I have been to this distillery in past trips to Ketchican where I have done their tasting flights and had some of their craft cocktails as well Which I always liked. The distillery tour, which is the focus of this updated review, was 2.5 hours long and was an absolute pleasure to attend. Travis, one of the two co-owners, did a great job of mixing in the historical aspects of his distillery, with the science of how the distilling process works while mixing in his own down home humor to make for an excellent excursion. As part of this tour you get to taste all the products Uncharted make, which includes numerous Gin, Vodka, Agave and whiskey products while Travis is giving his presentation. Upon completion of his presentation we went upstairs to the "lab" to make our own personalized bottle of liquor where I ended up making an orange colander Agave. Such fun! If you have any interest in the distilling process and have ever wondered how liquor is made you should definitely give this excursion some strong consideration as you will not be disappointed. This was on my list because I knew the line for the Fire Department vending machine (T-shirts) would be long and I read this was an alternate for finding those t-shirts and I knew of a Ketchikan local who authored children's books and cookbooks were also on sale there. I was also hoping for a tasting flight, because if you have been to my house, you know I have an extensive bar and most of my bottles are from small batch distilleries. No flights- so we had morning cocktails! It's vacation, no judging~ I had a very strong old fashioned, John enjoyed his gin cocktail and he also tried their on tap root beer! Loved the atmosphere! We are in Alaska and wanted to do something we had never done. This was a fun experience for our family. They explain the history and how the distilling works. You can make your own blend and flavor it and make it the color you want. It's actually quite interesting. They also gave a nice gift shop and non alcoholic drinks. This place is very cool and the spirits here are high. Keep vodka to save the ocean is amazing. Not much of a gin guy but this place gave me a different perspective on their twist on gin. Very sweet tasting and can only imagine the variety of cocktails you could make with it. The crew here are all retired firefighters and the building they are in is an old firehouse! Quirky little distillery in what looks to be the original Ketchikan Fire Department. I'm told the owners were both in the fire service and there are of helmets and patches to provide credibility decorating the place. This was must stop in for me given I spent 30 years in the fire service. They offer several signature cocktails at the bar. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. It looks as if they have perhaps 3 small stills that you can see from an observation window and open doorway to the distillery proper. They have a variety of spirits: Whiskey, gin and vodka. Their whisky is a sourgum whisky... so not sure they have intentions to move towards a proper bourbon. Whisky old fashion was different. It's a booze style old fashioned without any sort of mixer... but it was good. Truth be told I'm a little envious that I don't have a distillery in any former Fire Station. read more

Cozy little spot with great cocktails. Easily walkabke from the cruise port. Drinks were well priced with most being $10-$13 dollars. I got a Sled Dog Cocktail. Their gin was very good and and the grapefruit and lime complimented it nicely. Looks like you can also do tours and infusion experiences, but these are definitely pricier. Would recommend stopping in when in Ketchikan. read more

The lady working was so incredibly nice. We just stumbled across this place and went in and ended up being one of our most memorable stops in Alaska. My uncle is a former firefighter captain so he would have loved all the related decor; it was certainly unique. The drinks were tasty and I'm not a big cocktail person. Small distiller with great drinks and great samples. The Gin was tasty. The vodka was was smooth. The tequila had a nice flavor-not sharp. And the whiskey was mice. 15 mixed drinks available. Due to their liquor license, you are limited to 2 drinks (one drink can be a tasting of the 4 liquors). They have food in the evening. What a great find this distillery was! After walking around town, we were ready for some refreshments. We each tried a couple different house specialties made with their whisky, vodka, or gin. We shared around - the different herbal, zesty, citrus, smooth, or sweet concoctions each had their own unique, tasty, and refreshing personalities - enough for us to go back for second tour about the menu! The bartender was personable and knowledgeable about the distilling process. My husband is a whisky guy, so he really enjoyed hearing about the ingredients and process. The setting was perfect for us, with a space with couches and a table for us to kick back and relax into. Plenty of space for folks - at the bars stacked on the barrels housing maturing whisky, on the couches, and in chairs. Lots of fresh air and relaxing vibe. read more

Took a tour as part of my cruise to Alaska. You can tell the owners really enjoy what they do and are overall really good guys. The distillery process was interesting to learn about, but I wish I would have been able to see more of the facility. Lots of samples/opportunities for you to try their different vodkas. Kelp vodka sounds like it would be disgusting, but don't knock it until you try it! It was actually pretty good! For the second half of the tour you got to infuse your own vodka which was a lot of fun. My only star off is for wanting to see more. read more

Walking around Ketchikan, I stumbled upon this place as a refuge from the rain. They were open early. It's interesting to learn that this distillery was formerly a fire station. You can see the fire house motif throughout the place. Their menu is eclectic, interesting and innovative. They have complementary fresh water with orange slices from a dispenser. I opted not to drink at 9AM but enjoyed hearing about their history from the pub crawl happening during my short stay. They have a variety of spirits including gin and vodka. Love love love all the makings of this place. A flight is not on the menu but they so offer a tasting if you ask, to help you decide which you want to partake. Great venue in an old fire station, just wish they installed heaters along the front to help keep you warm, the liquor helps in that regard but not entirely. What a great spot and bunch of goodies they offer though! Plus restrooms with no lines since they are slightly off the tourist path the service was quick and friendly. Wasn't impressed, and it started with the initial interaction of the bartender. We patiently waited (the bartender was busy making drinks with some ladies ) I asked if they make bourbon in house? Answer: No. Then I asked where do they get the bourbon? Answer: No, we don't have bourbon. Now I had to scratch my head, because one of the drinks on the menu has an alcohol of "whiskey". So I said - I see on the menu, what's in the whiskey sour - what is that? Answer: That's whiskey. Oh.... What an Idiot! When the customer is asking about bourbon, of course he is referring to "whiskey" That irked me, (she could of easily just said - We make whiskey in house) and against better judgement I decided to take a chance and try their drinks. I ordered the Whiskey Sour, my friend got Dark Skies. They also sell "moonshine elderberry flavored". I told her I am mainly into bourbon and my wife likes mooshine. I asked if it was possible to get a sample of the moonshine (i believe was $40 for 375ML) Answer: Yes, if you're really going to buy it. Huh? No, i won't promise prior to trying. Begruding she gave me a small sample. Glad to try it, because it was a hardpass. My drink was OK, and my friend enjoyed Dark Skies. I didn't get a second drink. My other friends joined us later, and they got drinks. They enjoyed themselves. Drinks were $13-14 ea (excluding tax) Note to Uncharted AD - Learn customer service skills. We stopped in last minute from our cruise visit. Had I known how amazing their drink the Aurora Borealis was, I would have gotten there earlier and stayed longer! I noticed they were giving tours, which sounded very interesting and if we ever make it back, we will check that out with our 2nd Aurora Borealis in hand. Wow what a wonderful place. Loved our tasting! I came for gin but also fell in love with their citrus vodka. So good. Wonderful in ice tea as a cocktail. My husband thought the barrel aged gin was amazing. We bought that and the citrus vodka. The gin and tonic we had was superb also - they put homemade rhubarb syrup in it! Omg- so delicious. Uncharted was our first stop on our pub crawl in Ketchikan... and hands down, my favorite! The place is in a historic fire station, and they lean into that hard... and I love it. We were hoping to do a spirit tasting, but they only serve cocktails. Both of our cocktails were incredible. I got a gin and tonic and my husband got the fire dog old fashioned. Both were incredible. Perfectly made, so you could taste the spirits. I ended up getting a bottle of the citrus gin to bring home with me. So glad I found this place! read more

We found the distillery while exploring town and decided to stop by after having dinner.The place has a unique decor. It used to fire house and you find out quick enough. So I'm just a tiny bit annoyed with myself on this one, because I *could* have gotten the "first to review", if I'd been less lazy - I was in Alaska the very beginning of June, on a cruise that had been rescheduled first from 2020 to 2021, then to 2022, for obvious reasons. I had a whole list of places I wanted to visit on that trip, saved from 2020, but obviously things had changed pretty significantly in those 2 years. Mostly that meant places that had closed, so imagine my surprise when, the morning we were going to be in Ketchikan, I was looking at Google Maps to figure out exactly where our ship had docked, and bang, there was a completely brand new distillery on the map, a couple blocks away? (It hadn't shown up even on the updated research I did immediately before the trip... because they had *literally* just opened - I think they'd been open for a few days at that point. Now they've been open for a couple months, though I imagine the experience would be pretty similar still.) First off, the price of a tasting: free! (You never see that in California, but it seems to be more common in Alaska.) When I was there, they had a vodka that was pretty standard for craft vodka, a $40 bottle of 100% sorghum vodka that was absolutely excellent, a very good citrus-infused vodka, and one gin (G2 - sounds like they have a couple other gins I didn't get to try, but the one I did get to, is seriously fantastic, smooth, flavorful, and *local*. I brought a bottle home.) Though it wouldn't surprise me if the tasting had changed somewhat by now - apparently some of their limited-release experiments make as few as 75 bottles! Another thing you don't see very often in California (I think in this case due to California having stupid liquor laws), so I enjoyed Alaska being more open to that. I was coming from a cruise where we had unlimited drinks, so I only tried one, but with how good the gin was, compared to the very mainstream gins on the cruise, I *had* to get a gin cocktail with a craft gin. I'm a big fan of gin bloody marys - I can unequivocally say, theirs were better than the ship, unsurprisingly. Great fresh bloody mary mix, perfectly spicy, and obviously, much better gin! If you just order a bloody mary, obviously you'll get it with vodka, and their vodka isn't bad, but gin bloody marys with a good craft gin are just the best, and theirs are great! One other cool thing, the guy behind the bar when I was there: Jack, one of the distillers! Was nice to get to tell one of the people responsible for making the product I was drinking that it was great in person, plus obviously if he was involved in making it, you know he's going to be knowledgeable about how it was made! How cool is that? (Plus he signed my bottle! It's a nice looking bottle, too, if you care about that sort of thing.) Well anyway, it was great, and I hope they do great! I'd be back all the time, if, you know, it weren't thousands of miles away on an island in another state. I'll be back next time I'm on an Alaska cruise that goes to Ketchikan, though, that's for sure! Probably be done with the bottle of gin by then, too, I'll need to buy another one! read more

Great spot, old fire station I walked out of there with a bottle of vodka and a shirt didn't realize there's no logo on the front. It's just a plain black shirt on the front but I love the logo on the back. That was the only disappointing part Gins fantastic too and I'm not a gun guy at all. read more

Best Booze in Ketchikan! The building was previously the town's operational fire station, and has been painstakingly renovated to a top notch distillery! The alcohol here is top shelf and makes a great gift for any friends or family that didn't get to come on the cruise with you! Lol My personal favorite is the gin, and we loved the bottle so much that once it was empty we put fairy lights in it and use it as a decoration to remember our trip! Plus if you are not sure what to buy they offer tastings at the counter. I also love how much attention to detail was taken in their renovation- with lots to look at as you sip your beverage (they even re-purposed old fire hose for the trim under the counters!) Take my advice and come see this fun and funky place! We can't wait to go back. read more

Fantastic stop, 110% recommend!! Their #3 gin is NOT to be missed, really beautiful. There is also a #2 and a #4, but #3 was the one for me! We were hosted by Jack, one of the owners, and he was friendly, welcoming & down to earth - we really enjoyed talking about all the offerings with him.
