STEER CLEAR OF THIS VET. My healthy cat needed ointment for a scratch above his eye. The night before they prescribed Gabapentin pills to keep him calm. One capsule was 3 times proper dosage and it killed my cat in 2 hrs. He trusted me and I euthanized him with 300 mg pill (Calvin was to get another one in the am before his appt, but died on my kitchen floor after the first pill). I've reported them to the Virginia Veterinary Board after his autopsy was performed. Unless you want to KILL YOUR HEALTHY PET- STEER CLEAR. (they did say they were sorry, and quickly offered to dispose of his body before the autopsy was performed, which I declined). RESPONDING to your comments below: You didn't kill him. I did. The proper dosage for a cat is 5 mg per pound, one capsule of what you gave me is for 60-100 lb dog. Per both of our regular vets, (who unfortunately didn't have appts available), 300mg capsule is an ASTRONOMCAL amount to give to a cat which would put him in respiratory failure. If the capsule at night wouldn't have killed him, the capsule you required we give him in the morning of the appt would have. He had a scratch near his eye that caused some mucus material and sometimes crust to form in corner of his eye. He had it years ago, and ointment clears it up. I absolutely pay extra and request that Calvin be given gas sedation if exams and checkups are any length of time. That's for his benefit and allows vets to do thorough exams. Not skip over things due to cat fidgeting, etc. When my husband said you give 300mg capsules out as standard procedure for all cats, there were 7 capsules in total in the bottle, that caused me to sound the alarm ...so owners are aware that a 300mg capsule can kill a cat. It's the dosage for a 60-100 lb dog per manufacturer. I have PROFOUND survivors guilt because I gave him the capsule that night as your Rx and the bottle instructions requested.

S'mores on his last day before being mercifully released from his pain and sickness.

A great experience at a sad time. We had to end our 17 y/o tabby cat's life, he was very sick from kidney failure and was not gonna recover. After making the appointment with April on the phone, Erin and Kaitlyn came over as a team. They both very clearly cared about our pet's welfare, and last moments in this world. Made a tough thing a lot easier to deal with. Both my wife and I are grateful that this option is available, rather than going to a vet's office and the animal spending it's lost hours in a scary place on a stainless table. Great people and great service.

After taking my senior cat to our…read moreregular vet, I was told he would need extensive dental extractions that could cost anywhere from $3,000-$4,000. While researching options, I somehow found myself on Helping Hands' website, and I'm so glad I did. Their pricing was straightforward and transparent, with the flat fee including blood work and everything else needed for the procedure. When I arrived, the intake process took about 30 minutes, and the staff carefully walked me through exactly what they were going to do. They told me I could pick my cat up around 5 PM, which gave me the rest of the day to explore Richmond. While waiting, I grabbed breakfast at The Fancy Biscuit, walked around Virginia Commonwealth University, did the canal walk, learned about the history of the bridge the Confederates destroyed while retreating from Union forces, and even stopped by a brewery with an amazing outdoor area. Richmond ended up being a really great day trip. When I picked my cat up, they told me he did great. He did end up needing many teeth removed, but I could immediately tell he had been well cared for. We're now two days post-op and he's already eating again. They also sent us home with all the medication he needed. This place is absolutely amazing. Affordable, compassionate, organized, and clearly staffed by people who genuinely care about animals.

This place has become incredibly disappointing. I originally found them because they were…read morerecommended as an affordable option. At one point, the basic dental service was around $260. When I called about a month ago, the price had already increased, and now it's over $500 just for the basics. While reading recent reviews, I noticed another customer shared that their dog still had rotten teeth after receiving treatment here and ended up having to go to a different veterinarian for another dental procedure, spending over $2,000 total. That's extremely concerning, especially for those of us with senior dogs. The last thing I want is to put my dogs under anesthesia more than once because a procedure wasn't done properly the first time. My experience with the front desk staff was also frustrating. I simply asked what records and requirements they needed from my veterinarian, such as wellness exams, bloodwork, or other testing. Instead of clearly answering my questions, I felt dismissed and spoken to rudely. The conversation quickly turned into being told that if I used another veterinarian, they would need to perform their own exam anyway. It felt more like they were pushing me toward either their $500 package or their $1,700 package with X-rays rather than helping me understand the requirements. I spent a long time saving up to get dental work done for my two senior dogs, and this experience has made the process much more complicated than it needed to be. At this point, I'm considering staying in New York and finding a local veterinarian instead. It's unfortunate to see a business build its reputation on being affordable and accessible, only to move away from the very reasons so many people chose them in the first place. Even more concerning are reports suggesting that some pets may require additional procedures elsewhere, forcing owners to spend more money and put their beloved pets through anesthesia again. That's something no pet owner wants to experience.

My fiancé had an easy time setting up an appointment on the phone. They even sent a text reminder about the appointment the week of. We decided to go together since this was our first cat in adulthood. The veterinary nurse was beyond kind, complimenting Prosciutto (our cat). She was super gentle and tested to see if he liked Churu (a squeezable cat treat) for the appointment. When she was done weighing him, we waited probably less than five minutes before Dr. Sara De Wet came in. Dr. Sara was incredible. Her bedside manner was beyond amazing. She took the time to educate us about our cat, any future health concerns that could arise, and to answer my plethora of questions. She put on "cat music" (we learned that vet's proved that classical music in vet settings can calm a cat) to help him with his nerves. She complimented him in the cutest ways for being brave and food motivated. He was obviously a bit on edge in an unfamiliar setting, but Dr. Sara was so gentle she made the process as easy as she could. He had a regular check-up and got two vaccines. I highly recommend taking your pets to Scott's Addition Animal Hospital.

They're more than happy to prescribe meds to calm your anxious pet down before visits which is 100% necessary in my case. They gave us a great referral when my cat was diagnosed with a heart murmur. They listen, give you a bunch of options, and also give their personal experience with their own pets. I often use that as a gauge of what tests I want to run and I never feel like they're just trying to get money out of me. I'm writing this because of the amount of time the staff spent with my cat today. He didn't have his usual calming meds and was very vocal about how little he wanted to be there. They gave us so much grace and extra time to make sure we could do as much of the exam in office as possible. And when they needed a couple more things but my cat was too stressed there, they set me up with everything I needed to take samples at home and bring back to them for testing (also gave me the option of getting more calming meds and bringing my cat back when he was calmer). They're (seemingly!) happy to explain things thoroughly and I greatly appreciate that.

I believe this visit cost around ~$200, including urinalysis and other tests. Our most recent visit was for grooming for Grits. I've never had a long haired animal before and I was so thankful for the time Debbie took to explain how I could best maintain his coat and comfort! This visit, with a first time grooming discount, was $35. The receptionists and assistants are always incredibly kind & seem to really love animals.
