I'm a patient with a number of different GI issues, the most debilitating being Ulcerative Colitis. I made a very difficult move to the area in January 2011 and received treatment by a doctor from another practice from Jan until late September 2011. In those 8 months, my condition flared over and over and went from bad to worse until the point where I had to call another doctor in an emergency to request some Prednisone (just to avoid a hospital visit). Soon after that, I found Dr. Jessica Korman at Metropolitan Gastroenterology Group. I began my treatment with her last fall and write this review today having seen my symtoms gradually improve to the point where I feel and can live normally again. She is hands-down the best GI I've ever worked with. She always listens to my concerns, provides the best care possible, and is always immediately accesible through email (she also happens to be the most tech-savvy doctor I've ever met). Words (or this review) cannot describe how grateful I am to her and I hope she understands that she is the sole reason my disease didn't throw my life back down the toilet (small pun intended). On a personal level, she is funny, caring and goes above and beyond, not just to treat GI symtoms but also personally invests herself in the well-being of her patients. I've never had long waits in her office or felt rushed in any way during my visits. In many ways, I end up feeling like my doctor is a much younger, hipper version of my mother... someone who isn't there just to write you an Rx and send you on your way, but who genuinely works everyday to help people. Her wonderful practice is matched by her staff as well... anytime I go in, I can expect smiles, warm greetings and a sense of humor from some of the funniest nurses I've ever met (ask for Gala in the Bethesda office... I've never felt so ill going in for treatment and laughed-out-loud so much during it). I really can't say enough great things about Dr. Jessica Korman and her staff, but hopefully this review will be enough to give others an idea of how she's changed my life for the better. I'm sorry to have to give this negative review. My doctor, Julio Salcedo, is great--takes time, listens, explains, and answers questions. HOWEVER, their phone system customer service and follow-up are the worst I've ever experienced. I have NEVER been able to request that Dr Salcedo call me again or even speak to someone at the K St office. Everything is through their phone bank-type system. Dr Salcedo called my on 6/19 to discuss blood work results, and said I would get a call yesterday, 6/22, to schedule an endoscopy. As I type this, I've been on hold for 25 MINUTES! How do they justify such horrible response time? read more

I have developed a rapport with Dr. Bolen. He answers email promptly and will "fit me in" when needed. He is systematic and knowledgeable. I have found the front office staff to be welcoming and prompt. I appreciate the visit summaries at the end of the visit. read more

I don't have any complaints about the medical care, but could never get anyone to tell me about my test results. I spent 3 months calling and leaving messages and got no response at all. When I couldn't get anyone to talk to me on the phone, I finally asked them to just mail me the results, but they didn't follow through on that either. I finally had to ask my primary care physician to request the results and pass them along to me. They were attentive enough when it was determined I needed a medical procedure that they could bill for, but providing results (the part the patient cares about) doesn't seem to interest them. read more

The conclusion of this long story is that they canceled an appointment. I was in so much pain, I went to see another doctor who, after the first visit, had done more than CD had in the 4-5 visits to help me manage my pain discomfort. One Medical always refers people here. That's how I found it. Even if you're a patient it is impossible to get an appointment in less than three weeks. So, after 10 days of intense abdominal pain stemming from what, after 4-5 visits, they told me was simple IBS-C, I was thrilled to get an appointment 8 days later at 9AM. I was so thrilled that I canceled a meeting in NYC. The day of, the redline was running late (no surprises there) and I ended up getting off the metro at 9:10 am and LITERALLY jogged to the office. I arrive at 9:13 panting and sweating, signed-in, took a seat and about 5-10 minutes later was called to the front for paperwork. Filled out the paperwork and at 9:32 they called me back. The doctor, clearly unaware it was me she was referencing, started having a LEGIT meltdown about my 13-minute tardiness. (Yep, it wasn't lost on me that if 13 minutes of lateness could shake her to the very essence of her core, perhaps I should be worried.). Anyhoo, the nurse advised me the doctor was "backed up" and told me to reschedule (which is like asking someone to reschedule a trip to the moon). Ugh! Like, you could not have departed that little piece of information on me when I walked in. Oh, and what makes the "backed-up" story more interesting, the waiting room was completely empty and not even a single patient came in while I was there. Nonetheless, I walked out to a symphony of snickers from the front desk staff and while I am a 40 something year-old attorney, I called my father in tears because I could not imagine being in that level of pain for another two weeks. Before you judge me, he is a surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and was able to get me in with another specialist in 15 minutes. If you have ever been to HSS, they are like the best of the best and even they give patients a 15 minute grace period to deal with unforeseen events like traffic, metro issues, etc. And, here is where it got interesting....I had been in debilitating pain for almost a year, and consistently for the last two weeks. He was shocked that all CD had done for me was to give me increasing aggressively anti-constipation meds. (If I am honest, they were also really mean to me and treated me as if I was wasting their time). He gave me a regime for 30 days to see if it improved my quality of life. He also scheduled a series of tests and said, "For future reference, IBS is a condition of exclusion. If a physician doesn't do any tests, they cannot exclude it. They are just guessing." So you know it's not just me.. My friend also went to CD, was told it was IBS and, after going elsewhere, she was diagnosed with Crohns. I knew this, but kept going to them on One Medical's recommendation. Regardless, the bottom line on this place is this - They probably have great cancer surgeons (from others' experiences), but this is not your best bet for managing long-term health issues. read more

This is a GI Issue factory. They take very little time to deal with the person. Appointments are short, clinical, and no one is willing to look beyond the literal diagnosis. I asked my GI if my symptoms were related to the disease she diagnosed me with and the answer was "I don't know". I would think if you are required for the diagnosis... You would have an idea of where to send people for answers related to the illness... even if it is not your specialty. Doctor's should really know if you have A... you might want to see someone about B. read more

Very disappointing experience with Dr. Dominique Howard. Scary!! She can order tests, that's about it. No diagnosis, just kept throwing pharmaceuticals at me. I was shocked first meeting her at how disengaged and basically rude this doctor is. I don't need a doc to be friendly if they are paying attention to my case, and boy, this one isn't and doesn't. Came home from first appointment & immediately made an appointment with someone else, which means 2-3 month wait. Went back to see her only because I was so sick. She wasn't just having a bad day at my first appointment, just got worse. Everything's awful. Waiting room's shabby, front desk are cadets, nurses were uniformly awful, long, long wait every time in lobby, then again 1+ hours in exam room. Gave thanks for all my other health providers who aren't like this. read more

If I had to think of one word to describe this practice, it would be fraudulent. I had a series of expensive tests done, only for the doctor to never return my phone calls requesting to discuss the results. That can only be done in person, for an additional copay. I was upset about the service I was receiving from the staff and ultimately decided I didn't trust the doctor to perform a scheduled endoscopy, so I called to cancel the procedure 6 days in advance. Oh, apparently there is a $150 charge if you don't cancel 7 days in advance. This, conveniently, wasn't mentioned to me when I booked the appointment. Now I'm hoping against the odds that these crooks will actually fax over my medical records and test results to a different medical practice. read more

I was scheduled for a procedure and got incorrect information on what to do for the procedure from them. On the day of the procedure, it was discovered that the information I followed which they provided was incorrect as such the procedure could not occur. I provided proof of the information to them. They acknowledged it was from them and acknowledged it was incorrect. A simple apology would have sufficed but they tried to say it was my fault for following the instructions they provided. Anyway, communication broke down with the doctor. It was sad to see the doctor trying to convince me it was my fault even though she acknowledged that the information I received was from them and was incorrect. Basically arrogance and stupidity on full display. I lost faith in the doctor and I decided that I did not trust this person operating on me when I am under anesthesia. I felt like I dodged a bullet. This is the first time I have ever written a Yelp review. My experience with Capital Digestive Care, Dr. Weinstein, and his staff was so off-putting that I literally came home and signed up for Yelp just to leave a negative review. Without boring anyone with too many details...Dr. Weinstein was arrogant, dismissive and generally uninterested the entire appointment. Its like he couldnt get me out the door fast enough. I have been to a lot of doctors and there is no worse feeling than when you arent being treated like you matter. I felt talked down too and minimized the entire time. The staff was a reflection of the doctor. They were cold and unhelpful. I would NEVER go back again. NEVER. I cant stress this enough. read more

This review pertains to Dr. Jessica Korman and PA Jillian Sarles. I am not a big reviewer, and everyone's medical experiences are individual, but Dr. Korman & Jillian's efforts on my behalf over the past two years have been nothing short of extraordinary. Their care has been the type you see in movies and read about in books - they took the job of getting me back to health as a personal (and sometimes 24 hour-a-day) battle. I have never felt as confident in my care as I did in their hands. The details are below, but what matters is that these two woman are what everyone deserves in their medical care. Long story (kind of) short, I first went to them as a 31 yr old male with all sorts of stomach issues that had appeared out of the blue (and seemed odd for someone my age). They tried conservative measures, and when those didn't work, they kept on trying to find a solution. They never downplayed my symptoms, and never threw their hands up. After a particularly painful episode, I went to an ER, and the ER discharged me a few hours later. Because I had listed Dr. Korman & Jilliam as my gastro physicians, the ER sent my labs to them the next day (Friday). That Friday evening at 8pm, I get a call from Dr. Korman - she had seen my labs, and said that the ER should have never let me out - I had a bad case of pancreatitis. While on the phone with her, she sent multiple prescriptions to the pharmacy and waited on the phone with me until I received them. She talked me through exactly what to do, and told me to go back to a different hospital (Sibley) at a specific time when one of her colleagues would be attending. When I saw that colleague, she already knew my entire history and said that Dr. Korman had explained the treatment plan, etc. Imagine that, doctors actually coordinating care, and over a weekend! I ended up in the hospital for a week. Her colleague, at Dr. Korman's request, came in every day, and every day Dr. Korman had briefed her with an up-to-date plan for me. Once I was finally out of the hospital, Dr. Korman and Jillian followed up with me by email and phone multiple times a week. The hospital surgeon told me I needed to have my gallbladder taken out, but needed a specialized endoscopy before surgery, and scheduling was a problem because it was around the holidays. So Dr. Korman made appointments for me (as in, I didn't even have to call and schedule, they called me) with Dr. Mitesh Patel for the ultrasound endoscopy and with Dr. Martin Paul for the surgical consult, all within two weeks (instead of three months). Unfortunately, I was not getting better as quickly as we all hoped. I conveyed that to Jillian, and the same day I received a call from Dr. Paul telling me that they had moved my surgery up to the next week. During all of this, both Dr. Korman and Jillian repeatedly told me that they were going to figure out what was causing my issues and get me back to optimal health. I never felt like just another patient, or just another payment, I felt like they really cared about whether I got better. And they followed that up with action, which is regrettably rare these days. Anyone with a chronic health issue knows how invaluable a determined medical team can be, and I can't say enough about the stress they relieved. I am doing much better know, and I have a follow-up MRI scheduled on Sunday. I lost the order for the MRI, so emailed Dr. Korman and Jillian to ask for another copy. Again, even though it was Friday evening, I received the order by email within an hour. That kind of responsiveness has been par for the course, and I am so glad that I have them looking out for me! read more

My experience with Capital Digestive Care as a whole is that it's fine, but Dr. Howard has been disappointing. When I saw her for my first appointment, it was very clear that she has little to no bedside manner, and made me feel rushed or like she wasn't paying close attention. Giving her the benefit of the doubt and understanding that a lot of intelligent people don't have great social skills, I went ahead with the suggested colonoscopy. Upon waking up from the colonoscopy I was put in a room to wait for her. After waiting 30 minutes in a groggy state and asking multiple nurses to remind her I was there, she came to find me but didn't even step into the consulting room... from outside of the doorway she told me that things looked fine but that she'd done a biopsy. This was the beginning of June. I have called 5 times and still have not received the results from her. I would avoid her specifically at all costs. read more

My experience with the CD staff by telephone and in person has been nothing but exceptional. When I called to set up a procedure, the young lady I spoke with was courteous and promised to return my call which she did. I visited the office today (May 11, 2018) and both Brenda and Cecelia were very courteous and more than helpful. Brenda even called me to explain what prep work the doctor wanted me to use (I had suggested something else) and discussed the information with me. Dr Bolen, went to see him seemed to know what he was talking about and told me when I had a flare up to call and he would like to see me. I went home, few days later had a flare up and called so, he could see me and said I could see other doctors. I reminded him what he had said, since I have had colon cancer and he said, "what do you want me to do, come to your house?" He was very rude and didn't care about me as a patient at all. I would NOT recommend Dr. Bolen to my worst enemy. Save yourself time and a lot of money and go to a real doctor who has ethics. If I could give him no stars I would. read more

I've had great experiences with doctors in DC and this was not one of them. The actual office itself isn't the nicest and once you are placed in a room you can hear everything going on in the adjacent rooms which is neither pleasant nor ideal for privacy. I met with Dr. Korman and while she was very nice, she was quick to dismiss my problem and write it off as not a gastro problem. I would definitely never go back and do not recommend it. read more

I recently had a colonoscopy with Dr. Michael Schwartz in their Endoscopy Center at the same location. It was a wonderful an experience as this thing can be. The procedure of drinking the Suptup was not bad, cherry flavored and is split between 2 bottles you dilute with water and then drink 4 glasses of water which are 8 oz half the 16.9 oz bottle of water we all drink. It works fast like 30-20 minutes and the stuff just washes out easily. This was my 3rd colonoscopy and 1st with them and it was the best. Very friendly group no pain doc comes in before and after to discuss he removed 2 polyps I am 69. read more

After several months of unresolved abdominal issues, I was finally told to see a GI doctor. I was optimistic when Dr. Trujilo was able to meet with me quickly (about a week wait for a consultation-for a GI specialist, this is quick). However, he came in and barely even listened to my symptoms. I had had issues for months,and he cut me off after about 20 seconds of speaking, and told me that he was going to give me an endoscopy (which I had never even heard of at the time). He then proceeded to turn on a video tape of the procedure and leave me alone in the exam room to watch this. I felt desperate to be seen, so i went ahead and scheduled it anyways. Then came a run-around with all the office staff as I tried to bump up the procedure as my pain got worse. The first receptionist I spoke to said she scheduled me for a different date, from which I then got a call back a few days later saying they couldn't approve it unless I had ANOTHER consult (I had just been there the week before, not to mention I have this little thing called a full-time job). Then they tried to tell me I could go to another office, but again, it was a run-around with the staff there. It seemed like no one communicated with each other, and when I called each time I had to re-explain my entire situation and then someone would tell me one thing and the another person would say "oh no, we can't do that." or "I'm not sure why she/he told you that". Long story short, if you can, avoid at this place at all costs. I'm starting to think there was a reason Dr. Trujilo was able to see me so quickly. Even with my pain, I've decided to cancel with them completely and start over at a new practice. read more

If I were writing based on my treatment with Dr Korman in the past I would do a positive review. He treated me over the course of some years for various issues and did a colonoscopy about 5 years ago, which was not exactly pleasant, but I felt my treatment and the explanations and followup were very good. However, I am due for another colonoscopy and was very unhappy to learn that he is scheduling for dates that are five months out. Unfortunately I'm in the area only for another two months. While my personal living situation (I am moving from the DC area) certainly is not the fault of Dr Korman or his practice group, that much of a delay simply seems unreasonable. It seems to be a most unfortunate trend for this practice (and many others) to either not hire enough physicians, or take on too many new patients. Too often it seems to be more about volume than care. I do hope the practice group addresses this problem, as my experience with them up until now was pretty positive. read more

There's never a long waiting time to see him, and the doctor is always efficient and thorough in his exams. He's a great listener with a terrific and calming bedside manner. Overall a great practice and I really like Dr. Collier, he's been awesome from the beginning. The staff is usually very nice but today when I came in for my appointment at 3:30 and signed in at 3:40 the office was very busy. There was no one at the window where my doctor's sign in sheet was but l signed in anyway figuring that they would check when they got back. Apparently, no one did because at 4:00 I went up and asked was the doctor running behind. I was then asked my name and appointment time. Then I was told that I was 20 minutes late and that I may not be seen because of it! I told her I signed in when I arrived at 3:40 and she proceeded to argue with me and advise me to call the next time I'm running late? In this area at least 10 minutes late is acceptable. I started to think that maybe I was later than I thought so I checked my parking ticket and I pulled in at 3:37 parked right in front of the building and went straight upstairs. She then told me that even though I got my ticket at 3:37, I still had to park and probably didn't come straight up to the office!!! WHAT?!?!? I drove over an hour to get to this appointment in another state! Where else was I going? I decided that she'd made up her mind and it was better to leave well enough alone. But I was really upset that she was basically calling me a liar for an oversight on their part! read more

I have been quite pleased with this practice, and Dr. Schwartz. Considering that I have been seen by some of the best in the IBD world - Hanauer in Chicago, Bayless at Johns Hopkins, Present at Mount Sinai - as well as numerous other gastros elsewhere over my 22 years with Crohn's, I feel qualified enough to rate publicly. Patients can have bad experiences with even the best of providers (albeit I have not), and a lot of finding a good relationship is trial and error (which I have), but this group has done well by me in my ~8 years with them, so I recommend considering them. read more

I recently had a pre-procedure consult and then routine colonoscopy with Dr. Schwartz. The consult was downtown, the procedure in Chevy Chase. All my calls to the central scheduling office were handled in a friendly and professional manner. The downtown office staff were average for a typical busy practice, the waiting room and consult rooms on par with other K street practitioners. Dr Schwartz's demeanor was exactly what a 50 year old wants for a less-then-pleasant but important procedure. He answered every question, was an astute listener, assumed intelligence and was very kind and unhurried but efficient. The procedure facility in CC is easy to get to and has parking (paid). The clinic has the look and feel of a small hospital wing. Staff/nurses/techs were professional with the usual variation in personality types. Everything was handled smoothly and with good attention to patient dignity and comfort. The anesthesiologist was informative and reassuring (it was indeed like having a nap at home). Dr Schwartz was very kind and instilled complete confidence in the procedure room. His bedside manner is understated, attentive and kind. I heard of MG by word of mouth.
