We were referred by the hotel we were staying at during our wedding anniversary to give them a try. I didn't want to make the mistake of not making a reservation as my wife and I were both looking forward to some seafood Best decision ever! So good that we cancelled our reservation we had the next evening elsewhere and came right back. With that being said, let's get right into it. The hostess seated us at a beautiful corner table outside looking out to the ocean and the bridge entrance and skyline of New Bedford. The view was simply amazing. Our waitress Bri was, for lack of a better word? Awesome! She was friendly, patient attentive and made some of the best cocktails my wife and I had and no they weren't watered down like most places do but again, perfect in every way. Right amount of everything. Everything we ordered came hot, fresh and most of all delicious also a reason why we chose to visit a second time. The next visit we were blessed enough to have a table in the exact same location and and again everything was amazing. From our server Peyton, great great guy! The menu is almost intimidatingly vast when you include the specials, but to make things easier, you must get scallops. The fried combo is a fine choice with the aforementioned mollusk plus scrod. I was off regular chowder for a while due to my clear RI obsession but with the excellent Fathoms concoction I was happy to revisit the "regular" version. I've been in the mood for scallops for a while now and tonight was finally the night! I stopped by with my significant other and two friends and overall I was happy with our experience. The restaurant itself is on a little island and has waterfront seating even though it was too cold for us to sit outside. Our waitress was kind but not overly attentive. However, it didn't hinder our overall experience. We made a reservation and were sat immediately. The menu was large with many different options for cocktails, appetizers, pizza, sandwiches, and a variety of main courses. Most dishes are going to run you between $25-40. Everyone had the scallops tonight- I did the scallop and clams plate and my companions did some of the other scallop options. I was very happy with the scallops themselves- they were sweet and fried well. I wish there were more on the plate as I only had about 5-6 smaller scallops. The fries were great and nicely crispy. My only real complaint is the clams- they were not as crispy and a little on the blander side. For $33 I think the portion sizes could have been bigger as well. My friends all liked their dishes and I would definitely come back at another time to try some of their other dishes. read more

Indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of parking. Outdoor pavilion had a red canopy that made everything you are eating look red tinged, which you can see in my photos. They should reconsider that color. You can make reservations online. They accommodated a butter lobster roll vs mayo which was nice. Plenty of lobster meat and looked delicious. However, meat was on chewy said and made me feel it was not fresh as certain parts of the lobster should be soft. So I was not a fan of the roll but maybe would try more towards peak season in the summer. Took scallop risotto to go for the hubby and that was actually excellent. Large menu and service was great. We stopped in this weekend for a quick bite to eat and it's been years since I've been here. We chose to sit outside as it was a nice day. I was very disappointed with the mojito I ordered, it was pretty half ass as nothing was muddled and tasted bland. Not great when you're expecting something refreshing. We ordered a sushi roll and chicken & vodka sauce. Both were delicious. Our server seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but there. She didn't smile once and instead of asking if we wanted to look at a dessert menu she quickly smacked one on the table as she walked by. Lobster roll was so good and the coleslaw was perfect. I don't even like coleslaw but that was the best one if had near here. Had a reservation and was sat immediately. The waitress came by a few times and made sure we were doing good and checked if we needed anything. The pesto scallop pasta was fine, not amazing like the reviews had me think. But not bad, I think I just like cold seafood. ALSO I'm pregnant so I'm easily made nauseous by warm foo right now. Overall good experience and very private seating in the back. Random comment-- but the bathroom was really nice. Something about a place having a clean and nicely decorated bathroom gives me the best vibes. Fathom is a groovy place that merits a four-star rating. It could be a five star if it weren't for what is best described as a major peccadillo. I will reveal this peccadillo at the end of the review: It is a phun building that features a giant lobster (not a real lobster) on the roof. This is a great landmark and makes the joint easy to spot. The staff is friendly with young college-age girls as staff. They were all bright-eyed and bubbly. The bar area is kool with a glass-wave-art sculptural bar top. I like that. It shows they care enough to blow some big bucks to please the customer and make this joint real groovy. Our booth was kool but featured major duct-tape "repairs" to the upholstery which took it down a notch. I do hope they will fix this as it makes things ghetto to an otherwise fairly well-kept joint. Moey got Whole Belly Clams Fried with Fries. I got the Seafood Pladder with WBCs. Prices are decent and the Ice Teas were "only" two phiddy each and were refill. Our food was good and a very decent portion. The menu was fairly extensive with "the usual" seafood stuff and nonseafood stuff too. This joint features a great seafood market in (at) the restaurant. Live lobsters are cheaply priced (exactly on par with Demoulas) and they even have big lobsters up to five pounds plus. HUGE kudos for this and they steam 'em free (up to five pounds). The" water-view" is admittedly a bit janky as it is in an industrial area but has commercial fishing boats and has a draw bridge right next to it which we saw in action -very phun. Peep it out if you're in the hood. NOW for the major peccadillo: They do not make ONIONS RINGS! Hello? McFly? !!! O-rings are de rigueur for Seafood Pladders, aye? This is New England! Fathoms has the prettiest bar around! I love to go for cocktails or lunch outside on the deck. The only downside is it is certainly a place you need to like seafood as it is the majority of their menu! Other than that, I see nothing to point out! To the owner of Fathoms and All Customers, we just wanted to let you know that I called 2 days in advance to reserve a table for a party of 4 at Fathoms for 6pm !!! When we got there the hostess said it'll be about 20 minutes because they're just cleaning up a table. Then when 20 minutes past the hostess says the customers at the table are done but they're just hanging out, and talking amongst themselves, it'll be just a few more minutes. We basically waited an hour for a table that I made reservations for 2 days in advance. That's not normal !!! Obviously the staff dropped the ball and gave away our table that I reserved 2 days in advance !!! Instead of owning up to their mistake they just kept telling us it'll just be a few more minutes !!! Then an hour later when we finally got seated the waitress gave me this attitude vibe look on her face like I was the problem, not them !!! The waitress brought to the table 2 meals on 1 plate ! There were 2 MEALS on 1 PLATE. ! ! The meals were supposed to be on individual plates !!! I had to scrape my food off my own plate onto another plate so I could give my daughter her meal that the waitress brought over with both our meals on the same plate. Wtf ? ! Is this a joke? I can't believe the unpleasant experience my family had at Fathoms. Needless to say the Food sucked !!! That was my first time there and we'll never go back again. Another wonderful place for seafood here in Massachusetts. Located right next-door to a fishmarket and along the harbor, you couldn't get anything fresher unless you caught it yourself. The view of the harbor can be seen from the restaurant along with an unusual bridge that moves when boats come through to the harbor. Service is great and amazing place. Went today, Monday April 27, 2026. We have o there numerous times. Wait staff great, etc! Today, we had a young lady we haven't seen before. Pleasant, but seems like a newby! And, food was okay. Nothing exciting like usual. but, we usually come for the view. Anyway, I ordered a beer (cats meow), and my husband got a second (Flounder). I poured mine into the glass. After having a few, maybe half of the beer there was residue at the bottom of my glass. I brought it to the attention of the waitress, and she replied that it happened the other day. The main issue was that it was kind of run down, more so than I would've thought. Housed in the former building of radio station WBSM (transmission tower in the rear, still standing) This establishment is situated in the middle of the New Bedford harbor. It was a treat to watch the bridge open and let fishing vessels pass by. This establishment is fairly new to the area, serving fresh off of the boat seafood. There is a wide variety of options on the menu, from cod, haddock, swordfish, shrimp and scallops. Land lovers can find some beef options. My wife shared a few of her fried scallops that were lightly breaded. They had a slight sweetness to them and she opted for sweet potato fries. I had a Clam Chowder and the Swordfish Picatta with a lemon butter sauce. Asparagus was the preferred vegetable, but I had squash instead. The dish came with rice with bits of carrots . The chowder lacked potato and clams and slightly too much pepper for my liking. There were tiny bits of clams and potato but very little. Beverages are plenty, with my wife having unsweetened ice tea and I had a Miller Lite. I am now located in South Carolina, this was a treat to have fresh New England seafood. Seven of us, friends for 50 years, gathered here for a holiday lunch and gift swap. They were so accommodating, providing us with a back corner table adjacent to an extra table for the gifts. Our waitress, Kayla, took super care of us! Despite our staggered arrival times, we all had ice water and did not wait for our cocktail order to be taken. We were encouraged to take our time, which we did, despite it being a busy lunch hour. We did eventually eat lunch and everyone was beyond pleased with their meal choice. In all the merriment, I only photographed my own, which was the Scallop & Seaweed Salad. A generous portion of perfectly pan seared scallops adorned a bowl of wakame seaweed, tossed with sesame oil and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Each scallop had a spot of hot sauce on top. The seafood was fresh and the flavors worked well together. I truly enjoyed it and finished every bit. The other meals were equally enjoyed and plates cleaned in short time. We stayed about two hours, playing a game and exchanging gifts, Yankee Swap style. We made quite a bit of noise - and a bit of a mess. Kayla was encouraging, efficient, good humored and patient. First off, I'd like to say that the service was great! Our waitress was very helpful. The food on the other hand.....abysmal! I got the Lobster Mac, it was alright, it tasted like noodles swimming in milk and the lobster was severely over done. I was a trooper though, I pushed through. My wife on the other hand...she got the Stuffed Sole. She took one bite and was trying not to hurl! She said it tasted like soap. I've never seen her send a dish back...but she sent this one back. Ordered the Steak instead, ya can't mess up a steak right!? WRONG! Had the consistency of rubber, no seasoning, I took a bite and I can honestly say it was the worst bite of steak I've ever had.
