Not sure why this place has only 3 stars, but we ordered from here today and food was so good! I got shrimp tacos and yellowtails ceviche. Now, if I do my due diligent and read the description I would've known that their shrimp tacos is grilled on plancha with also grilled caramelized cheese over the blue corn tortilla. I was more in the mood for a cleaner and fresher shrimp tacos, the normal kinds with just cabbage and pico de gallos inside the tacos because think Capa's version is about 800 calories more than the one I had in mind . But it was delicious though. My only complaint is their red sauce or red salsa, it looks fire but it was NOT spicy at all.. wth. But, the main star is the yellowtail ceviche. It's marinated in coconut milk, which they called coconut leche de Tigre (coconut tiger milk?! lol). It also has mango and lots of lime, cilantro and onion and all that other good stuff that makes such a great ceviche. This was sooooo good and their chunky pieces of yellowtail were so big! This was a hit! Lastly the tortillas chips they gave with it has such a refreshing lime and very light chili salt on it, and the chip is thin and so crisp, it was so good! We tried out last night at the rodeo Easter roundup. It was good! The kids loved the quesadilla and carnitas tacos. And of course the glass sodas. My husband and I got the birria burrito and it was good but I think it needs some kind of crunch. Definitely a bit of mushiness between the beans and salas and soft smoked beef. Churro waffle was also a huge hit. Definitely will be back. The flavors were there! read more

Decent tacos for a food stall in a food hall. Went on a Saturday around 12 and food came out in under 10m. 2 tacos for around $11.50 is pretty average nowadays and especially not bad for a food hall I got the sweet potato tacos. It comes on blue corn tortillas and your choice of mild, medium or hot salsa. I got the mild salsa verde which was tasty and cut through the heaviness of the taco. I wish the sweet potato was cubed rather than smashed because it was very heavy. There was also a bit too much cheese for my liking and/or it could've been melted more but it did add good flavor. I probably would've enjoyed it more if i was a bit hungrier but not a bad meal at all! read more

Casual atmosphere with a ton of shared indoor and outdoor seating. They've got a brisket burrito, which I had to try! If you want all the fixings, you're going to have to add-on "mission style" for more money (guac, rice, beans, pico de gallo). I honestly don't know why this place is sitting at 3 stars because everything we tried was DELICIOUS. I would go back just for their Birria burrito and the coconut shrimp ceviche. Both were packed with flavor and so satisfying. The location is super cute too. It sits in a little lifestyle center that's fun to stroll around and makes the whole experience feel extra cozy. Capas also just rolled out a new seasonal menu and there are so many great options to choose from. What I loved most is that they don't skimp. The tacos are LOADED with toppings and meat, exactly how they should be. I'm honestly tired of other taco spots in OC serving "cute" tiny tacos with barely anything inside. Capas goes all out and delivers big flavor every time. Went on a weekday and it was pretty mellow and quick service - we got the food rather quickly. If you want a little lightweight taco, this might not be for you... but honestly, you'd be missing out. I'll definitely be back! read more

We visited the new Rodeo River Street in San Juan Capistrano and we tried a couple different places. This was our favorite of all the places we tried. Pros: the tacos come with a great portion of meat, the guacamole was very good and my kids loved the purple tortilla chips, and the smoked brisket, carnitas and birria meats were tasty Cons: the salsas were a bit of a let down (they missed the mark on heat - they actually tasted kind of sweet), the birria tacos didn't come with a consume so that was a let down, the drink options are pretty limited (I couldn't find any restaurant in the strip mall with plain old unsweetened iced tea) The staff were nice (it was opening weekend so they were very busy). The whole river walk is walk up food options but you can find lots of seating outside which is nice. read more

I love ceviche and tacos. Unfortunately, this spot doesn't quite hit the mark and taste authentic. I love seeing a new food hall open in South OC (it looks like the same people behind Rodeo 39; the parking to get here is nuts so just pay to avoid the madness or long walk). You order at the counter and get texted when it's ready. There are plenty of seats indoors and outdoors (at least on a Friday lunchtime). I got the yellowtail ceviche where you get plenty of chips. The fish is fine. I understand it's leche de tigre (which is a bit less spicy than typical ceviches), but it's really missing on the heat and sour citrus flavor you expect. If those 2 components were amped up, this would be a better dish. I also got the carnitas tacos with melted cheese which were fine. I got the medium salsa which tasted more like a BBQ or ketchup sauce; it was a bit too sweet and could have used more Mexican flavors like peppers and cilantro. A few tweaks to amp up the flavors and heat would improve the dishes and make it taste more autentico. read more

I thought this place was pretty good. We ordered a cheese quesadilla for our kids, the burnt tips burrito, and comote y queso (potatoes piled with guacamole and cheese), and chips with guacamole. The burrito seemed like a black bean wrap. Not much meat at all and pretty small. I overheard someone else who ordered this telling the cashier they were given the wrong thing. I think the name and description is misleading, but what it was tasted good. The comote y queso was also good, though some potatoes were cooked to perfection while others were maybe undercooked. But overall, the flavor was good and portion was filling. The cheese quesadilla was probably the best thing, surprisingly. Came out hot and had good flavor. Sorry, but it seems you have two pretty serious hurdles.. You are buried within the River Street Market and have to pay for parking. Secondly, your place is tinny, and you don't really have a serious dinning area other than park benches, and this was a major buzzkill. Before I start, I want to preface how much I loved Capas and regularly visited. The staff were always kind and attentive, and the food always incredible. Until today, I would have given this spot 5 stars. Unfortunately, I am faced to write this review and rate this spot 2 stars only due to the staff and quality of food, or else I would have given this 0 stars. We were informed on this afternoon's visit that the menu was recently revamped and many items were either permanently discontinued or changed. Most, if not, all items we previously ordered were discontinued. The most disappointing of all, the removal of the ahi tuna ceviche. In all honesty, it was the star of the show and the main reason we continued to visit Capas. It was arguably the best tuna ceviche we have ever tried and we constantly visited Capas for this. This was a terrible mistake to remove the ahi tuna as we we were not even able to order it in taco or burrito form. I do not foresee us returning to Capas due to the menu changes. We understand restaurants undergo many changes to their menus, and the reasoning behind this decision is unknown. Some for the better, some for the worse. I fear, this time, it was for the worse. Thank you for all the great visits, Capas. We will return if the menu is restored to its previous items. read more

So far this is by far the best place in River Street. The birria tacos were juicy and delicious. The shrimp tacos were fabulous. The beans and rice were different but extremely tasty. And the cornbread square things (not sure of the exact name) were phenomenal. Everything I've had there has been delicious, I highly recommend this place. There is limited seating inside, split among other restaurants but there is ample seating outside. It's a fun place to eat and hand out! read more

We have been to Capas several times, usually at lunchtime. Most recently we've gone for a quick dinner and I have to say that there's a qualitative difference between their lunch and dinner preparations. It seems like by the end of the day (6:00 dinner) the workers are tired and it shows in how they prepare their food, in particular the brisket ends burritos. One time they were greasy and the other there was some significant pieces of fat in the burrito. Additionally, the young ladies that were working both times we went at dinner were about as warm as day-old tea. They weren't interested in talking about the menu and when we went back to wait for our order (they're supposed to text us when it's done) apparently one of them mumbled that our orders were ready. She chuckled to her friend and walked away with another order. I didn't hear what had been said and asked her friend if she had been talking to me and that's when I found out our burritos were ready. The texting service wasn't working properly and we didn't get the text until we were almost back to the car. Capas used to be our go-to place for a fun burrito, but we may have to re-think our choice, especially if the people who work there aren't as invested in their food as they used to be. read more

I stopped by on Friday, 12/05/25 around 8:00 and ordered the burnt ends burrito mission style. I thought it sounded good and who doesn't love burnt ends? Well, it took a bit but I got my burrito. The beans are puree, the burnt ends were so soft, processed, and pre-digested that it was kind of like a creamy beef paste. The rice was over cooked and also had turned into a paste. I was hungry and I ate it. HUGE MISTAKE. I should have tossed this $21 turd out the window. Nope, i ate most of it, and barely survived. It's no wonder Capas was the busiest restaurant in the food hall as the food was all delicious- expect a little bit of a wait for the food. Strolling downtown and happened to come across this incredible place. So much to choose from, when we finally decided my friend and I had carnitas tacos and potato tacos. They were so so good. Can't even begin to explain the amazing flavor and what was in it but wow! And shout out to Dominic the cashier/awesome guy at counter was so nice and great to talk to! We waited at the counter and could see two men through the glass window where the cooking is presumably done in the back, but no one ever arrived at the counter to take our order. Many of the other restaurant hubs in this location have a screen kiosk at which you can order, but the ones at Capas were turned away from us. We perused the other offerings and bought some cookies, returning to their counter two more times to no avail. No one ever arrived at the counter to take our order nor anyone else's. I personally found Capas absolutely delicious. I was devastated that I didn't get a specific sauce that I wanted however, the food smelled and looked incredible. Had an awful experience. First, their "pickle"de gallo is awful, I still believe it was spoiled, but when I politely mentioned it to one of the chefs he told me that he has great quality assurance and that it's an acquired taste. I've had pickled de Gallo before, and this is made with fermented pickle juice - tasting awful or spoiled. If that was the end of it, I would not have even bothered with a review, but when my son had the same awful "salsa" in his $20 burrito, I asked if they could remake it. The girl who I talked to was polite and said they would remake it no problem. Got the burrito in 10 min, but when my son tried to eat it, he realized they had simply scraped out 80% of the salsa and rewrapped it. It was completely inedible. read more

First time visit. Nice staff. Cool place. Ordered the Ceviche. The Yellowtail. It was a soupy consistency and the fish were ice cube sized, about 4 pieces. Too big for the chips. I wish it ended there. Around 4am came the rest. So sick. I missed the great plans we had for Sunday. I read another reviewer had the same issue so decided I'd better share my experience.
