As homeowners we don't know how to deal with them and they take advantage of us. I worked with Sterling exteriors. The rep came out circled the hail damage and came out and walked through the damage with the inspector. He acted as my advocate and I ended up getting new siding and gutters. They just finished the work this week and it looks great. With no out of pocket cost and the rep actually added trim and a few other items on their own. The rep you deal with makes a difference. I worked with Mike O'Brien at 847-703-0299. He was great. Mike kept me updated the whole way through the process. My experience with Mike was exceptional.

I had Sterling Exteriors out to quote on some soffit work that I needed done. They came in…read moremid-September but told me to wait until the end of October to book anything because it would be less expensive. So I waited until the end of October and called. I was told that they were already closing down for the winter but that they had a guy that they worked with who would honor their quotes and do the work. They came back, did a quote, and took pictures to share with their guy. A few days later their referral came out and measured everything. Sterling Exteriors then confirmed what day their guy was going to be coming out. I arranged the financing on my own and had them back out to sign the paperwork and give the the deposit check. When I was giving the deposit check I was told that at that very moment, their guy was out buying the supplies. We were all ready to do. 10 minutes later Sterling Exteriors called back and said that there guy wasn't going to be able to do it because of "a number of issues, but mainly manpower". So they had provided pictures to their guy, confirmed the start date, were in the process of purchasing the required materials, and had a signed work order and deposit. And all of a sudden the guy who was all ready to go couldn't do it. So I said that Sterling needed to do it themselves, but was told no, they were closed for the year and that there was nothing that could be done. It's plainly obvious that Sterling Exteriors under quoted the work and that neither their referral nor Sterling Exteriors themselves would honor the pricing I was given, and that I was being given the run around as to the reason why. When I confronted Sterling Exteriors about this they stopped replying altogether. Very shady business that won't honor their own pricing even after the contract was signed.

In August 2025 a hailstorm caused significant damage to the exterior of my house. I ended up having…read moreto replace the roof, the siding, the gutters and downspout, the garage doors and a number of additional items. Thank God, that with the exception of my deductible, it was all covered and paid for by my insurance company, USAA. After meeting with several contractors and doing my due diligence I decided the best company to do the work on my house was Suburban Customer Builders. And in retrospect I am so glad I chose them as they were great to work with and did a truly exceptional job on my house. My friends and neighbors say that it looks like a brand new house rather than one that is almost 40 years old. While there were a number of factors that set Suburban Custom Builders apart from the other contractors I considered, I think the deciding factor for me was the quality of the materials they would be using were far superior to what the other contractors were offering at the price approved by my insurance company. For example, Suburban Customer Builders replaced my roof with level 4 rated high impact shingles that offer much greater protection from hail and wind damage than standard shingles which is what the other contractors said they would be using. As an added bonus most insurance companies offer a premium discount for installing this type of roof because of the added protection it offers against hail and wind damage. Personally, after the installation of my new roof, USAA significantly reduced the premiums on my homeowner's policy. In conducting their inspection of my house, which took place after an inspection had already been performed by an adjuster from my insurance company, Suburban Custom Home Builders found items that they felt that USAA should be covering but weren't, most notably the need to install new skylights, so they send in documentation to support their contention that these additional items should be covered and paid for and after reviewing the documentation USAA agreed and allocated funds to cover the installation of new skylights and the other items Suburban Custom Builders had requested coverage for. The project manager for the work done on my house was Tammy Harrison and she was great. She was very personable and easy to work and was also very knowledgeable and extremely diligent in ensuring t the work done on my house was done in a timely and efficient manner. She oversaw the entire process from start (helping me pick out colors for the roof and siding) to the finish (when Suburban Custom Builders sent in the final paperwork to my insurer, USAA, showing that all work they authorized had been completed). The various crews that worked on my house arrived on time, did their work in a professional manner and cleaned up after themselves when they were finished. Tammy reviewed their work to make sure that it met the high standards both she and Suburban Custom Builders set and in several instances had them comeback to make a few minor changes she thought needed to be made that I never would have ever noticed. I guess in summary I would say that I am very happy that I chose Suburban Custom Builders to do the work on my house, was very satisfied with the work done and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs work done on the exterior of their house. I would strongly recommend that if you had any storm damage or think that you might have any storm damage that you contact Tammy Harrison of Suburban Custom Builders at 1-847-529-8049 and she will arrange for them to come out and do a free inspection of your home. If damage is found they will work with you and your insurance company , like they did with me, to get the work needed covered and then will do the work in a timely and efficient manner using high quality marterials.

Mike then wrote a full report for me, with pictures, to submit. Solar company rep came out, Mike even took the time to come and meet him at the same time. Solar company admitted fault and will now repair my roof at no charge to me. Mike didn't even get the job, which I'm a little saddened by, because the solar company is going to do it, but his professionalism and going above and beyond saved me about $8k and at a time when I'm trying to sell my house. They installed a roof on the new porch and although Charlie said he could match the new roof with…read morethe existing roof, they left a large obvious hump instead of a smooth transition. We also had them put gutters up in front and on our pole barn. The front gutters seemed to be installed correctly but the pole barn gutters were installed improperly and fell to the ground with the first snow storm. We asked Charlie to fix/reinstall the gutters since his employees did not properly secure it. Charlie stated he would fix it so as installed properly. Then we received a contract to pay for wood to install the gutters and were told he would not fix it unless we signed the blank estimate. There wasn't an amount on it, so we told him we wanted to know the extra charge (we didn't feel we should have been charged anything, but would be willing to pay for extra material if that's what we needed). Charlie then stated he needed to charge for more labor costs and materials, and said he has to "take care of his boys" and said he would charge us to reinstall it properly (as if it was a new project). He refused to fix the issue his employees caused and now we're out the money we originally paid to have gutters put up and have to pay someone else to do the job correctly. We do not recommend them and wish we'd read the Yelp reviews when the contractor (who built the porch) recommended Charlie Copely.
