Very beautiful place, great view. But, none of this matters when poor service is what you get. We stopped staying here because ,literally, Three times out of four they had our reservations wrong. I understand this happens once in a while. But one time after another really got old. Not only were we inconvenienced but we were treated as a nuisance by the teen running the front desk. The rooms are clean and spacious. Bathrooms are pretty standard. Over all nice facility. Main complaint is customer service. The restaurant is pretty decent food most of the time. Prices continue to rise, but the food quality doesn't Went last weekend and received TERRIFIC service from the hostess and waiter. They were friendly, helpful and received a well-deserved 30% tip. But the rising costs are just silly. $17 for eight bacon wrapped scallops? I could see that for large fresh caught/cooked scallops. But these are clearly frozen bite-sized ones. Their other dinner prices keep going up every year. The $25 dollar seafood or steak dinners are now up into the $30 range. They charge 5-star prices for food that is at the 3 or 4 star level. Simply because its Ketchikan and you don't have many other choices for a nice dinner. But listen here, brother. Let me tell you one thing. Two words: Crab Brie. I think it's up to $15 now (when did appetizers move into the $15-20 range?). But it is absolutely mouth watering delicious. Served with fresh cut apples......and you can use their warm tasty bread as a dipper.......the Brie is absolutely delicious. Their food is usually pretty good. To be honest, if their prices were about 10% less - I'd give this place 4 stars for Ketchikan. But the shrimp or chicken dinner you pay $30 for here, you can get in Seattle for $15. And if you pay $30-35 for a chicken or seafood dinner in Seattle, you know you are getting a tasty gourmet meal. But $30 at Cape Fox gets you a decent dinner - but nothing gourmet about it. The food tastes good, but I often leave thinking "That was $35? It was good....but I could have made something just as good at home." Instead of leaving thinking "wow, that was amazing. I wish I could cook that good." Does that make sense? read more

You can do no wrong with the Halibut and Chips. Having grown up in Ketchikan, I have had a lot of memories of going to Cape Fox. As a kid, how can you not love brunch with a platter of bacon?! Cape Fox has decent food and a great view, and is located "downtown". If you're visiting, have a stop at the bar, get some appetizers, than see what the rest of the town has to offer. read more

My friend and I did not stay here, we ate lunch here. Both of us got a burger of some kind, and they were fine. The fries were of the shoestring variety, and were quite yummy. The food was solid. Waitress was cordial, and the view was nice. Wish there weren't any smokers around us, but what can you do? I guess I'm spoiled by the no smoking in restaurants rule here in Columbus. I am from Alasksa and flew down from the Valley for business. A local told me in detail to try the crab Brie dip. Having time to kill for the 5 pm flight I walked thru the historic district and road the tram for $1 I think. The restaurant is typical lodge with a cafeteria feel but nice view. Other things looked good on the menu but I stuck with the recommendation and added a cup of chowder. I received a nice cup of seafood chowder and fabulous crock of creamy, buttery melted Brie blended and broiled with crab. It was served with homemade, tender rolls! YUM. Also served with this dish were tart, sliced green apples. I am ashamed to say I ate it all. Small $4 drink specials like creme de cocoa and cherry southern comfort were nice for a dessert. I can't vouch for the rest of the food but there is a reason they say "a local favorite" next to the Brie appetizer. read more

We hiked all the way up married man's hill specifically for the view at the Cape Fox restaurant since the tram was broken. When we asked to be seated there was a table right in the corner with a panoramic view of Ketchikan. I asked if we could have that table. "Nope, we have to balance our seating for better service." I again pressed the issue emphasizing that we walked all the way up there for the view." The hostess just ignored me and seated us elsewhere. A prime example of a biz putting their needs ahead of the customer's needs! How hard would it be to ask a server to walk 20 extra steps to accommodate such a reasonable request? After being seated at a table that we didn't like we sat there for 15 minutes staring at their astronomical prices and still no one came to our table. So evidently their balancing doesn't actually lead to good service anyway. We finally got up and walked out and no one even noticed. We went to Annabelles and were seated right away and the waiter came within about 3 minutes and we paid about half what we would have at Cape Fox. read more

Good food for pretty reasonable prices! I had the salmon, lodge-style (I think that means the house style, which is baked in a brown sugar glaze) with a spinach salad. The salad was excellent (and I say that as a non-salad eater in general) - plenty of spinach and other toppings (I think it was candied pecans, apple, and feta) and a tasty vinaigrette. The salmon was solid, although I think I would go for cedar plank next time. I think this may have actually been the least expensive salmon I had during my couple days. Comfortable room, reasonable bed. The room I stayed in had a king size bed, the bed itself was comfortable. The pillows are a bit soft, linens are reasonable, but not plush. The room is huge for a hotel. TV's are old, but have cable TV connected. Bathroom is nothing special, but is large enough. The hotel property is unique and lends to a wonderful stay in Kerchikan. read more

I really like this place... For Alaska it's great! The tram is a giant plus! The only reason it has 3 stars is because tourist don't understand that they need to lower there expectations when it comes to customer service in Alaska. I just took the tram. The "museum" on the 2nd floor is ok but not really worth writing about (and I don't know if it's even worth the minimal effort of climbing the stairs so take the elevator I guess). The totem poles out back are interesting. There are some hiking trails if you want to go down to see some salmon. I think it's worth the cheap ride up the funicular. read more

This restaurant is in a very upscale hotel at the top of a funicular which is a cool way to get to the place. Unfortunately the hotel had a small conference which over stressed the end of the season wait staff. The wine took 10 minutes to be delivered and the bread was even slower. The waiter acknowledged the problem and from that point on was very attentive. The food was also mixed - great shrimp cocktail and spinach salad but the fish and chips were poor (the fish was tough and the chips pedestrian) and the seafood pasta light on the seafood. read more

People talk about this place like it's the Crow's Nest (in Anchorage), but I think they just like the little tram thingy that takes you up the hill. It's a glorified Stuart Anderson's!! Menu items were things like deep fried seafood with your choice of 5 different forms of starch (ugh). I got NOT-fried halibut, which was ok but paid extra to sub a salad, which was lettuce & croutons with mediocre runny blue-cheese. They also have lots of kinds of steaks, with wording like "many fat layers". I didn't try any of these, and probably won't now that I know what type of restaurant this is. Also, when will Ketchikan go non-smoking??? Not the restaurant's fault, but gross when eating with people smoking nearby. Great view though. Looks like the attached hotel might be a cool place to stay too. read more

Love that there is an American Legion still kick'n ass. Not a member, but they'll let you drink for a small fee and signing the guest book. Great little joint with a view of the creek. Good cold beer, and some of the nicest folks I met in Alaska. Great place for a beer after a day fishing in Katchikan. read more

The setting and the view is awesome but the rooms are old and not in a nice way. The rooms are clean but if hot water is important to you between 630 and 7, then you should consider staying elsewhere. Mattresses are also old and saggy. The restaurant has a great view and service is good but I'm very confident all their seafood comes from the frozen food section at Walmart. If you HAVE to eat there i'd recommend the hamburger and a salad. They allow smoking in the adjacent bar (I guess cuz they are Alaska they feel the have to?) This may make it totally unacceptable to folks sensitive to smoke as it flows down to the restaurant. read more

We were seated immediately when we arrived. Those who make reservations seem to get he window tables by the way. Our table happened to be right where the sun was and it was incredibly hot. We asked to be moved and we were, but the waitress did seem a tad irked... but it ended up fine. Service was quick, food was good and view was excellent. It's not cheap, so keep that in mind. But on the island there's so much that's open according to the cruise ships that it's nice to have this as an out to eat option. Parking is fine unless there's an event/wedding going on! I've stayed here many, many times. It's kind of my "old reliable." The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and there is a full bar and an espresso stand. There are healthy options, but the salmon, shrimp and reindeer dishes are especially delicious. Everything you need! And it is Native-owned, which is an extra plus for me. The funicular, or outdoor diagonal tram, brings you down the mountain from the hotel to Creek Street and the waterfront. The rooms are always cozy and clean, and the staff is friendly. read more

This is a really nice change of pace restaurant here in Ketchikan. It's more of an upscale kind of treat. The meals are intricately put together. The service we receive here is fast and professional for the most part. The view from the restaurant is actually refreshing. There's a good variety of meals that is surely to please anyone dining here. The portions are not too smal, which is always the concern when paying for any meal at an "upscale" restaurant. The atmosphere is pleasantly calming. The many views while enjoying a nice meal here includes a fireplace, hills, tram, creek street, the narrows, and many views of Ketchikan. read more

Came to town for work and was recommended by a coworker to stay here. Absolutely fabulous accommodations. Had to work nights and manager Michelle was gracious enough to get me a quiet room on the top floor so I could sleep during the day. It even had a great view of the town and bay below! Wonderful staff and restaurant. Get the seafood chowder in a bread bowl and biscuits and gravy like momma used to make! Will stay again next time I'm in town! Highly recommended!!! read more

Stayed here for a quick overnight while in town last week for business. The lodge itself is descent, the rooms are spacious, although we had a couple little problems that were addressed by hotel staff. The views were nice. We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant with lots of wine, a good crab and Brie dip, and shared a couple entrees- the shrimp and scallop kabobs (the best) and a coconut crusted halibut (I believe)- the fish was a huge portion but the sauce on top was too sweet for both of us and the fish was a little dry. We could have skipped the 2nd entree entirely. Service was very friendly and attentive....would definitely come back. read more

Epically bad restaurant. Rude staff and inedible food. All the food we had was incredibly bland and lifeless. Even the seafood tasted like it was old frozen. I had a couple beers and each time I saw my beer sitting at the bar and my waitress wouldn't bring it over, so after a few minutes I would go up and get it. The waitress looked overwhelmed. She brought our salads but no silverware, after almost 20 minutes we were able to flag her down, we told her and she rolled her eyes and shrugged like it was our fault.
