammation and swelling of both her elbows so severe that it shook with each step my dog would take, and pee on her food container. I put my dog into boarding August 17-21, 2023 with Shaggy Shack; Thursday afternoon to Monday morning. My dog has a muscle dystrophy disorder that effects anywhere in her body that has collagen. At less than 2 years old, she has severe arthritis in her elbows. I let Shaggy Shack know of her disorder prior to leaving her with them. I even wrote a note and taped it to her food container. I spoke with 2 workers, 1 manager, and then finally the owner. None of the stories matched with the others. When I spoke with Tonya, the owner, I explained how I received my dog and that her inflammation could only be that severe if she was not given her medication. Tonya said "the girls could have missed some medications, we're not perfect." I asked for a refund, to which she said "we won't be administering a refund because that would be admitting we did something wrong." My dog was returned to me with dried blood and sticky from pee, how is that right? I have no answers I'm satisfied with, only multiple stories of what may or may not have happened to my disabled dog. At this point, I paid to have her be grossly neglected. Tonya provided a med sheet 4 days later to try to claim they gave my dog her medication, even though my hydrotherapist (who I had look over my dog for other injuries) agreed her condition could've only been that bad if she had not received her medication. Tonya shifted the blame to me, saying "You chose to bring her to a highly stimulated setting instead of staying home with your handicapped pup." I trusted Shaggy Shack to care for my dog as if she were your own, as the website claims the business would do. I will not make that error again and suggest others not to as well. This place is awesome. We have only been able to board once and daycare once or twice. Its a bit of a drive for us, especially when we have a location on base we can drop off. I would highly recommend though. I like our home spot, but his one has something very special about it. Bernard loves playing with dogs, but when its raining at our normal spot he ends up sitting inside with some outside time and not a lot of dog socialization... or at least that is my guess. When he comes home on rainy days he is not all that tired. In fact he seems like he just hung around all day instead of playing. The first time we took him to Shaggy Shack it was raining and I thought he was going to come home not tired at all. Oh man was I wrong. He was knocked out and it was in a way that leads me to believe not only does he get to play with dogs, but he has moments of thinky time or play time with humans. I cant say for sure, but I love how he comes back those days. Clearly wore out from a day of fun. I really like this place but unfortunately its a bit of a drive to do daycare daily especially when we have an on base option right next to my wife's work. I will say though they are definitely going to be our go to for boarding. The one major downside to our normal spot is there are no options for drop off pick up on Sundays. A lot of our trip or time where we need to board is Just saturday evening. This gives us the opportunity to board and pick up when we return and not have to board an extra night. In addition we had a last minute boarding need when I was too lazy to get boarding scheduled at our normal spot and it worked out perfectly. I highly recommend this place. Its not on base so anyone can use. The place is huge. Staff knowledgable and friendly and overall I have nothing but positives about here. I wish their location was closer, but thats not a negative, just a desire to make my life easier. read more

Shaggy Shack and the staff are truly amazing. The moment I arrived here I got great vibes. You can tell they all genuinely love animals. We have never boarded our animals but we felt so comfortable here. We had our dog Ollie boarded for the first time at the end of July 2021 & he was so well cared for. He made new friends & Shaggy Shack even posted pics/video while Ollie was in their care. We are boarding him again before Summer ends & will continue to do so for any future travel. My husband and I absolutely love shaggy shack! More importantly our dog does! We have a 15 month old SUPER high energy pure bred border collie (Huey), meaning he NEEDS to get that energy out or he can get frustrated. Huey stays at Shaggy shack probably once every month or two from 2 - 15 days usually, probably has stayed there at least 5 times now. Everytime we get him back he is totally pooped! (Which we absolutely love). When we drop him off he is so excited he can't stand it! He loves the staff and they clearly love him because they are excited there him too! It's so sweet. We love that they love our pup, it makes us feel great about being apart. Lastly, as we have a long haired hard playing dog, we get him groomed before we pick him up. Not only are they always on time, they do an EXCELLENT job. He smells great, his long fur is so glossy and soft, and their hygiene trims are so great! We just can't say enough good things about this place. We highly recommend! Of course it's hard of your pup has separation anxiety and what not, but for outgoing people loving dogs, it's paradise! First, before I get into some of the concerns I have, let me tell you that this place WILL take care of your dog. They are very nice, and are all 'dog-people'. The facility is also very nice, well-run (for the most part), and bonus, our vet is right across the street. That being said... I took our puppy in on Saturday morning (2/25) at 10am to be boarded overnight. I filled out paperwork indicating that my 17-week old puppy eats (3) times per day, and they had spaces on their paperwork for times. I wrote in 7am, 12pm, and 5pm for her feeding times. Dropping her off at 10am, she was to be fed again at 12pm, and then again at 5pm - then, finally at 7am the next morning prior to me picking her up at 10am. I also asked about grooming, and indicated that I'd like to have her groomed prior to picking her up Sunday morning. There were ZERO questions asked, concerns raised, etc. when I gave my paperwork back and my puppy was taken back. When I arrived at 10am on Sunday morning to pick up my pup, she was soaking wet and so muddy they had to wipe her down before I could even take her. In addition to that, they gave me her things back and there were TWO bags of her food that had not been given to her! So, instead of eating at 12pm - her lunch was skipped and she was fed dinner at 5pm. They also did not feed her at 7am the next morning, so had zero breakfast. I expressed my concern prior to paying, and also called after I had left. They advised me that they didn't see that I had circled, "Y" for yes to grooming and that the person taking care of the dogs was new so, she didn't look at the paperwork with the feeding schedule close enough and that next time I need to specifically remind them to do both of these things - then, offered to have me come back on Monday to have her groomed...which I'd have to pay for. This is completely unacceptable in my opinion, and very poor customer service. My puppy was so dirty, that I couldn't even bring her home and had to make an appointment at PetSmart on my way back from this kennel to have her groomed - meaning, she didn't get to eat until after 2pm!! Additionally, PetSmart charges HALF of what this place does for grooming and does a great job. All-in-all, I do trust these people with my dog, and something that MAY convince me to bring her back should I need a board next time is that it's right across the street from my vet...but, honestly I was pretty pissed off that my dog didn't get to eat lunch or breakfast the next day - and, I had to make an additional stop to get her groomed. Most groomers are closed during the quarantine and my dog was in desperate need of grooming. I'm so glad I came across this place. They were so thoughtful and so flexible with my online class schedule. They were able to accommodate my dog with a shampoo, haircut, nail trim, and shots. I'm so thankful for Shaggy Shack Pet Resort. I love love love Shaggy Shack! Tonya the new owner has definitely made effort to redefine the day care and boarding standards. Shaggy Shack has a clean and friendly environment. They make sure the play area is equipped with supervisors to control the excitement level of the dogs so things dont get out of control. For the dogs that play too "ruff" they are placed in a separate area so they can enjoy the day without having to be on timeout. Shaggy Shack offers both indoor and outdoor areas so no matter what the weather, there is always a place for your pooch! I highly recommend Shaggy Shack services! read more

Kennel Cough! I'm disappointed that the management did not inform me that they had kennel cough, recently when I dropped my lab, Luna, off for a stay. Where I could make an informed decision to board or not. I took Luna to the vet and they confirmed Kennel cough, which is highly contagious. I called back like I was asked too by staff, if Luna has kennel cough, so they could do the bleach cleaning again. That was when they told me the dog next to Luna had kennel cough. My vet bills are now around $180 and the manager says that's the price of owning a dog. I'm paraphrasing she also used analogy of a child going to public school, how the school doesn't notify you when there's an outbreak of a virus, not true, schools do notify parents. I recently started taking my puppy Sadie to Shaggy Shack & she absolutely loves it! She gets so excited when we turn down their gravel road! I trust everyone that works there & Sadie is safe & happy. I had great expectations for place however my experience was quite the contrary, first one of my dogs has cancer so we are very careful with her surroundings to keep them clean and make her comfortable while she still with us. After we picked her the groomer told us she had a tick we had to spend more money to finally be convince she was tick free. be assured she was tick, flea or any other thing related to dogs free because of her cancer on the whole bottom of her stomach we try to keep her as happy. You can bet we will not be taking her near that place as I seem some reviews agree that place looks dirty and I'm not even gonna Go into details about the other dog we took along with her. I spend over 100 dollars here only to be treated like I was wrong in bringing back an item that was missing pieces. But when you get a phone call saying your bulldog was left in the 90 degree heat for over an hour and went into heat stroke. $450 in vet bills later, and my dog almost died. We board our two large dogs at the shaggy shack because it's affordable, close to home, and they offer multi-dog and firefighter discounts! Our pooches always come home smelly (I don't get the bath before they leave, but it is offered), happy, and exhausted from playing with all their Shaggy Shack friends. We've boarded there three times in the last year- for a week on two occasions- and have never had any problems or surprise charges like we've had happen elsewhere. Great place to board. A friend has taken her dog to Shaggy Shack for some time. She was informed today that her dog will not be allowed to return. The reason? He is old, blind & requires too much care! Sorry lady but that's you're job! None of your employees have a problem or complaint about him or his needing a little extra help. Shaggy Shack is our Go-To kennel. Their fees are competitive with other good kennels, but there is no extra charges for play time. We use to take our dogs to Northwind in Olympia, which is a very nice place. However, there are additional fees for extra playtime, etc. At Shaggy Shack we don't feel shamed into getting extras for our dogs as everything is included. The staff is very nice, and they also provide grooming services. read more

This place is a rip off! We brought our two dogs to spend one night here. I couldn't believe the "extra" fees that were added! We were charged over $140.00 just for one night! I took my two dogs here for the first time. I packed enough dry and wet food for their stay. When I picked them up on Monday, I was told that they ran out of food and so they use their food. First of all. I know exactly how much my dogs eat. I even gave extra wet and dry food, wrote how much to feed them and had the cup in the bag. My dogs were over fed and then given different food from what they're use to. When they bring my dogs out, the girl informs me that my 9 month old Boston has been having diarrhea that morning. So I get handed a dog with diarrhea all over her backside. It's on my other dog and then all over in the create. The girl tells me if it continues I might want to call the Vet. Really? You hand me my dog with pooh all over her? You couldn't have at least washed her off! I had to wash both dogs, clean the crate and my Boston had diarrhea all day and throughout the night. I couldn't get her into the Vet until the next day. At the Vet she recieved fluids with B12, was sent home with antibiotics, prebiotics and has been on a rice and chicken diet since Monday. That cost me $187.37. Add that to the $261.00 for their boarding. Not happy. Won't recommend this place. I even tried sending a email yesterday and no response. Bad decision on our part to house our dogs there. read more

First dog visit was good our dogs only spent a day or two there. Everything was fine. However we decided to take a week and a half trip. Our dog had a minor surgery the day before and was on pain medication. When we got back we noticed that they only gave her a couple of her meds she was there for 10 days. And also her eye medication was never opened. a brand new bottle was still sealed. She can go blind will out the medication. Our 9 month old puppy I noticed was super skinny and head shy! Did they hit him on the head or something? I know when dogs go to boarding places that they can lose weight because of the activity. However a 9 month old puppy with nothing to lose and their food container looked as if they just didn't feed him very much... he's a mastiff puppy. We gave them enough to maybe have a few cups over what they needed not over half a container .We called and talked to the manager who seems upset with what had happened, but did nothing to make it right. Never called us back with any feedback from their meeting. I can't trust to leave my dogs somewhere if they cant even follow simple feeding protocol. I should have left this review waaaay sooner, but forgot until I just made reservations to bring our dogs back for the thanksgiving holidays. We have a standard poodle and a golden retriever who stayed here for 10 weeks this summer while we traveled. When our standard got an eye infection in the second week we were gone, the shaggy shack staff called us immediately, took her to our vet at our request, and took great care of her while she healed. Our golden got in the best shape ever because if the amazing play spaces available here. The staff knew our dogs' personalities so well; everything they said about the dogs sounded exactly like who we know our doggies to be. Leaving our dogs for that length of time was tough, but knowing they were are such a fabulous place made missing them tolerable. We are excited for the dogs to go back and see their human buddies at their resort away from home at thanksgiving! You will feel great knowing that your dogs are at such a safe, clean, living place while you're away from them! We will never use any of the kennels we've used in the past after finding this dream place for our furry family members. read more

I wouldn't recommend making a drive here if you're only going for pet supplies. Me and my husband went hoping to get a pet gate and a dog crate for our dog after seeing so many posts of pet supplies on Facebook Marketplace. We pulled up and there was nobody in sight to even ask where to go for the supplies and when a lady finally stepped out from behind the building, she never even acknowledged we were there until I approached her and asked her where the pet supplies were. She pointed to a building and said "it's over there" instead of directly showing us where to go. We went in to a little room where they had several items in there but nothing was clearly marked for prices. Nobody was even in the store so we had no idea where to even go and pay for the items we chose. We stood around for about 10 minutes waiting and then finally we gave up and drove off. If you're going to advertise you have pet supplies, be more clear of where to locate them and make it a lot easier on people who literally drove 37 minutes to get there. We were very excited to find a pet resort that after reading reviews everyone praised very high. We signed a permission slip if anything went wrong to contact us and take him to the vet. We pick him up, I look at him knowing something is not right. As we drove home I looked at his eye and green puss coming out of it including his eye beat red. Took him directly to the our vet and luckily nothing was in it but the vet verified that should of been caught by the employees at the resort. I called and talked to Tonya, the owner, she stated she knew nothing about it and with 40 animals at one time to take care of they do not do thorough checks unless it is obvious. It was very obvious, you would of had to totally ignored him to not notice. A vet bill later I would never recommend them, they apparently house too many animals with too little staff. read more

We recently boarded both of our large dogs at Shaggy Shack Pet Resort for a week while we were on vacation. When I called to check on the dogs a few days into their stay, they informed me my dogs had "attacked" another dog, even though we were told no one saw it happen. We just picked up our dogs and noticed one of our dogs has injuries as well. Two employees told my husband when he picked up our dogs that no one saw the "attack" happen. However, we were charged an additional $5 a day fee per dog because our dogs were deemed "aggressive." We were not told about this additional fee. When we called to question this additional charge, their story changed, and we were told someone witnessed our dogs start the fight. In addition, our injured dog was not provided vet care as the other dog was, and we were not informed of our dog's injury. We will be finding another boarding place for our beloved dogs. read more
