Not their best service. Our family had a very mixed experience with Capital Caring Health. On the positive side, many of the nurses were wonderful--kind, gentle, and compassionate. The facility itself is lovely and peaceful, which is important during such a difficult time. However, our overall experience was deeply affected by the behavior of one staff member, Shannon Connors. We are a large family, and after feeling pushed into moving our mother to this facility, we hoped for understanding and compassion. Instead, Shannon Connors was disrespectful and rude toward our mother and toward my siblings who were visiting. Her loud, inconsiderate behavior added unnecessary stress and pain during our mother's final days. Her lack of communication skills and apparent inability to interact sensitively with a grieving family made an already heartbreaking situation much worse. Rather than feeling supported, we felt sadness and anger because of how we were treated. We loved our mother deeply, and those last days should have been handled with care, dignity, and compassion. I sincerely hope no other family has to experience this lack of compassion during such a vulnerable time. read more

My father required Hospice care and the entire staff at Adler, in my case, were a Godsend and felt like an answer to a prayer. They cared and comforted him at their facility for the final five days of his life and I cannot overstate my gratitude and admiration for everyone there. The rooms are large and private and if not for the hospital bed, look more like a bedroom allowing for personal items such as pictures and even playing music. I have no words adequate enough for this experience. As a nurse I expect a lot in healthcare. Deciding to take this route for my mom was a sad and overwhelming decision but as soon as I walked in here I felt relief and a feeling of peace. They have bathed my mom daily and turn and reposition her every two hours. This was not getting done as it should have in the hospital which was disappointing to me. The nurses and nursing assistants here work as a team and it shows. They treat my mom like she is one of their own. Dr. Goldblatt is wonderful and sweet. They don't mess around here when it comes to pain management either. This is the most comfortable I have seen my mom in over 3 years. There was even a recital where local folks played music for us in the lobby. It was a beautiful distraction. I have a lot more things to say about this place but am having a hard time finding words that are good enough. One thing that could be improved are the sleeping arrangements for guests. The chair/bed combo has a weird bump in it. However I am not taking away a star for that! The nursing assistant made it up for me and I am pretty sure I slept anyway. My father began hospice care with Capital Caring in early May. We were so grateful for the support to the care we provided him at home. When it was his time and we could no longer care for him adaquately at home, he went to the Adler Center. Not only is the Adler Center beautiful, the care my father received there was nothing short of outstanding. Our entire family was treated with such respect and kindess as we prepared for and went through losing my father. Seeing him so tenderly cared for and allowed his dignity right to the end made the loss a little easier. The entire staff, techs, nurses, doctors and administrators were all so kind, capable and competent. I offer my sincere thanks and that of my family in return. read more

My mom passed away yesterday from kidney disease, but I'm glad she was able to spend her last few days at the Adler Center. We were nervous about the quality and quantity of care she would receive, but our fears were laid to rest once we met the staff and saw the facility. The rooms are spacious and included a walkout patio that opened into a wonderful garden filled with flowers, trees, and nature. The ratio of caregivers to patients is higher than it is in most hospitals, and patients are allowed to sleep peacefully through the evening without being awoken by blood pressure cuffs, beeping monitors, etc. as is in the case in a typical hospital environment (although staff discretely checked in on her throughout the evening to make sure she was doing fine). Most importantly, the staff and volunteers seem genuinely devoted to patient care in a manner that went above and beyond our expectations. If your loved one is offered the option to be admitted to the Adler Center, I highly recommend it. It is a peaceful, caring, and attractive environment for your loved ones to pass away with dignity, peace, and affection. read more

My mother-in-law was moved to the Adler Center at the very end stages of her lung cancer. The room was spacious with lots of room for visitors to sit around and spend time with her. There was a balcony in her room with a nice view. At the end of the hall, is a family/visitor seating area in sort of a solarium type space full of chairs/couches and lots of windows. In the front of the building are more family/visitor seating areas where you can relax and talk away from your loved one's room. There is also a full kitchen there were families/friends can make meals for themselves or special meals for their loved ones. There's plenty of seating in that area. My mother-in-law was only there for a few days until she passed. The staff was awesome. So very caring and friendly. She was pretty mentally alert the first couple days and they knew that she wanted coffee each morning. They treated her well. When she passed, they were so caring and professional. I mean, it was such a great experience considering the circumstances. I feel badly for the families posting here saying that it's an awful place - I am not trying to discredit their reviews, but our experience was very positive and the families we saw there were all happy with their experience as well. Also, be sure to read the "filtered" reviews (scroll to the bottom of all the reviews and click on "1 other review that is not currently recommended") to see another 5-star review. Today, we lost my father-in-law and I couldn't image a better place and service for this day than at Adler Center by Captial Caring. CC has the best Nurses, CNA's and Doctors. They really care and were so wonderful working with him before his passing and also our needs as a family. The facility is beautiful and has the beast ambiance. Before moving him to Adler Center, he was with Captial Caring and their service was also top notch. After being with another Hopsice company, I believe in and trust Captial Caring. We chose Capital Caring over many other hospice service providers for my 85 yo mother for home based care. What a great mistake I have committed for a person who does not have much time! I was given a host of promises but almost none of them have been fulfilled! Barring one good nurse none have been satisfactory and the people answering the calls are downright rude. The only positive thing I have witnessed so far is the setting up of the equipment and one nurse had been good but beyond that it's a pathetic set up. They are almost closed for all regular activities on the weekend and had to beg them to send someone for help during this weekend for which I am still waiting! Don't ever fall in this trap if you ever need a hospice care giver! They more appropriately should call themselves 'Capital CareLess'! read more

Adler was exceptional! My sister was admitted to this hospice and everyone who treated her or tended to her were all so gentle and caring. They were soft spoken and tender. I wouldn't leave my sister's side and they were very sweet about my having brought in an air mattress so I wouldn't be away from her. I didn't want her last moment to feel as though she were alone. They're concern for the family members who are struggling through this is amazing. We had so many visitors coming to spend time with her and the staff were all fantastic. The place is beautiful, each room has French doors which open to a nice patio and there is plenty of space for visitors. It is an excellent facility for your loved ones at this juncture of their life. To spend what remains of their time in a beautiful and tranquil environment and surrounded by a great staff. read more

My father is receiving care here to the extent I didn't know existed. This Hospice is not only a beautiful structure but the staff truly completes this utopia. The group of professionals give care and kindness I've never experienced. My father recently passed away here. This is a state-of-the-art modern facility with an excellent nursing staff. The rooms are very large with great amenities and the grounds are well-kept and nicely arranged. The staff treated my father very tenderly. My mom was moved here from Fairfax Hospital hospice in December. The staff at the Adler Center was very caring during her last few days and supportive of our family as well. Her medications were given on time and we were never told they would " be right back" which we had gotten used to hearing in the hospital. They were respectful and not constantly coming in to poke or prod her. The nurses and aides explained everything and answered all my questions without complaint. Our goal was to keep mom comfortable, surrounded by those she loved and allow her to die with the dignity she deserved. The Adler Center staff acheived that hands down. read more

I don't recommend even to my enemy to stay there. They think, the family is ready for their loved one to die. So they will let them die ASAP possible. My husband was in critical condition and suffering with cancer for a few months. His doctor in the hospital told us to give him pain medicine "as needed". At Capital Caring hospice, the nurse practitioner ordered a kind of pain injection which would put him to sleep and if he was up, he would have kind of seizure. I told her not to order that medicine anymore. But she wouldn't listen to me and ordered the same medicine. Sometimes my husband didn't have pain and still nurse would give him medicine. I told them a few times he doesn't have pain why you keep injecting him. Several times I stopped them to inject him. One day I went to work. An hour later, the nurse called me and said "he died". She said he needed medicine and they gave him that medicine(injection) even though I told them not to give him anything until I come back. They did that behind my back, because if I was there, most probably I wouldn't let them to do that. She said Medicare doesn't pay, if he stay here more ten days. I said "I will pay for it" or I will take him home. It was my mistake and should have brought him home instead of hospice. I know my husband was in critical condition but he could live longer. That's my experience with this hospice. This isn't what I was told about hospice. I heard, they keep him comfortable until die naturally as opposed to inject him and put him to sleep forever. I just wanted to let you know and make a right decision for your loved one. read more

My mother was transferred to home hospice care from San Diego and the folks from Capital Caring made sure her transition was smooth and comfortable. Dr. Anne made sure my mom had the right medications to make her feel as comfortable as possible. Nurses Tracey and Amy were always so lovely and caring when they came to our home for their weekly visits. Sharon Cromwell provided home acupuncture visits that really helped my mom relax from muscle tension caused by her COPD anxiety. Their grief counseling is available for a year after my mom's passing. It is such a blessing to have this as a resource. I can't recommend them enough for their kindness and compassion during end-of-life care. Truly angels... every single one of them. If you look at the rooms and setting you think you've found the perfect place for palliatiave care. Almost feels as though you have a private summer bungalow somewhere ... Beautiful, spacious rooms, a quiet meditation center, etc. As for care, they have a couple of good doctors. But as for response rate, just because there's a buzzer, doesn't mean they come when called for your needs. They come to tell you they will be with you shortly. On two instances when pain was terrible I waited 50 minutes, then an hour and ten minutes before I got relief. Evening shift seems the worst. They spend a good amount of time letting you know about their shift change so hopefully your request will fit in with their change, meetings, all which take place somewhere in the 6::30-9:00 range, They don't seem appraised very well of each patient's condition so each asks the same questions even when they see you multiple shifts. They don't have a sense of professionalism or loyalty maybe because they're so new and will point fingers at techs who have "forgotten" to tell nurses a patient needs pain meds or other basic needs. There's no real hospital food per se but fortunately Harris Teeter is there. It's fine if you're there for a short period of time and not critical care. I'm hoping to be set up at home hospice sooner than later. read more

This place is shady.would not accept Hsa card to pay for a physical. Said I have to pay out of pocket. Isn't an hsa account coming out of my pocket? What the hell!will. It be going there again and do not recommend it for your dot physical.I am only giving it one star because it would not let me leave it zero stars. read more

Capital Caring was a blessing for my father and our family. From the moment we took my dad there I felt at peace. The Adler Center is absolutely beautiful and their staff is superb. Each and every person we met went out of their way to make my dad and all of us feel comfortable and at peace during the hardest moment of our lives. The nurses were very loving and gentle with their care towards my father. The doctors were amazing and made sure our dad was comfortable until the end. They also have great resources to help the family cope with the loss and all other arrangements. Jennifer the social workers was very sweet and very helpful. We had the opportunity to work with their volunteer lawyer Tony and he was amazing. I cannot put into words what a blessing the Adler Center was to our family and we are very thankful that our dad passed away so peacefully and in the care of such an amazing group. My father spent the last 2 weeks of his life at the Adler Center and I can not say enough about all the nurses, doctors, aides and volunteers. My dad had pancreatic cancer and declined very fast. The staff went above and beyond to make sure he was ok and the family were ok. I was kept up to date on all his med changes and the stages he was going through. The night that he died, the nurse was nothing but sympathic with me. I hope none of my friends and family have to use hospice but if they do, I would send them here in a heartbeat. I normally don't leave reviews but I feel I must for this...my husband was only there 4 days before he passed away from terminal cancer. The hospital wanted to send him home to die because he was refusing "hospice"...I am so fortunate that my friend works for Capital Caring and told me about this place. He literally thought I had checked him into a hotel, it definitely does not look like the hospital that he had spent 18 months in/out of. The staff was very attentive to his needs but also gave you the privacy to be with your loved one to say goodbye. His first two days he was awake and alert and very happy to be there (he still refused to believe he was dying...he was only 54)..he was allowed all the visitors he wanted and his room opened up onto a patio..since he loved the son he loved this idea, though he never got to experience it. He was given a morphine pump (his request because he was in so much pain). The staff kept me up-to-date on what was happening, they provided a counselor for the family to answer any questions and they follow up with you for a year afterwards. He asked one of the nurses for a special meal...she made it for him and gave it to him the next day. It has now been over 2 years since I used them, I cannot imagine it is as bad as some of these reviews indicate. I would highly suggest you go take a tour of the place...yes you will probably see families crying and walking around, but they are there because their loved one is on their final days. This whole process you will go thru is the hardest on the living, trust me, I know. We live over an hour away on his last day/night the nurse called me every couple hours with updates as to what was happening and told me appx. how long I had probably until he passed. I had just left and walked in the door to home when they called and said he would probably pass within the hour...I knew I couldn't get back there in that time, she said no worries, I will sit with him so he is not alone and we will call you back. It was less than an hour when I received the call. It takes a very special type of person to work in one of these facilities, be kind to them, after all, they are the ones helping your loved one thru this phase of their life. read more
