I was invited to an event "Turntables on Town Lake" that was a final goodbye to my good friend. The cruise was handled by Capital Cruises. We had an amazing time on the boat. The food was absolutely delicious! The desserts were beyond yummy and the drinks were amazing. At night the water looks absolutely beautiful. Minus the cold freezing weather (the boat should have had more heater lamps on it) I enjoyed my boat ride. I just wish I could have enjoyed the top deck more but it was so cold outside that I just stayed on the inside of the boat which wasn't a bad thing since I could hear the DJ very well. Went paddle boarding through this company. They honored the check in offer for both my boyfriend and me even though I was the only one with the yelp account! No complaints there. They gave us a quick run down on the technique and let us run free. They told us it was fine if we went over our hour time limit since we went on a slow day! I was the local chair for a small scientific meeting that would draw attendees from across the U.S. as well as across the pond. The meeting banquet is typically 'fancy' but I knew people don't come to Austin for 'fancy' -- they come for bats, beer and BBQ! So a dinner cruise on Lady Bird Lake was the perfect idea. Inspired by a visit from an out-of-town friend, I went on my first bat cruise last October. I'm not sure which one of us enjoyed it more! The weather was perfect (light sweaters required), the sunset was gorgeous, and, oh, yeah, the bats were pretty freaking cool too. We participated in the sunset bat cruise. It was about an hour experience. Get there plenty early! We got there 30 mins prior to the tour and there was already a long line to check in. Once we made it through the check in line, there weren't a lot of great seats left - so we were stuck in the back in chairs that faced sideways. The silver lining is we were close to our guide! Our guide was really good and filled with lots of fun facts about Lady Bird Lake, the graffiti on the bridges, and the bats. I was a little disappointed in the bats - but that may have been due to the weather (windy). The bats didn't come out all at once or go over our heads. They sort of steadily streamed from under the bridge and over to the tree line where they were tough to see. Regardless, we had a really nice time and enjoyed the cruise and the sunset views! A nice ride on the lake, but the smells were not pleasant. The facts about the city of Austin were entertaining and informational. The benefit of being on a boat to see the bats is they take you right under the bridge so you're up close, but also in the line of fire (from the bats as well as all the people standing on the bridge). Parking is $10 at the Hyatt. We did the bat tour. They want you to arrive 20 minutes early, it can get a little boring sitting waiting on the boat until they roll out. There are a ton of bugs hovering around you. Best thing would be to just sit on the Hyatt patio and have drinks (really good vodka mule) until they are ready to go. No bad seats on the boat. Open top, moves slow so don't think you'll get sea sick. Our guide was great. Tickets were cheap so tipped him $10. Took about 1 hour and 15 minutes for the whole thing. I liked it, the bugs and the wait were the 2 annoying things. read more

I have tried 3 different times to paddleboard here and have never actually made it out. Each attempt I have called to find out the latest time we can go out [since we work, like most people, and have to go after we get off] and have been given a time. We have alawys come at least 15 minutes before that time and were turned away all 3 attempts because they had to prepare for the cruise, they were the only one there, etc. - a different reason each time. Not to mention you have to stand at the info sign forever and no one comes out to help you. Extremely disappointing and we have taken our business to the rowing docks just down the trail. read more

It was fun. I went with my parents and in laws. They had a relaxing afternoon. Austin downtown skyline view was splendid from the boat. I gave 4 stars beacuse the boat had a technical glitch on its way back. And we were stuck on a shallow side of the lake for about 20 mins before they could send another boat to rescue us. Luckily we did not have a time crunch. We were delayed by an hour or so. But overall we enjoyed it. read more

Loved the Fourth of July Fireworks Cruise! I was concerned that it might be lame, but the Captain (Georgia) was charming and really knew all about the bats and other lake facts. It was a "two-fer" cruise, cause we got to see bats and fireworks! We were told we could BYOB and small coolers. I'm glad we did, because we were able to toast each other with champagne. It wasn't cheap -- $30/person... .but the value was there, especially when I saw the sign to rent the waterbikes at $60/pop. Yes, the chairs are flimsy but I wasn't expecting a yacht. We were on the water, the breeze was great, and it was delightfully charming. Parking is easy at the Hyatt, but be aware that arriving is much quicker than leaving. read more

Awesome Fun!!!! Fun facts about Austin that I did not know and I was born and raised here off and on for 27 yrs.

We had some friends in town from Houston and wanted to show them the Awesome Austin bats. We booked their 16 ft electric personal boat on Wednesday for a Saturday night. I have seen the bats 4 or 5 times before but nothing like this. It was a terrific view! The boat was very easy to drive and both of our families had a great time. We brought a cooler and Explored Lady bird lake for an hour and a half before sunset. The view of the bats was awesome and the boat was very cool to be on. It had a kick ass stereo to plug in your iPhone to listen to your tunes. You literally get to pick your vantage point when the bats come out. The guys on the doc were super friendly and gave great pointers on where to go. When we came back after the bats, the guys were very helpful in helping us de-board and clean up. I would highly recommend using their personal boats if you want to see the bats! Cost was very reasonable too. read more

This was a great trip! We went to the Bat Cruise and our "Captain" and tour guide was Georgia. She was able to relate a tremendous amount of info about the bats, native wildlife, downtown skyline, music festivals with humor and obvious research! We went west first to see the sunset and the returned to Congress Bridge and saw the small line of space the bats live in then we went past the bridge to turn around for a spectacular view of the skyline lit up for the evening. We came back as the bats were coming out for their evening hunt! Georgia and the cruise made for a wonderful laid back event for the evening! read more

Yet another rave review for Capital Cruises. We hosted the rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding this past weekend. As others have all said - it was a wonderful experience. The contract was clear, prices were very reasonable, all communication was accurate with a quick response. Our captain and bartender were knowledgeable, professional, very friendly and accommodating to hosts and all guests. The downtown night view was fabulous, and our captain positioned the boat to provide a great backdrop for memorable photos. Hyatt fajitas were great and very generous. However, the greatest feature on this chilly November night was the fire pit on the rooftop!!! Most of the wedding party relaxed around the fire as we enjoyed the skyline.
