Pretty woman behind the counter had a nice smile. I saw a sign on the sidewalk that said clam cakes and chowder $5.99. You can't really beat that deal. So I went in and got it to go. I got the chowder cold so I could heat it up later. Clam cakes were fried so they came hot. I ate those as soon as I got home and they were delicious. You don't need to go to Ziggy's and Rhode Island. The chowder was Rhode Island style with the clear broth. So not creamy... It was pretty good but not great. At least it's lower in calories! Awesome customer service. Came here looking for fresh tuna so I can make poke. His shop does not carry tuna but told me where I can go to get some. Saw them frying up some fish and I decided to try the clam sandwich. The sandwich was ok. It was a bit greasy and soggy. I'm giving them 4 stars for their customer service. On our visit from California searched seafood near me. We were at battleship cove and Higson Seafood came up. The only not positive thing I can say is it's unfortunate they have no seating inside or out. But it's worth it to get your food to go and find someplace to eat it. Joe cooked all our food to order. Fish, shrimp, scallops, chicken fingers. French fries and excellent fresh battered and fried onion rings. Everything was fresh and delicious and the price and portions were more than fair. If your visiting or a local, I would highly recomend Higson Seafood. I will not deduct anything because they have no seating because Joe expressed his desire for some kind of seating, but the city will not allow it. Hope that changes in the future. read more

This place has a long history and they're famous for serving up some of the tastiest fish and chips in Fall River, MA. My sweetheart went to a Catholic all-girls school, Dominican Academy, just around the corner for 12 years and she has some great stories about all those Fridays and those fish and chips. Of course, it was a mainstay Friday event for us and then our kids over the years and I gotta tell ya', I miss it sometimes. They are unique as they use pollock fish, which is in their original recipe and serve it with fries or onion rings plus they have a fish dinner that feeds four. It's only available for takeout and you get a lovely grease-stained paper bag. Mouthwatering! Gotta love fresh fried seafood prepared right in front of you, I get that here at Blalock's. Their breading is light and airy despite the greasy bag LOL. This is not a dine-in restaurant, most of the space is retail seafood on display, with about 1/3 of the space being used for fried seafood cook while you wait. French fries wrapped separately from seafood plate items. Also a big deal for me, the seafood platter portions are very generous compared to others around and the prices are reasonable too. They also have some stuffed quahogs nice deals lobster and lobster rolls with other interesting weekly specials. Nice. As for the seafood well they have all my New England favorites, lobster, clams, bay and dry scallops, swordfish, quahogs, cod and more. The oil was hot and fresh which in turn meant the scallops and fish were cooked just right. Scallops were absolutely perfect, fish batter was light and fish was fried perfectly. Fries were surprisingly good for what they are, the girls are spot on in their fry game! Now the trick to enjoy the take out to the max. Be prepared to eat right there in your car. If you walk out the store, go straight to your car and start munching you will 100% enjoy every Pennie's worth of this meal. Bring a lemon with you and your favorite sauce along w/ a cold beer and I guarantee the food if eaten immediately will be hot and crispy. The longer you take to get it out of the paper and into your mouth the soggier your experience. You have been warned. It's a 5 star for what it is if the staff is on their game, price was good relative to the market and the main ingredients are fresh! Portions are an excellent size and value. I've been here a handful of times, usually for fresh seafood to take home and cook, but the last time I went was for fish and chips. The fresh seafood experiences have been worth 4 stars, whereas the prepared food was only 2 stars, so I'm splitting the difference. I find prices to be very reasonable and they almost always have what I need at any time of year, which is a big plus. Service is also fine. The neighborhood is a bit dicey, but convenient. Street parking is usually not a problem. I have heard of people coming from out of the city for Higson's fish and chips, so I figured it was a sure thing. The fries were fine and the onion rings were okay, but the fish was really heavily breaded and, therefore, soggy after being wrapped and bagged up. It really upset my tummy. I will likely return for the fresh seafood selection, the fair prices, and probably to try the crab cakes, but I'll have to look elsewhere for fish and chips. Also worth a mention - When I went for the prepared food, it was a Friday evening (not during Lent, though) and was really, really busy. I was there a little over half an hour. That is no easy task, as just about every restaurant in the area sells fried clams and fish and chips. I got the fried seafood platter for $16.99, which includes piles of juicy, fresh fried clams, sweet and perfectly cooked fried SEA SCALLOPS (none of those rubbery, tasteless frozen bay scallops), butterflied shrimp and fried fish. The french fries were mediocre, but all of the seafood was DELICIOUS! I got some cole slaw as well, which was terrific. Higson's is just a fish market, and if you want atmosphere (or a table) don't come here. You get a great portion of fish and fries and the food is really good. I'll be back later in Lent for some fried shrimp and scallops.
