Marty and the team are wonderful. I had tires replaced last week at another shop. I started losing air pressure days later in one of my tires. I took my vehicle to the shop that I purchased my tires. I was told that I had a screw in one of my tires and they were unable to do a patch. I was told I would need to replace that tire. I wanted a second opinion, I took my car to Metro Motor. They were able to correct the other shop's patch job mistake and patch my new tire. I am very grateful for their professionalism, knowledge, and willingness to help me. I went in for an oil change and my check engine light was on. The mechanic told me there was a coolant leak and traced it back to the radiator. He said the car would need a new radiator and new hoses. He then gave me an estimate upwards of $2,200. I said to just change the oil for now and brought the car to my local guy. He said it just needed a new coolant reservoir and got the job done for $200 read more

Newly arrived to the neighborhood I was looking for a place nearby to get an oil change. Hilltop had good reviews so I left my car there at 7:45 am and was assured that it would be ready "around noon". I called at 12:30 pm and was told I was "next on the lift" and would be ready to go at 3:00 pm. I walked over at 3:15 and was told "they couldn't get to it". No sorry, no explanation, no call alerting me to it. Took my keys and left. Bottom line I was lied to twice by a company that prides itself on customer service. The positive reviews do not in anyway reflect the attitudes of the employees or ownership of this business. Very sad. read more

This place is always great! I get my oil changed twice a year and they always make sure to check my brakes, rotate my tires, and steering every time I go. Since DC doesn't do inspections like PA does, it helps give me peace of mind. They also work hard to not overprice service and often can do it same day. Between my husband needing new tires and me now needing new brakes we are very lucky to have them!!! read more

Pulled into Exxon expecting to put air in one of my tires until I could get it patched, a very nice man, named Mo, offered to put air in my tires for me, and when I told him I had a screw in one of them, he immediately offered to patch my tire! I'd driven in from NYC only to discover that my right light was blown. They gave me an appointment within 24 hours and figured out that the socket was blown. That would take more than 24 hours to replace. But, they figured out that a new lightbulb did light up, so they put that in and sent me on my way with working headlights. Total cost? A whopping $23! Wonderful! Under new ownership and amazing. They're super friendly, attentive, professional, and all-around great. I had work done, and they not only charged me a very low rate, but it was done exactly when they said that it would be. They also checked the car over, and gave me recommendations of what I may need in the future, without any pressure to do any of it right away. It feels like a real old-fashioned service station, but with all of the upscale amenities. I only live 1/2 mile away, but have generally avoided this station in the past due to the poor management. Highly recommend!! This place is truly about customer service at a good price. We were at Sibley hospital for cancer treatment and came back to a completely flat tire. We knew we couldn't get very far and remembered the Exxon that we pass every day on our way in. We were a little worried that it would be really expensive due to the location, but didn't have a lot of options. We are so glad we went there. Went to drive my car to work and the power steering was making some funky noise. I called Hilltop Exxon super early in the morning and they were more than willing to see me later that day when I could bring my car in. Dana was incredibly communicative and a joy to talk to. He wasn't fazed when I asked if he would talk to my boyfriend about all the car stuff (I have no idea what I'm doing) and talked him through everything. Brought a friend there with problems with his Subaru. We didn't even have to leave it a find out later what was wrong with it! Jason came right out with the diagnostic tablet and ran the test with us there. Suggested was was probably wrong with it (which I agreed that he was probably correct understanding something about cars myself) We left, he validated the problem though the part needed to be delivered after the weekend. No problem at all. Part delivered on Monday, installed and road tested. No BS regarding the cost or upsell which I was expecting. Jason and his guys I highly recommend that you consider using them. I grew up in the area, and my parents followed Dave from the old Texaco on Westbard as he took ownership of Hilltop Exxon. Dave, German, and the rest of the folks are friendly, trustworthy, and informative. They'll call you and lay out your options for repairs--pointing out what would be silly to fix if you're getting rid of your car soon, but what would be a wise investment if you'd like to keep your car for many years. Gas is expensive, but not outrageous considering: 1. it's in Brookmont, near other exorbitant stations in upper Northwest and Bethesda, and 2. it's in Brookmont, and it's the only gas station till you get to Glen Echo. read more

Took one of our cars here mostly because thought had a warranty issue with monroe quick strut, and they are a dealer (they did not do the installation). Also did oil change and tire rotation as long as I was there. I can unequivocally say they are honest and not only did not try to talk me into unnecessary service, they talked me out of unnecessary repair, laying out why I didn't need it, no safety issue and showed me the details of the car on the lift. I am high maintenance on my vehicles, maintaining them properly and keeping them forever. I absolutely will return. read more

My experience was awful. I explained that the vehicle was going to be restored and needed to be operable. The man at Hilltop said they could do it and to bring it in. I paid $70 to get the vehicle towed by the tow company he recommended. When I took it to Hilltop the man refused to work on it. He was downright nasty and belligerent and yelled at me "to get that thing out of here!" " -- after they told me they would do it. I had to pay another $75 to tow it back. I can understand if after assessing the situation they might have found it too complicated and they politely explained why, but there is NO EXCUSE for hostile, belligerent behavior. Fortunately, I found a mechanic to do the work and the restoration proceeds. read more

This place did my oil change......cost me $53 which is kind of high. I also asked them how much it would cost to do a timing belt change. He said, with all this extra stuff, that it would cost $1000. I've never paid more than 300-400 for a timing belt/water pump. So yeah, they are expensive.....and deserted on a Sat afternoon. read more

Great group of guys that work here- friendly and reliable, have always kept me well informed of cost, timing, etc. They even went the extra mile this last time to back me up when the tow truck driver that dropped off my car was being extremely rude and aggressive- even called the tow truck company on my behalf in addition to urging me to call and report the instance. I trust them with my car more than any other shop in town (including honda service centers). read more

The mechanic actually offered to stay late so that I could get my tire fixed this evening (seriously!). Mo did it again - bailed me out after 5 PM and in the blink of an eye. I noticed an indicator on my dashboard late this afternoon showing my car had a rear light issue. I drove immediately to Hilltop Exxon. Seeing Mo's friendly wave of recognition made me feel relieved immediately. I was hoping to be able to make an appointment to get it fixed, or at least looked at, the next day. Instead he insisted on looking at it right away and he fixed it on the spot! Such a nice man and so knowledgeable. I honestly don't know how I got by before I met Mo at Hilltop Exxon. He makes my life so much easier and I always leave with a smile on both of our faces. I had a fantastic experience yesterday. I was driving to work and needed gas, so I filled up at this Metro Motor. When I tried to start my car, it would not come to life. The bad news was my battery was dead. The good news is this happened right there at the gas station. The team diagnosed the problem, jumped the car, replaced the battery in their garage and had me back on the road in 15 minutes. They were professional, prompt and so friendly (pulling a chair into the office for me to wait and offering me snacks). It's true, ignore all reviews dated prior to 2016! This place is under new management, with an entirely new staff. I can say with all sincerity that these guys are doing it right! The old management, and the employees in general, were always either indifferent or downright grumpy. But that kind of experience is now a distant memory now that Jason, Mo and the crew have taken over. Mo always greets customers at the counter (register) with a smile and great attitude. If you're a regular, you can come to expect a handshake/fistbump, he'll even start recognizing your car when you pull in to the pumps and wave thru the window. Super friendly and helpful! The garage is staffed by mechanics all wearing a standard uniform, and despite the fact they work on dirty, greasy cars all day, those uniforms aren't dingy and dirty, like some mechanics I've dealt with at other shops. They're all friendly and courteous, too. Jason, the service manager/location manager is super knowledgeable, friendly and eager to help. After several lengthy, enjoyable conversations about cars, I can tell this guy has years of experience, don't let his youthful appearance fool you. I had taken my former 2008 VW Rabbit here for a wheel balance, after detecting vibration at speeds between 65-70mph, as well as to deal with a dash warning light indicating a bulb failure that I couldn't detect. They quickly determined that two of the 40 brake-light bulbs had burnt out, one on each side (why I couldn't detect it, since my brake lights still came on, just not as vividly), and replaced them both, only charging me for one bulb! They also found that not only was one wheel (right front) way out of balance, the left tire had a large bubble on the sidewall, and was a safety issue and should be replaced ASAP. He also informed of that all 4 tires had bad dry rot, and were close to the replacement wear indicators, and that he could replace either the one tire with bubble, or all 4. He also said he could get the same tires or different ones. I like to research my tires online before buying, and usually purchase my tires via Tire Rack and he informed me that was fine, and that I could have them shipped directly to Hilltop Exxon for convenience! Very cool! I also chose to carefully drive the car home, and guess what? The tire with the bubble only made it half way home! Jason was right! It was a ticking time-bomb and I'm thankful they'd found that issue and instead of it flatting on the highway, I was heading home (Adam's Morgan) and going a slow 25mph. I put on my spare tire, went home and ordered a set of new tires. The next day they were delivered to Hilltop Exxon, and within 45 mins of dropping off the car, I got a call from Jason informing me my car was ready. My VW suddenly handled more nimbly, felt more planted (despite the tires needing break-in miles for full traction) and the vibration at highway speeds was gone! Another thing very worth mentioning... at no time did Jason try to up-sell me on anything. He pointed out a few minor things that will need service later on, but informed me none of them were serious and all cases had a decent chunk of miles left in their life-spans, and just wanted me to keep it in mind over time. Very helpful and informative. I highly and heartily recommend Hilltop Exxon/Metro Motors for your service and repairs, as well as for fueling up, or even just stopping in to grab a soda or snack from the shop! Beg to differ with the other reviewer of Hilltop Exxon. Went in for an oil change and they told me I needed a coolant fluid flush and new brake pads. Only thing is, I had the pads replaced six months before. When I took the car to my regular mechanic, he remarked that the wheel lug nuts had not been removed, so the mechanic never even checked brake pad wear before recommending replacement.
