First impression: Wow! This is a small airport! But it serves its function well in getting you to & from Hyannis area. Just the right size for a small municipal airport. Everything is within a short walking distance. The ticketing & bag check counters are there as you enter the main door. Turn left and it's a short distance to car rental desks. Turn right and you walk past the Island Grill and, then, the TSA screening area. Very compact. No shuttles, long walks to the gates, crowded TSA screening lines. Thus, the usual two-hours prior to domestic flights boarding times advice can be modified to about one hour. The major downside of sorts for those used to big metro area airports is the airport's schedules. The car rental counters close at six pm or earlier. (I couldn't find options for after hours car pickup although after hours returns are possible. Check with the airport's rental counters directly before booking online.) Airline ticket counters might closed except for about an hour or two before boarding. No continuous round the clock bustling. The airport accommodations are limited. Except for the Island Grill, vending machines are the only other food & beverage options. Plenty of seats for waiting. read more

This is a super small airport with almost no amenities. The only reason we used it was because it was cheaper to fly into here than flying into Boston. The terminal was average and there aren't any food options. The flights were on time which was a bonus. I have no problem flying into this airport again as long as it continues to be cheaper than Boston. read more

This is a small airport but it's a good one. Checking in my bags, getting through security, and waiting for my plane honestly felt like it took 30 minutes. That's no time at all. I think they could have a little something more than a couple of vending machines like maybe a snack shop or a Mcdonald's, although with the quick speed of how people come in and out of the airport, it seems they might not even need that. My flight was also easy leaving and coming back to New York. I really loved my travel experience. read more

extremely convenient to get from the Cape to Logan. Last Friday I was stuck in the middle of the airline mess. Keep air was flying, but many others were not with the Microsoft failure. Camilla at the Cape air counter was incredible. she took my information and texted me updates on what was happening with spirit airlines who I had to get in Logan. She offered me alternatives on how to fly out that day. And her great personality and great sense of humor made, but could've been an ugly experience pretty easy if you're at the airport stop by and say hi to Camilla. read more

For a municipal airport, it's OK. Municipal airports tend to be bleak places, with flights limited to private planes and hobbyists. They're not famous for food courts (like SFO) or spectacular views (like ABQ and PDX). The Barnstable Municipal Airport is right off one of Cape Cod's busiest rotaries. Its highlight is the nearby Wendy's, and a large gas station. Barnstable Municipal Airport offers a few planes- JetBlue, Cape Air (seasonal) JetBlue travels between JFK and Logan. One can directly get to Cape Cod from Logan using this airport off the beaten path. It's a friendly, small airport. There's a Cape Cod Coffee Cafe (that's pre-security, so anyone can drop by), an art gallery, not much else. There's only a single gate. Small and convenient. read more

This place is an embarrassment. We went purely to pick up a rental car we had reserved from Budget and walked in to a totally empty airport - no employee in sight. All of the rental car desks had hand written signs on them that said no one was available to help and they'd be back in a while. Turns out there were three employees but they were all in the back (we honestly suspect they were doing drugs because they seemed high). So we waited a 1/2 hour for an agent to help us. The worst part of the whole experience was the mentally challenged man who worked in the airport parking lot and REFUSED to let us exit without paying -- that is to say, my dad (the driver) has a valid handicap placard which means, in the state of Massachusetts, you don't have to pay for parking (even in paid lots). We were at this same airport/parking lot a few days ago and that parking attendant knew the law and let us exit; this rude man would not. read more

This airport feel so old school, small town, and tiny. It's not the shiniest, newest airport by any means, but you can tell that everyone knows each other and chills out. The bathroom is surprisingly advanced for the looks of this airport - everything is automatic! read more

I frequently visit my family on the Cape, and it took me over ten years of living out-of-state to decide to fly out of this airport. It's pricy to fly out of Barnstable (HYA), but it can be worth it. In mid-May 2019, I purchased a Cape Air ticket because it was on the cheaper side, and I didn't want to get on a bus to Boston. I knew what I was getting into, and the airport met my expectations. I couldn't check-in online, but that wasn't a big deal since there was no wait at the counter. My flight had three other people on it, and the airport had more staff than passengers. After I checked in, I made my way down to the gate, thinking I'd go straight to security. Well, the door to the security checkpoint was open, but the TSA agents were hanging out in their offices. So, I just waited on the benches for a boarding announcement with another guy on my flight. Cape Cod Coffee operates pre-security near the Cape Air/JetBlue gate, which is convenient, but could be a bummer if you need to go through security right away. There are only vending machines and water fountains post-security. While I had a good experience with the airport and Cape Air, I don't think I'll be flying out of HYA again until Cape Air retires their Cessna 402C fleet for the Tecnam P2012 Traveller, or I get on a JetBlue seasonal E190 flight. The Cessna's are outdated, very small, and not very comfortable for passengers. read more

I've never used the flights out of this airport but the car rental employees are mean as hell. I've used both National and Dollar, for returns and pick-ups. Dollar literally tried to steal my money after I didn't have a credit card to put on file and then told me to go to another desk to see if they could accommodate. After questioning where my pre-paid money would go, she shrugged. read more

This is definitely the smallest airport so far that I can think of out of my experiences traveling. There are limited airlines and flight schedules, so make sure to plan accordingly if you're planning to fly in or out. My family and I arrived at and departed from this airport because of a wedding that we had to attend to. We had also reserved a rental car for the trip and the rental car services are conveniently located inside the airport. The entire staff there, including the rental car staff, airport security and airline representatives, were helpful and polite. Just a disclaimer - if you are planning to fly with Cape Air, their planes are usually small (8-9 passenger seats). In result, there is more turbulence. I experienced a few moments of being airsick on the way to Hyannis. So, for those who are easily prone to motion sickness, prepare yourself. Small but plenty efficient airport. The fact that it is so small also means less traffic and people to manuever around which is great. The entrance is a little annoying to find for newcomers.. You must enter the rotary if coming from the upper cape, go around a full time and exit the same way-- the entrance is right after UNO on the main road. Other than finding where the hell to enter, it was easy peasy and parking was free under 30 mins I believe. read more

Quiet, clean, friendly staff, easy and cheap parking ($50 for a week). The cafe isn't quite what I expected. There is a vending machine, a microwave and some tables. It looks like a hospital cafeteria...without food. You don't need to show up super early for your flight, security is a breeze (as in, there really isn't any if you are flying to ACK) and there are enough things to keep your attention while you wait. read more

This airport is extremely small and has a very limited schedule. The only reason you would take it is if you want to get on a tiny airplane flight to one of the islands. Parking is very cheap, but should really be free considering it's one of the only places you need to pay for parking on Cape Cod. read more

Awesome airport. Probably also the smallest. Flew Cape Air in 8-seater plane from HYA-BOS, on my way to JFK. This place has a very local vibe, like everyone knows each other... I guess this is not a very common route for non-business type people, as it's much cheaper, and not much slower to take the bus up to boston. The staff were extremely friendly, even when letting me know that my check-in luggage would be searched. There is basically only one gate, and you just walk out a door and across the tarmac to the little plane. I think our plane actually belonged to Nantucket Airlines... guess they don't need it that much. read more

2 stars and that's being kind. At 8am on a normal Friday: 1. Rental car return not well marked so finding the lot was confusing 2. Waited 15 mins for someone to show up at the Enterprise car return counter 3. Woman at the Cape Air check-in counter wasn't unfriendly but let's just say she could have been a lot nicer 4. Security doesn't open until a few minutes before your departure time. Don't worry because there isn't any real 'gates' like most people are used to at a larger airport. It's just an area with 1 tv and a bunch of chairs. No clear direction on where to go, when the plane will arrive, etc... 6. "Lastly, how much do you weigh?I wonder if I would have lied would she have made me stand on the scale? Haha can't they just approximate people's weight? If they're calculating it down to the pound then I'm thinking I should have driven to Boston for a normal flight and skipped the "puddle jumper". Never again.... read more

Plus or minus on the staff. Line guys can be outright rude at times. Other times they are pleasant. Guess it depends on who you get. Pilot lounge is ok but a little on the mom and pop side of FBO's. Fuel prices on the high side. read more
