I've taken my car in over the last few years for routine maintenance as well as the occasional service issue, and Abed and Mo have always done great work. If I drop off in the morning they always get it back to me by the end of the day. Whenever I've needed a repair, Abed takes the time to talk through whatever descriptions and background I can provide about the issue, and when I get the car back either he or Mo explain how they diagnosed the problem and what they did to fix it. They've never recommended unnecessary repairs or service, and their invoices are always very detailed and very reasonable. read more

I took my car in for an oil change and asked young Mohammed (who did the intake) to also look into a hot plastic or metal smell that had started the day before. He called an hour later to report that the "musty" smell must have been from air filters overdue for replacement. I reminded him that it wasn't a "musty" smell at all, but allowed him to replace the filters. The next day, the temperature gauge went through the roof as I was driving out Route 66 near Vienna. I barely had time to steer off an exit before the power steering went and pulled into a post office parking lot as smoke poured from the engine compartment. Discharge from the radiator looked like vomit (in fact, coolant full of melted plastic). Got the car towed to Craftsman Auto Care nearby. They reported that the radiator had cracked as a result of coolant system failure. They recommended not even attempting repairs and predicted that the engine was also highly compromised. Sadly, I donated my much-loved vehicle to Habitat for Humanity. Even the least competent mechanic on the planet knows that when you do an oil change, you check fluid levels. If the guy had checked, he would have instantly known the coolant was all gone. But according to him, all good. It has taken me a long time (almost a year) to write this review, as I have sought counsel from knowledgeable mechanics and others and recovered from this mishap caused by negligence. I have emailed the shop (Abed and Mohammed) a fairly calm recounting of events, asking for their response, and have received none. read more

I drive a 25-year old Honda Civic. On short notice, I've had motor mounts, front brake lines, and other parts replaced, along with fluid changes and topping off. Mo and Abed are very pleasant and accommodating. Based on my experience as a DIY auto repairman of 40 years, they are more than adequately skilled. Absolute disaster -- never again! I took my car for break pad replacement when the warning light came on. An hour later the manager of the place called me and in so many words influenced me to ordering off market parts from his preferred vendor instead of the BMW parts that would have costed a $150 more and that allegedly would have taken longer to arrived. Unfortunately I played into his narrative. My brakes have been squeaking since then like badly maintained delivery truck. I have been calling every day ever since and leaving messages but nobody is calling me back. The station is now under construction. While I believe the mechanic to be a good person, the owner is a total crook and I will never again go there for maintenance or gas. NEVER AGAIN!! read more

I had a great experience with this shop. I called over re some issues I'm having with an old car I will soon be replacing. They said come right over and within the hour gave me an honest assessment of my vehicle and advice of what I should do - their recommendation was to do nothing given the expense that would be involved. I sort of already knew this VW service had quoted me $4000 + dollars to repair everything but it was good to have reassurance. more importantly, they let me know that it's fine to drive the car locally while I decide what I want to do as far as a replacement. Big thanks to Abed and Moe, as my daughter living in D.C. had a light on the dash and ultimately needed an alternator, after Abed inspected the vehicle and determined that the alternator was no longer charging the battery as needed. He gave her a good price, was able to complete the work in a really short amount of time, and made the entire transaction smooth. I've been dealing with Abed for many years, and now his son has joined him in the autocare business. Abed has become a good friend over the years as well as a prized auto mechanic, and I look forward to the same relationship with the son. I turn to them for everything from a significant engine problem to a minor ding to a mirror, which they fixed together this morning in under five minutes. They are trustworthy, friendly and highly competent. My son when in because the AC was not blowing out cold air. They were supposed to give him an estimate before doing any work but proceeded to put two cans of refrigerant and charge him an additional $125 in labor for a 5 min job without notifying him. When he got back home to Boston a week later, just hot air blowing again. Ended up being a faulty valve. Disappointed. read more

Abed's shop is a real find. The friendly and honest work here is first-rate and timely, and one would be hard-pressed to find better prices. Given that fair pricing, and the fact that they don't go fishing for marginally needed repairs to boost revenue, its one of the few service centers I have found where the bottom-line cost may actually be lower then expected. My car had an emergency tow to Capitol Autocare late at night after the check-engine light came on and it began to smell. Early the next morning, I received a call from the owner, Abed, who asked all the right questions to get started. He called twice more with updates and talked me through the issues with the oil and the timing. By late afternoon, my car was repaired, test-driven by Abed's son (this is a father-son family business), and even cleaned! If you've got more money than time I suppose these guys are okay. However after my last attempt I would NOT bring my wife's SUV or my Grand Cherokee for anything but an oil change or detail. I guess you don't know if you are getting ripped off until it is too late. I took my car there 4 months ago just for an oil change. They called and said I need brakes and rotors, both front and back. Since I only drive once a week, I opted to get just the front done, because it was really expensive, and the guy said at least to get the front done, because that is the most important. Anyway, today I took my car to the Ford dealer for a minor recall on part, and while they had it in the shop, I got the oil changed and asked them to look at my brakes because another mechanic said I needed them replaced. I told them I had the front ones done, not the rear. The Ford dealer said my brakes are fine. I do NOT need rear brakes. Obviously I don't need front ones as I just had those replaced. But this begs the question: If the Capital Auto Service mechanic said I needed to replace the front and rear brakes and rotors, and the Ford dealer says my rear brakes are fine, then would this mean that the Capital Auto mechanic lied about both the the front and rear brakes? I would think the answer is yes, because why would he lie about just the rear brakes? So I got ripped off $250 for brakes and rotors and almost $300 in labor. I am going to call them tomorrow to talk with the manager and see what they have to say about themselves. They should be ashamed of themselves. Maybe they got an extra $500 out of me but they lost a customer for life. I should have read the other reviews before taking my car there. I have to say this to anyone who dares to take their care to this shop: If you get ripped off, file a Better Business Bureau complaint. I have filed one against them, and have stated that I want my $500 back. Whether or not the BBB is able to resolve this and get my money refunded, at least there is a complaint. If everyone who got ripped off would file a complaint against this shop, these complaint stay on their BBB record. It is not enough to just write these complaints on Yelp. read more

Friendly and quick service. I brought my car in on a Friday morning and was told it would be about an hour to hour and a half wait. Nicely enough, I was notified of service completion only 20 minutes later. Although they were nice I'm not sure if I'll go back since my oil change cost $40. I'm not sure if that's the norm around here (I just moved to the area) but I'm used to paying $23-$30. read more

I have been here three times, and it is the best in the area. The regulator on my window was broken, and I called around, and they were the cheapest by over $100. I also got my oil changed quick and easy. Lastly, I got my brake light changed, which is, admittedly, easy anywhere, but they did not charge for the labor and even went the extra mile and helped me get some old parking/vehicle registration stickers off. All in all, they are friendly, cheap, and trustworthy. My only complaint keeping it from 5 stars is that sometimes they don't see you standing at the counter waiting for service when they are in the garage. read more

I'll swear by Tim. This guy is great. Currently both my front tires are patched courtesy of Tim. First my gf took my car here and he dealt with her honestly and fairly. Charged us $20 (which is $5 less then i pay for my haircut). The second time I came back for the other other front tire and he was great again. I'll for sure be returning. read more

Jim offers great service!!! I found him on Yelp and decided to stop by one afternoon. Although he was closing up, he stopped to check my brakes which were grinding. He gave me a quote estimate and told me to come back the next day. Also, while I was there, another customer gave him a high recommendation for his work on an Aston Martin. Even though I wasn't able to come next day, I called Jim up about a week later and he remembered me. He was able to get me in that day at 10am and I picked up my car around 12:30. Took my car in because it was leaking break fluid. They claimed that the problem was a faulty master cylinder (which almost never need to be replaced, very suspicious) and claimed they fixed the problem. A couple weeks later when I was out of town I had to take the car to another mechanic because it still had the same problem. Turns out the leak was a faulty break caliper that was leaking, and the mechanic told me the new master cylinder that I recently had installed was faulty and a piece of junk. So either they misdiagnosed the problem or just ripped me off, but either way not very good work. read more

I had a very, very sketchy experience here 18 months or so ago. I vowed to never go back. I will barely countenance buying gas at this place, I felt so completely ripped off. Supposedly he repaired a major engine part which cast me $400+ 2weeks later I'm driving to the beach when the part FAILS. I coast on fumes into a repair shop at the beach where they tell me that I have had a re-conditioned part placed in my car at Capital Auto (Tim said nothing about this at the time!) and that the part has to be replaced with a new one! Of course I have to let the beach sheisters do it because I'm stuck! so I pay a whopping $475 for them to replace it. Well, on my return to DC 4 weeks later I go straight to Tim and say WTF? and he tells me I'm SOL because I don't have the old part. Well I had to trade in the old part to the beach repair guys so that they could give me a so called "discount" on the price of a new one. *ssholes, *ssholes..Even though I had a receipt from the beach guys telling exactly what had happened. So, I basically had no recourse! Tim would NOT give me a penny back on the crap part he sold me and I was out $875 .00. I would stay far, far away from this place. On another occasion he charged $500+ to fix my power window assembly and stop my engine from screeching by replacing a belt. He failed to attach the inside door lining properly claiming that there was no bolt available to attach it with. Seriously, a car repair shop that did not have a bolt, apparently. So the thing was hanging off on the inside of the door and you could barely close the door. I went home, found a bolt and with great effort, I was able to attach the lining. I was furious but--his shop is close to our house so I defaulted to him again with the above mentioned engine part incident. I gave him two big chances and I was incredibly unsatisfied both times. I would NEVER take my car to him and would not recommend him to anyone. read more
