    Rug with new fringe.

Just had four rugs cleaned and repaired at Capital Rug Cleaning. The service was top-notch. Upon dropping off my rugs, Mr. Wardak personally unloaded all of the rugs from my car. I needed the four rugs cleaned and the fringe replaced on one rug (size 8x10 machine made rug). After looking at the three smaller handmade rugs, he gave me assessments of their condition. Since I am new to collecting handmade rugs, I am really that knowledgeable about knowing what to look for as far as maintenance and care. They all needed to prevent further unraveling and one of them had significant loss and needed a portion of it totally rewoven. I experienced some sticker shock as the total ended up being double what I originally thought I was going to pay but I had not factored in the amount of repairs the rugs needed and the fact that Mr. Wardak does the repairs by hand. Even though it was a week and a half before Thanksgiving and I needed the rugs back by Thanksgiving (I was hosting dinner at my house!), Mr. Wardak accommodated me and I was able to pick them up the day before. All of the rugs were super clean and the repairs were expertly done. The new fringe (all hand-sewn) looks AMAZING! It looks like a totally new rug. When I picked them up, Mr. Wardak's son loaded them all into my car. Top-notch service and super friendly. It's not cheap but you certainly get what you pay for. I even got a discount for driving the rugs myself instead of using their pick-up/delivery service. All-in-all I would highly recommend Capital Rug Cleaning!

My "brand new" rug. These guys make my filthy carpet look like new again.

They looked beautiful and were perfect in our living and dining rooms. But it didn't take long for our puppy to spit up (twice!) on the beautiful new living room rug. I tried to deal with the stains myself, thinking since they were just clear "water," not actual vomit, it would be easy to blot them out. Silly me. (I later learned that puppy spit-up has acid bile in it, which eats away at wool if not promptly and properly treated.) The stains were still there the next day, so I turned to the internet and, alas, followed the instructions from several of my go-to reliable sourced sites for such issues--I mean places like Consumer Reports and Good Housekeeping, not just random DIY posters. Anyway, after applying a paste of baking soda and Dawn (benign, right? wrong, wrong, wrong!), things went from bad to worse. The stains were now huge and they were BROWN. In short, my beautiful blue and white rug was pretty well ruined. In despair, I did what I should have done in the first place--I called Mr. Parvizian. I explained what had happened, and he came out to the house after work a couple of nights later to have a look at the rug. Even though this was clearly user error (he kept scratching his head at "baking soda") he and his helper simply loaded the rug up and took it away, telling me he would see what he could do. A few days later, he called to say the rug was ready, cautioning us that it was "better," but not perfect. My husband and I drove to the shop to see what, if any, improvement had been made. The rug was laid out on the shop floor, waiting for our inspection when we arrived. It looked amazing! The spots had not only disappeared, but the entire carpet had been cleaned, and the stains were undetectable! So this sad story with the happy ending has a few takeways: -Do not, under any circumstances, try to clean your own rug if you don't know what you're doing, no matter what the internet tells you!! Baking soda is not an appropriate solvent for cleaning wool rugs! Puppy spit-up is very damaging to wool! -Go to Parvizian Rugs, not only for purchasing a beautiful, well-priced rug, but for the amazing and caring service. It was truly above and beyond, because this whole sorry episode was my fault--and really, Mr. P. was not obligated to do anything for me in the situation. He took it upon himself to take responsibility and to remedy this because he wanted a happy customer. That's pretty exceptional in this day and age. Thank you, Mr. P!

I also smelled bleach which Mr. Parvizian denies using for fringe cleaning. The next clue was the condescending way Mr. Parvizian treated me when I brought my machine-made rug into the establishment to be cleaned. He told me my rug was not worth the price of cleaning. About a month after cleaning the fringe started to disintegrate. The response from Mr. Parvizian was that machine-made rugs have synthetic fringe and they are not responsible. The fringe is cotton, we had it replaced 12 years ago after a vacuum cleaner mishap. Then he stated that the rug was stained, which it was not, we do not have animals and our children have been out of the house for over 20 years. The last communication was that I signed the contract that in a roundabout way says they are not responsible for any damage to rugs being cleaned.

It was barely used and was in excellent condition, but for some odd reason the cushion was sinking. I figured, if I got it reupholstered to the color of my choice and had the cushion replaced, it would be good as new. I took to my handy dandy Yelp app and did a search and Mill End popped up. I'm familiar with the shop, since a family member worked there years ago, but I had no clue they did this type of work. I gave them a call and was told to bring in a picture to evaluate the chair because they didn't want me to be without my chair for a long time. Well, I thought bringing in the chair itself would be easier, since I wasn't in a hurry for it. I was greeted by a very knowledgeable staff member who gushed about how beautiful the chair was. She did an evaluation of what would be needed to repair and reupholster it and then showed me the fabrics that were available in the color I selected. They have a large variety of fabrics on-sight in the store, but they do have options that can be ordered. The one I selected was on-sight. We agreed upon the estimated price, I filled out some paperwork and I was out the door. It was literally that quick and simple. Since they have a pretty extensive client list waiting for their projects before me, my estimated date for the chair to be completed was about 2 months or so. To my surprise, I was called about a month later informing me that my chair was ready. I arrived and was extremely pleased with my brand new chair. The workmanship was beautifully done and the cushion they replaced was perfectly placed. They did such a phenomenal job, my parents wanted their chair back. Lol! Not on my watch! Yes, Mill End is a bit pricey, but so worth it! They're truly professionals. I'm planning to get my dinning room chairs reupholstered in the near future, so I made sure to get an estimate while I was there. I'll absolutely be back in the near future.
