Updating my review in honor of Women's history month. Let me start by saying this- this review will probably sound like I am personally friends with the business owner- I am not but wish I was. I met McKenzie by running into her shop ten minutes before closing time, racing over after work to get my broken glasses repaired. i was fully prepared to pay the repair fee posted on the website- she insisted it wasn't that big of a fix and wanted to do it for free. When I insisted on paying, she charged me $3. I have gone back several times for glasses fittings and repairs and she never charges. Most recently I came in with a bunch of glasses to see how different they were from the new script I received from the eye doctor . She so kindly tested every single one. I was prepared to finally pay her for her kindness by buying a pair of sunglasses or at least sunglass lenses, and she acted with the most integrity I have seen from a business owner in ages. She said that despite none of the prescriptions being the exact same there was one pair of sunglasses that were close enough that for sunglasses which are more forgiving I wouldn't notice a difference and that if she were me she wouldn't bother buying new ones. She absolutely could have sold me a pair of sunglasses- it was again right at closing time and instead she helped me out and did not charge a penny. I don't know how she stays in business but I am so glad she is. I think its worth the cost to go somewhere that is doing it right. The prices are high because her costs are high- she has what is likely a razor thin margin. Unfortunately because she does not have an optometrist or ophthalmologist on staff she can't bill insurance, but for those without vision insurance or looking for an extra pair etc- I would highly recommend Capital Eyes/ McKenzie and her adorable shop puppy. 10/10 service, a decent selection and she is so great at making recommendations (she had customers buying glasses the last time I went in so I got to watch her in action). read more

Frames were titanium so she couldn't fix them by soldering but she did swap out the lenses to my former frames which were almost identical. When I asked how much I owed, the proprietor just shrugged to say, nothing." How refreshing to see there are still folks like this in the world today. Great place! read more

I broke my frames last week at work. The break was pretty bad and my glasses were falling off every time I looked slightly downward. When I called to see if I could get them repaired, I was told to come in and an appointment was not necessary. I used to have to take off my glasses when doing CPR trainings for work because they would fall off my face even before I broke them. I walked out ten minutes after walking in and my frames were fixed and she even tightened up the fit! All of this free of charge. My family and I used to go here back when the old owner was running the shop, and it is really nice to see that even under new ownership, the customer service and repair quality are both still absolutely amazing. I cannot recommend Capital Eyes Optical enough. I have seen them repair glasses that looked hopeless before and I will continue to return any time that I need help. PS: do not glue your glasses or mention glue in the shop. That is a bad word and will get you in trouble hahaha read more

Just picked up my glasses today and I have to say, the service here is incredible. I bought a pair of frames online and attempted to get them fit with prescription lenses locally, but my typical place wasn't able to do it. Other local optical shops were out of my budget but I'd heard good things about Capital Eyes before, so I decided to reach out to them. McKenzie (the owner) promptly answered my messages online and I ended up deciding to go to her to get my lenses. She was very thorough in explaining the entire process, different add-ons/options, and breaking down the cost of the lenses to me. I think I probably spent an hour total at my visit not only talking to her about my glasses, but also how she took over the business and is working to modernize the place while still keeping its charm as a local business. After our discussion I could really tell that she loves what she does and values her customers immensely. Overall, I'm very pleased with my entire experience and will certainly be recommending Capital Eyes to my friends and family! read more

I was doing some research on eyeglass repair shops because my Sunglass frame broke off. I went to Sunglass Hut where I originally bought it, and they referred me to Exotica Repair. So as I called, the associate stated that they cannot do the repair unless they have a receipt, and I can't provide that because my sunglasses were over 10 years old. The only other option is to just visit LensCrafters, but that's all the way in Tacoma and I don't drive. So after more research, I stopped by Capital Eyes because they do emergency eyeglass repair. I saw that there were 3 other people waiting in front of me, but the optician Gary was quick on serving customers. After about 5 minutes, I was next and Gary immediately knew what to do. He informed me that the metal frame on my sunglasses broke off with the screw still mounted on my lens and will have to use the soldering iron to reconnect it. About 10 minutes later and the job was done. Gary even replaced my eyeglass pads and adjusted them to make a perfect fit for my sunglasses. What's even more shocking is that the total cost was only $29! Gary and Capital Eyes is a great shop to go to for eyeglass repair. Gary's friendly, talkative, and very well skilled. After having an awful sales woman at my normal eye doctor, I turned to yelp to find a place to buy my glasses from. With the 5 star review, I figured it was worth a try. I was greeted the moment I walked in and the customer service was amazing. I stated what I wanted, and I got exactly that. My glasses came in one week and when I went to pick them up, the my were form fitted to my face. The nose piece was replaced, so it fit my Asian nose bridge perfectly. The frame was heated and bent, so they won't move on my face. I've never, ever been given better customer service when purchasing glasses. Not only that, the price was affordable! I really like supporting my local businesses over national chains, and this place really does earn your business. As a long-time patron of lenscrafters, I am happy to have an alternative. The reasons I switched to this place? You get more for your money here. First, lenscrafters is always having "sales" that look very impressive at first, but by the time you actually pay for what you really need, you are not getting any sort of deal. I then went to a very cheap route once (bought glasses in Fred Meyer) and the lenses were horrible. Things got blurry unless you looked directly ahead. I explained this to the lady there and she said that was normal for the lab they used! Now back to Capital Eyes. The prices are comparable to lenscrafters' sales, but here you get a level of service you will not get at a chain. They actually know how to help you pick glasses that look good on your face. They really know the differences between the different lines of frames and can help you choose the most appropriate one for your budget. They do not try to oversell or nickle&dime you for things that you don't want. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that you do not get glasses the same day. It takes a week or so, but for me, the attention to detail and the personal service are well worth it. Also, it is not as cheap as Fred Meyer or someplace like that. read more

I've been wearing glasses since the mid-1980s, and Gary is the ONLY person who has ever adjusted them to fit correctly. It was roughly seven years ago - two days before a business trip. My glasses broke, and I didn't have a spare pair. I tried six or seven places to get them fixed, and no one would help. One even told me it was illegal to repair frames without getting a new exam and prescription from their onsite doctor. Then I went to Capitol Eyes. I launched into my story with Gary, and before I got more than a few sentences in, he'd taken my glasses into the back, and brought them out fixed. Not good as new - they were many years old, and snapped for a reason. But the repair held me for the trip, AND he said that if I bought new frames from him within six months he'd apply the cost of the repair to my new frames. I haven't gone to anyone sense. I've bought three pairs of frames from him - all of which are high quality, and thus still in solid condition as spares. And more importantly - they fit right! read more

Wow! Great service! My son's $375 glasses snapped at the bridge and super glue didn't do the trick. The owner here popped out the lenses and filed them down a bit to fit an inexpensive frame in stock. The cost was $39. Plus, the owner is highly skilled with a homespun sense of customer service. read more

Horrible experience with this business. Put wrong prescription in my lenses. They were so bad that I couldn't see out of them. He said they were the right prescription and argued about it with me. I have never had an experience with a business like this. Went to another optometrist and had to pay AGAIN for the right prescription lenses so I could see. It has been 7 years from the time Gary first rescued my essential glasses. At that time I lived in West Olympia and newly divorced I was frantic about not having glasses nor could afford much. Today, I drove from Tacoma to see if he could repair not one but two broken pairs. My glasses were repaired today and once again I'm extremely grateful for Gary's kind services. Emergencies happen and he is very professional and a miracle worker! We plan on supporting his business further by ordering our new glasses from him. He is one of a kind.
