For that, I was proud to be part of the upswelling to stand with businesses so that they could continue to provide for their families. Newport lobster made a huge effort to bridge the gap so that consumers could still access their seafood. I found out that Newport lobster was doing direct sale from a Facebook group I'm a part of and it just said to call them and tell them what you wanted and what sizes. After that you were to just drive up, and they would hand you your lobsters! I was thrilled and I came by two times with a check in hand to happily pay for my lunches and dinners that these lobsters would turn into. On my first purchase, I think the lobsters were about 9 to $10 a pound and I got two lobsters at about a pound and a quarter to a pound and a half. They were feisty and once cooked, were delicious and I couldn't wait to go back and get more. On my second trip I think they were both about a pound and a half and once again they cooked up delightfully and I enjoyed every bite. The team at Newport lobster were friendly and helpful and I felt like they took the social distancing seriously with sufficient protective equipment and distancing during orders. I hope that they are able to weather the storm on this pandemic so that they can bounce back when the industry does and continue to provide aquidneck restaurants with great seafood.

I don't think it gets more fresh than Newport Lobster Shack - this is literally run by the fisherman and right by the docs where they are catching this daily. What a treat! Our group of three opted for two lobster rolls, a side of fries, and then a twin lobster dinner. Holy wow - this was the best. Everything was so fresh and incredible. I would definitely pop in here for a meal if you're in the area - fresh lobster, great views, and easy parking.

Unfortunately, I was met with an absolutely atrocious attitude from the young lady who served me today. I asked for two whole filets of Arctic Char from the back cooler instead of the two in the front case. Why? Well, the real answer is that it doesn't matter why...I'm the customer paying nearly $60 for fish and if that's what I want, then the correct answer is a smile and a "no problem, let me go get that for you!" Instead, what I got was a look of utter contempt and an "I mean, what's the difference?" sarcastic reply with one palm raised up to emphasize just how ridiculous my request was. When she returned with the fish, I said "just FYI, all that should matter is that I'm the customer (paying top dollar for a premium product), maybe I'm just a bit OCD." Her response, again with that famous Gen-Z contempt, was "I mean, there's no difference, we just brought it (the fish in the case) out, but anyways, I got you your fish." She just didn't get it. The owner overheard everything and chimed in "all of our fish is fresh here, you don't need to worry about that." Yeah, I know that it's a good product, it's why I shop here, but if my unique brain feels better about having it brought out from the back cooler, why should that merit even a drop of bad attitude?! I told the owner, "I just shouldn't have to explain myself," he retorted "you didn't" and I told him "no, actually I did." So basically, I went in looking forward to a nice experience and left feeling really irritated. Sometimes when I'm passing through Westport, I stop by Westport Lobster Company. I always ask for my fish from the back...and all that I ever get is a smile and a "sure, no problem, let me get that for you." I prefer to spend money in my own town, but I'm not going back to this place and neither is my wife...We don't need to be rewarding rudeness with our hard-earned dollars.

We're not fishermen but it's a quirky shop with all the lures and tackle decorating the walls on one side; and the seafood on the other side. Marsh Meadows is a beautiful sight as well on this end of summer day - we counted at least a half-dozen snowy egrets nesting there. Gorgeous birds!

Seems they keep sea water pumped in from waters just off the point circulating through their tanks. Well that appears to keep the lobsters very happy. Just prepared a couple that I picked up today and they were unbelievable. So much so that I'm going back for more next week! Family run, very rustic shop full of character and a resident mascot named Olive who was super sweet. And if I ever have to mail order lobster again I know where I'm getting them from.
