I would love to tell you that this was a great clamboil but my friend and I never had the chance to eat it. Service was terrible and the chowder was full of dill and no clams. The two other friends I was dining with got their food and ate it and said it was ok. ( shrimp plate and fish tacos). The waitress asked when ordering if we wanted peppers with our clamboil and we said on the side. Three meals came out ( missing my clam boil) and my friends clamboil was filled with peppers and even the clam broth. Our waitress said my boil was on the way out and proceeded to go to kitchen. I asked her to talk and she ignored me. My friend wanted to return hers to the kitchen to get no hot peppers. When the waitress came out- she proceeded to give a clamboil to another table. So here I sit with no food. When asked to get my friend the right dinner she said cook was new and didn't know what we wanted.! She took my friends clamboil back and came out with one still wrong. Still sitting with no food. By then the two friends who had there food was done and my friend and I still had no food. I called the waitress over and said we were leaving and she said ok. No integrity and still continued to blame cook, but she was ignoring us and hiding in the kitchen and waiting on other tables. So sad because I frequently used to eat here before I moved away and was very excited to go there. No manager around. Another thing- we were given take out menus to look at- no real menus??!! Great lunch at Cape Quality! My Clam Chowder was terrific, nice balance of clams and potatoes, not too thick. I had a Tuna Salad Sandwich... it was HUGE and good. The fries were crispy and plentiful. And the cole slaw was dressed perfectly. read more

Hidden gem in the New Bedford area! We came here at around 8pm on a Friday night and it was packed. Got seated a few minutes later and had the steamers, shrimp frivoli and big ceaser salad. Huge portions of food! Loved the fried scallop (legit the best scallops I had in my life-- not over cooked and texture was spot on and definitely fresh)! If it is Seafood you want with great service, this is the place. Their Clam boil is one of the best. Nice clean clams. if you are a New Englander, you know what that means. If not, ask one. Fish and chips are a great one also, but you can get it 1/2 and 1/2 Fish and Scallops and fries. Their Salmon on a Caesar salad is very good. One of the first things you have to order is the Mussels on their App. list. Their staff is great and friendly and is willing to send you in any food experience you wish. We went there for the clam boil that was ok and requested no fish and no potato and we got no potato and fish. My son ask me how is the Baked Stuffed Lobster, i said never had it but why don't you try it. It came out with a good potion of Lobster In a casserole but the Dressing was Blah. $29 was a little pricey for that fish. We use to go quite often but I don't think we will be returning anytime soon read more

First visit in many years. I won't return. The chowder lacked flavor - it was bland, but that wasn't the worst part. Y serving was full of lumps of flour. I had few spoons full. There were few clams or potatoes. I did not eat it. I expressed my thoughts to the waitress. She said she'd take it off the bill, but she didn't. My friend and I got fish and chips. The portions were huge! And the fish was very good. The fries were soggy and greasy. Here appeared to be only one server for the entire restaurant and she was running her fanny off. The service was slow but I expect it's because there was a staffing shortage. The interior seemed really tired like it needed a good painting and refurbish. Also, the condiments on the table were really nasty, like vinegar and ketchup bottles had been refilled repeatedly. They were clean and neither were the salt and pepper shakers. Anyone who's given this restaurant more than 2 stars, certainly hasn't had lunch there. I've never have dinner there, but my lunch experiences have been atrocious. Let's take today's experience as the latest example. 3 of us sat down at our table at 12:15 (I specifically checked, having been around this situation before and because my men had to get back to work.) There were less than 15 diners in the restaurant, when we got there. The waitress arrived at our table at 12:35 to deliver menus and neglected to take a beverage order. She returned at 12:40 and took our food order, but no beverage order. We finally hailed her down about 10 minutes later and eventually got beverages. 2 of us ordered the "Broiled Seafood" plate for lunch. The menu says: "Served with your choice of potato and vegetable or salad". We both ordered with salad and the waitress proceeded to tell us that the salad was $2 extra. When questioned, she claimed the menu "meant" that we have our choice of "potato & vegetable" or "salad". Can she not read English? The salads arrive about 10 minutes later and must have just come out of the freezer and was barely edible. We then didn't see the waitress approach our table for another 30 minutes. We watched 3 other groups of patrons enter, order and eat ... before we even saw our waitress again. She then showed up and told us there was a "mess up" in the kitchen and our food would soon be ready. Our "food" showed up at 1:15 ... nearly an HOUR after we arrived at the restaurant. So how was the food? Did you ever in your life, get served a piece of white fish, that you couldn't cut with a knife? My knife would NOT cut the "fish". I have no clue what it was, but it was somewhat tougher than rubber. I did get 2 scallops that tasted ok. One person in our party had the "stuffed seafood" .. horrible. It was the same aluminum serving plate, with a slab of some identified "stuffing", dumped on top of it. When the waitress asked how everything was, she laughed when we told her that nothing was good, the service was bad and the fish was inedible. This place could be handing out $100 bills to diners and I'd still rather go to McDonald's or Burger King. Do yourself a favor and don't even think about visiting this poor excuse for a restaurant. BTW, their prices are approximately the same as Legal Seafood in Boston, so you're certainly paying top dollar for slop. read more

Just earned five stars from me! - Previously I rated Cape Quality 4 stars but not because of the food or service, both are great... The Clamboils are EXCELLENT!! - My family and I have been eating there for years, and I would not hesitate to recommend the place to anyone. While I cannot comment on many of the dishes they have on the menu, I can give the highest praise for their clamboils and lobster. If you enjoy clamboils or lobster, I promise you will not be disappointed at Cape Quality! The staff is very friendly. You don't have to know the place is family owned to get the feeling that it actually is. You may be wondering why I originally rated the place four stars yet sing such high praises about the food and the staff... That's a valid question... Well, my only gripe "used to be" (of all things) the restrooms - They were never dirty, or unattended, but they just needed a little facelift to feel right. That said, my previous hangup with issuing a fifth star has been rectified... Newly remodeled restrooms, and they look fantastic! Admittedly, my restroom hangup had nothing to do with the food, but I do feel the restroom of any restaurant reflects on the overall feeling of the dining experience. Maybe I'm a little OCD? - Who knows?... Next time you are thinking of fresh seafood, give Cape Quality a try - You'll be pleasantly surprised! Really I cant believe Cape quality has such a low yelp rating.... They are my go to for fish and chips and other fried seafood! The prices are great... Its not fancy its fresh seafood behind a fish market its not supposed to beI My parents come here I think 3 or 4 times a month I visit or get take out once or twice a month. The regular sized fish and chips is huge! The scallops wrapped in bacon with a maple type sauce is just amazing.. I would give it five stars, but the have one hiccup not a fan of there lobster roll.. If you just want some fried seafood at a good price locally you really can't beat this place especially since some of my other seafood favorites are seasonal! read more

The homemade stuffed quahogs were a blob of pasty dough with a few fragments of clams. The haddock sandwich was fresh and fried perfectly but the roll/fish ratio was way off. This is the kind of restaurant that you root for. We look forward to their lobster rolls in the summer. They are huge with fresh sweet lobster meat and just a touch of butter. Delicious! Really the best we've had as a family who have been everywhere in Massachusetts and RI during our 20 summers of cruising the coastline in our boat. Their steamers are to die for. Sweet, no sand ... I mean NO sand ... not even one grain! My only concern is that their soups are all cream containing. Why not have a healthy fish chowdah in a vegetable broth for the health conscious? Really enjoy this place. I am in love with their baked stuff salmon, the stuffing is unique to the area and very good. They have a special of fish tacos that is very enticing. Got the raw little necks once and they were fairly small, could have just been a bad batch, but that was the only problem we have had here. Chowder is good, a thick creamed chowder. They have a pretty good amount of non seafood items on the menu as well, which is great for some variety when you are not sure hat to get. read more

When you combine a seafood market with a restaurant, there's a good chance you'll get good fresh seafood in the dining room and that's the case with Cape Quality. While my son was a bit underwhelmed by what appeared to be prepared from a package crab cakes, the rest of our family meal was very enjoyable. We started with clam cakes which were crispy breaded and very tasty. My daughter leans more towards vegetarian meals, so she stuck with the home-made mac and cheese with a big thumbs up. Clam chowder was thick and creamy and very filling. Rather than pollock, cod, or haddock, I prefer fish and chips with a lighter fish like sole or flounder and even though fried sole wasn't on the menu, the chef gladly prepared the fish as I like it since it was available as a baked offering. My wife enjoyed stuffed shrimp she ordered and was enthusiastic about returning to Cape Quality to check out other menu items in the future. If not for the so/so crab cakes, this review would have been a total 5 star affair. read more
