The wait was egregious. The fish was crispy and has a panko crust which different from the batter you expect from a fish and chips but that is about all that is noteworthy. The food was hot and fresh but a bit pricey, not worth the wait but if you have time to kill why not?

Highly recommended online and by locals. It was packed after the Lumberjack show, so we came back for dinner. The Alaska tacos were delicious; loved the slaw, but I prefer the halibut to the salmon. Great view of a small harbor with fishing charter boats. We saw a seal pop under the nearby building and walked down the ramp after. Very friendly staff!

Tourist trap that unfortunately has 1) overpriced mediocre food and 2) the customer service of an angsty teenager. Let's start with the first point since that's what you're here for: The batter on the fish and chips is well-fried but bland. The dungeness crab is nothing to call home about. Save your money and buy crab from Costco or across the street--unless you want to spend $50 for 1lb of mediocre crab. The fries and salmon chowder are honestly the best part as other reviews have indicated. But everything is absurdly overpriced and nothing special. The latter point is what drove my rating from a 3 to a 1. Seating is self-serve. Tables are packed inside, so naturally after ordering food, we find available seating at the tables in front of the restaurant. 25 minutes later, a young girl with blonde hair brings out part of our order along with a snarky comment, "Next time, can you guys let us know if you're going to sit outside." Excuse me? Next time, why don't you tell me where I should sit if the tables DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF your restaurant are not an area you check when serving food, despite there being a sign about seating literally next to those tables? Then a second girl with red hair comes out and adds, "You guys can't drink alcohol outside." We apologize and explain that we didn't know. "Well there are signs everywhere." Okay. There are literally NO signs that say that (I challenge you to take a look through all the atmosphere photos from other reviewers and find one with the sign about 1. "notifying the staff you'll be sitting outside" and 2. "not bringing alcohol to the tables in the front") EXCEPT at the back patio of the restaurant... which no one would see if they're sitting inside or in front. Of course, we still respect the restaurant rules and move our stuff to their back porch "seating" (5 chairs propped against a fence with a 4-inch ledge) and finish dining. Upon leaving, we were met with glaring stares from the 2 girls behind the counter. Absolutely unacceptable behavior from a highly rated restaurant. Here's a tip for the waiters: if your customers make a mistake, kindly redirect them rather than assuming they did it with malicious intentions. And don't double down on your accusations if the customer apologizes. Here's a tip for cruisers to get better food for better value: try the fish and chips or fish tacos in Juneau at Deckhand Dave (MUCH tastier and MUCH cheaper at $21 for Halibut fish and chips), and eat at other local restaurants in Ketchikan instead.

Went to this place during one of our cruise stops during our Alaska cruise. We saw a big line and we knew we had to try this place. They service fish in different form factors such as a taco, fish and chips, or even a rice bowl. I decided to try the fish and chips and got the sampler which consisted of one of each fish (cod, salmon, and halibut). The fries had a smoky barbecue taste which complimented really well with the fried fish. The fish was crispy and the picked coleslaw helped balance out all of the fatty food from the fried fish and fries. The halibut was my favorite piece as it was flavorful and tender, I can see why they charge way more by the piece for it. The salmon chowder was also good but very heavy, I recommend sharing the chowder with someone as it is a lot of food. Overall, I would come back if I was in the area but I wouldn't wait longer than 15 minutes in line. 4/5

Unpopular opinion... We were told by a man in line that this was the best place for fish in Ketchikan. We were excited, even with the long line and long wait. We ordered and sat, after a long wait it was delivered, they forgot to give us one of the meals we ordered (but she didn't ring it up) so husband had to get back in line and wait again. Staff wasn't friendly (other than the girl taking our order). They were out of Halibut (you're literally a fish restaurant and on an ocean), that was fine though. The cod was fine, I'm not a fan of crumb crust/panko crust fish but it was fine. Fries were terrible! Nothing to remember or write home about. If I ever was in town again, I would choose somewhere else.

The food was delicious. My husband got the fish n chips sampler and I got the two piece with halibut. Our daughter got the rice bowl with crispy salmon. All were delicious. The fries have an amazing seasoning on them. Highly recommend they market that lol. I would definitely recommend this little spot and would come back. The view was beautiful if you're near a window too.

I came to Ketchikan from an Alaska Cruise and wanted to try out some salmon in the "Salmon Capital of the World". I chose this restaurant as it was nearby and had this famous "Salmon Chowder". I ordered my food relatively fast and I easily found a seat in the large seating area. The staff were really nice and made sure I was getting a good experience. I got the salmon fillet and the salmon chowder. The salmon fillet was very delicious and had a nice savory taste. I like the grilled texture. The salmon chowder was warm and so creamy, making it perfect for a relatively windy day at Ketchikan. There were a lot of salmon pieces there too. Definitely come check out this place out if you're ever in Ketchikan.

The long line was intimidating, but during our 45 minute wait, several customers were walking out and said "it's worth it!" encouraging us to stick with it! We ordered the smoked salmon chowder and the Alaskan sampler (one cod, one salmon, one halibut). I ripped into the fish upon arrival for my photo and we saw all three were the same: we think halibut. My fiancé wanted to just eat it since we were so short on time but I made him take it back since I wanted to try all three! He went back and sure enough the girl said yes that is not right and remade our order. Meanwhile, we chowed down on the chowder which was a-maz-ing!!! We received our correct order right in time: piping hot. Loved the light, crisp batter on the fish and the fries were delicious too. The halibut was our favorite: moist and so tasty. The salmon was second (a bit dry) and lastly the cod which was the driest. So in retrospect we should have kept our first incorrect order. LOL. Get the halibut fish and chips and the smoked salmon chowder!

Alaska Fish House - Ketchikan, AK After a day of brewery hopping, questionable navigation skills, and one too many "just one more drink" moments, we ended our Ketchikan crawl at Alaska Fish House--and thank the seafood gods we did. The blackened taco had just the right kick to jolt us out of our beer haze, and the smoked salmon chowder? Creamy, smoky, and borderline spiritual. We shared it... romantically, like a couple who still splits dessert and occasionally agrees on things. With dock views, fast service, and food that sobers you up and makes you fall in love again, Alaska Fish House was the perfect last stop. If you only remember one bite from your time in Ketchikan, make it this chowder.

i would give it about 3.75 stars. maybe it's jus me but salmon hasn't really impressed me in alaska lol. i'll say the chowder was good but the tacos and the bowls were just decent, absolutely nothing mind blowing at all but didn't taste bad at all. would i return (if i ever come back here), prolly not? it was good to try.

Yes there is a line but get in that line!

Once again, researched the best place to eat in Ketchikan, Alaska. Always the suggestion was Ketchikan is the place for salmon. Note, the address of the Fish House is on Salmon Landing. The front runner was the Alaskan Fish House. Waited in a line, maybe it was raining a bit, didn't matter, added to the moment. We selected the mixed plate of halibut, cod and salmon, served with fries and Cole slaw. Most importantly, we ordered some of their smoked salmon chowder. This chowder was the best I've ever tasted, chock full of smoked salmon, cubed potato and other seasonings that were perfect. Everyone there was having the best time, the food cannot be denied. After waiting in line, seems like we were served and seated inside rather quickly. I would have waited as long as necessary. Highly recommended the Alaskan Fish House and most importantly their smoke salmon chowder, which I will have to try and recreate this Fall. Thank you Alaskan Fish House for a totally awesome experience, you don't disappoint.

Halibut fish and chips along with salmon chowder since

Alaska Fish House was highly recommended from what I've seen online and i will say, it does not disappoint and lives up to the hype. My partner and I waited in line, which was roughly 45 minutes and an additional 15 for the food. We shared the 2 piece halibut fish and chips along with a cup of salmon chowder since we weren't too hungry... we could have ordered more after we discovered how delicious the food was. The salmon chowder was not too creamy which let the sweetness from the salmon shined. The star of the show was the fish and chips, they were on the pricier side but worth every dollar. The fish was thick, sweet, with a light coat of batter; paired with the homemade tartar sauce and it was perfect. The coleslaw was also a nice surprise, it was vinegar based instead of the usual mayo which gave it a nice twist and refresher from the heaviness of the fried food. They offer plenty of seating indoors, but if the weather is nice, opt to sit on the porch in the back so you can enjoy the view of the water! The employees do bring out the food to you.

What a great spot for lunch! We were on a tight schedule so we decided to wait outside before opening so we could secure a table and grab food. We were not the only ones with this idea and there was a line before they opened. However, this line was totally worth it! It is designed as an order at the front and find your own table which was great! They also have a full bar inside but drinks cannot go out to the front picnic tables so keep that in mind. The bartender was wonderful and made delicious drinks that we took to the small outdoor seating area. Both the grilled and blackened salmon tacos were wonderful. They were fresh, cooked perfectly, and the salsa on top was delicious. I will say I preferred the grilled because every flavor stood out more and the meat was more tender. The fries were amazing and worth ordering as the side. If you see a line, don't let it steer you away. Ordering is quick and painless, the food is amazing, and the view one of the best here!

Hi all ! This restaurant looks amazing - location, interior, views and THE FOOD yum ! May I ask how close it is to the cruise port ? Many thanks and cheers !

It depends on which cruise you take. It's close to the Crown Princess and the Quantum of the Seven Seas. For the Jewel, it's about a 20 minute shuttle bus drive to downtown.

This will be relevant later. Positives: roomier got the clamp chowder and said it was the best he's ever had in his 72 years. High praise! He didn't end up getting the crab, he figured for the price he would have preferred a different environment. Less than positives: The chowder was like a large cup. A bowl would have been better. I got a chicken sandwich. For $20+ I would have preferred something different. The bun was good, but the rest of the sandwich was just OK. The chicken seemed like it was a frozen patty and the fries that came with it were not my thing, either. They were crispy (good) but the seasoning was a lemon-pepper/dill combo and it was overpowering. Overall, I gave 4 stars since the roomie loved his soup.
