This library is on the small and cozy side, but it's a great place to hide away on a hot summer…read moreday. It houses bathrooms, A/C, Wi-Fi, a large selection of reading materials, and several seating areas including four comfy armchairs. Best of all, they have a huge selection of DVDs that spans multiple shelves and ranges from older films to ones as recent as last year. There's also a separate shelf for newly released movies that came out this year. Fortunately, we were able to get library cards simply by giving the librarian our IDs and an email confirmation of the place we were staying at. I guess that makes sense when most of your summer clientele are tourists. We come to Cape May once a year, so we'll be hitting this library up all the time.

You can get access to a bigger selection of ebooks if you sign up your library card with the libby app. For those that are here for the summer only and wondering how to get a card, you can bring in a copy of your tax record or I believe a utility bill to apply for a card. This really is a nice library. On the second floor there is a deck overlooking the wetlands and bay which would be a great spot to read and enjoy a cup of coffee. The sea isle city historical museum is also located within the library. Now, the main thing that gets this library 5 stars is the kid's programming. We came here all summer and the amount of programs they have for kids is awesome. The library in my hometown still refuses to do any in person indoor kids programming because of Covid and never brought back out the kid toys. My daughter is only 3 so she has never been able to enjoy our local library (Haverford Township) for basically her entire life. So, the SIC library has been a breath of fresh air this summer. The children's librarian who does story time is great along with all the other the library workers. Thank you to those who run this library for providing great educational activities! And for other parents who may be concerned, the programs for young kids here seems to be developmentally appropriate and not "woke"!

Which means you can rent from any library in Delaware. Like other progressive libraries, they have a small but very nice collection of books on CD, MP3 books, DVDs, as well as the typical periodicals and hardcover books. What came as a surprise to me is that the library also offers some kind of cool services to library card members; you can print any document to the library's printer and they will hold it for 72 hours. (small fee). You can also fax to and from the library if you need to. You also can download and read books on your ipads via the Internet, as well as reserve books from other libraries to be delivered to the Rehoboth Library using their online website. There are educational toys and supplies for all ages. Great selection of diverse books. They even have a book section of books in different languages. Perfect place for rainy days. I love the Schiavo Library! It's the only affordable option for summer residents on the…read moreStrathmere/Sea Isle island. Sea Isle City Public Library doesn't offer a seasonal membership, and their annual one is too expensive. Enter the Schiavo, only $25 for an individual and $40 for a family for a YEAR. It's a very small place, but what do you need at the shore? Just a friendly neighborhood place to get some books and use the internet. I mostly got the membership to pick up some books and movies for my kid, and I love the little table and coloring spot for her to play with while we're there. Just a little something extra to do on a rainy day. The only downsides would be that it is closed both Sundays AND Mondays (Monday is the witching day at the shore, apparently) and they charge too much for some things. I had to fax a 7 page contract once, and at $1 a page I found a $7 fax to be pretty ridiculous, especially for a member. Also DVD rentals are $1 for 3 days, and the selection is pretty slim. If you're going to pay $1 for a DVD, you might as well go to Redbox (Ocean City or Avalon) where you'll at least get all the latest titles. Still, this place is worth the membership fee for sure. They also offer a killer book sale at the beginning of the season where books are as cheap as $0.25!

It's sort of a Swiss Army Knife thing going on with the building housing a common lobby area with wireless internet, the Aquatic & Fitness Center, Arts Center, Museum, Library, Senior Center and a Café. Even without a book sale going on this library has a nice size to it and really offers a broad scope of material. Of course with not being a resident it's a no-go on borrowing but everything is still very bright, open and airy. Back to the book sale. It's a complete zoo where it seems like the whole town shows and up I can see why because they have tons of books, DVD's and yes even VHS's for sale at very reasonable prices starting at a quarter for a book. I know that most people on vacation wouldn't dream of hanging out in a library but if you get a questionable weather day this one is top notch and is great place to spend some time.

Went to a couple of the programs about literature and expected at least a "community college" level of lecture and discussion, it was way below that.
