the student hairstylist was great. however I did not receive the cut I wanted nor the style. it was the instructors who were awful. they all stood up front and were talking to each other. when my stylist asked for a final review of my hair she told the stylist she trusted what she did and did not review my style. I understand the reasonable prices but after going there for the last five years, it appears the school has gone down hill. I would rather pay more and receive the style and professionalism. read more

So far I've had two spa experiences at Xenon. Both were with the same aesthetician and they were both great experiences. My first was a lactic acid peel, and she was really helpful throughout the whole experience, explaining each step what she was doing. There was a good balance of talking and silence, both times were incredibly relaxing experiences. My other favorite thing is they carry the Sanitas brand both for the spa product and to buy in the salon, I haven't been able to find it elsewhere outside of the spa I went to in Vail! I saw Sandra and I really thought that I loved my hair... she curled it for me and it looked pretty good! Until further investigation. The foils bled and there were horizontal bleach stripes and then the layers she put in my hair look absolutely awful! This place is completely obtuse. Customer Service talks a lot and does not listen. Appointments made were canceled by Xenon and rescheduled a week later for two women looking for cut and tone that were placed with two men in the barbershop section. Completely obtuse about how this was their mistake, just excuses about students calling off and only barbers being available for a week later appointment. Don't waste your time or cash. They are rude and treat you like a free maid service, and will take your shit from you when your not looking. This school got 10,000 from me in 4 months time you think they'd have a bit more respect or care towards their students but not atleast not the Esthetician class I was in and don't get me started on the "great" education i got .... The front desk is rude but that's not just to students - you just have to stop in sometime to see that yourself . The teachers weren't bad minus warren - she didn't care if you needed something for a treatment or not and god forbid if you told her she grabbed the wrong thing ---- I do have to say Chonis, Benner and Mueller we're always nice. They were too cheap to replace anything the chemicals peels we had to do towards the end of our class for the state checklist were not done properly. The preparation solution ran out and they didn't want to pay to replace it so they had us use something not intended for the chemical peel to lower the ph of the skin. They wouldn't replace the vitamin rich or vitamin c to put on the skin for after a Microderm or the chemical peels we just used the solar block. The microderms they have 2 machines but the old one only works half the time. They had a table in the first room that was literally hanging on by a single screw that they propped a box under to hold the end up. For the open house they had we had to clean - which I understand but how they did it was too much for students and not a cleaning service. They had us stay in the small wax room gave us a rug and rubbing alcohol to scrub the floors we had asked for mask but only got them about an hour or 2 later when we told them the small room and rubbing alcohol was starting to make us feel sick. Needless to say we then got the masks and told there was more to do and when we started to sing or make jokes we got yelled at for being too loud or the smell disturbing to the client they decided could come in the wax room - while we were still cleaning read more

Took 2 hours to do my hair, but it came out absolutely beautiful! My makeup, however, was very disappointing. I wish I had time to wash it off and just do it myself afterwards but my wedding day was running behind schedule. It wasn't HORRIBLE or anything - just disappointing that I'd waste the time to have it done by someone else to such subpar standards. To be completely honest, I've done my own makeup better on any given day of the year after watching a few Youtube tutorials. Definitely get your hair done here, but skip the makeup! Great prices! I got a haircut & highlights for only $45! The girl who did my hair was very friendly and nice. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because it was kind of busy (for a Wednesday morning), and I had to wait for a long time while my stylist went to find an instructor, and she didn't offer to get me a magazine while I waited. Not a big deal, but I did get kind of bored with nothing to look at but the other patrons. So, I have a regular stylist who cares for my hair needs, but in a crazy New Year's resolution moment to be more frugal I decided to give Xenon a go. Compare the $45 Xenon cut and color to the $110 cut and color I was paying. With that said.... It actually turned out quite well and worth the $65 savings. Granted, if I decide to go this route again, I'll be assigned a different student (who may have even less than the six weeks of training my gal had), but you know what....it's hair. well, this is a beauty school, so beware, you never know what you might get. I tried once, unsuccessfully to have a beehive done for the Groundhog Prom. The poor student I had didn't even know how to do an "up do". I had to go home and wash my hair afterwards. What I love about Xenon is there nail section. I love to get a pedicure here. They are cheap, I think $20 and you get a bottle of polish. Who can beat that. They also have the spa pedicure for maybe $5 more. Again, they are students so you never know, but how bad can it be? Got lightener in my daughters eye the other day and the girl learning didn't really know what to do. I would give it this rating because I had to make an appointment two times, my original was last Friday and I had to have it cancelled because both times the student became unavailable and on the day of my "second" appointment at 12:45 they call me at 12:20 saying "I know this is short notice but our student became unavailable AGAIN," they finally did my haircut at 4o'clock (pm) but I came in for a cut and dye to lighten my hair (which I know is a process but I was excited to start the journey) but they didn't even want to start on my hair, didn't even try because they said they didn't have the correct products to lighten my hair from a box dye that I did nine months ago.... so you are telling me that a professional place can't lighten your hair from a previous box dye from nearly a year ago? Anyways cheap haircut, it looks decent for the price. The customer service was decent, student was very skilled, but I don't think I'll be going back, super unprofessional, And not only that but also i was extremely disappointed that they couldn't even try to lighten my hair or do a process w/ me, all they wanted to do was a repair on my hair even though they only had to take off less than 1.5 to 2 inches of dead hair for my trim and complimented how strong my hair is by their pull test... if I knew that I was just going to get a haircut and not the diet or the process of the dye, I would not have gone there, I would've went to somewhere else over a week ago when I had my first appointment cancelled on me... oh I also wanted to add that my hair was ombré, before I box dyed it, and its now a light Carmel brown, so if they can't lighten a light brown, don't go if you have darker! read more

Went in to get my outgrowth colored, which comes in gray. Kerigan Hoffman was phenomenal. Not only did she get those pesky grays covered but she's also very sweet and makes you feel so comfortable in her chair. I love this place for what it is: a cheap place to pamper yourself. I realize there is some stigma surrounding a place where your services are done by students. In all honesty, all the times I have been there -- I have never had a service that turned out less than desired. I started going here after a series of bad services at the salon I regularly went to. I went and got my eyebrows waxed at my salon (Before this, I would just tweeze them, but it's time consuming) It was a complete waste of money since my stylist did such a horrible job that it literally looked like she didn't take any hair! I had to go home and tweeze them myself. 20 dollars wasted! The last straw came when my stylist cut my hair way shorter than I told her to. I told her I wanted my hair shoulder length. She cut it 2 to 2 1/2 inches shorter. I literally went out to my car and wept. I hated it and I just dropped 55 dollars. That's when a friend of mine suggested Xenon. The one thing I love about Xenon is their prices. They are literally so cheap that even if you don't get a great haircut or service, at least you're not out a ton of money. Also, I have found that since you are not going to a salon that tries to get through as many customers as possible -- that the students actually take their time with you. They go slow and do things at a pace at which they are comfortable. They always ask for input as well. When I got my eyebrows waxed at my regular salon my stylist spent maybe 3 minutes doing it. When I went to Xenon, the student spent probably 15 minutes meticulously doing it so there weren't any wild hairs left behind. For the first time ever, I didn't have to tweeze my eyebrows! The only reason why I am giving them 4 stars is that if you book a mani/pedi they do the mani WHILE doing the pedi. You have 2 students. One doing your mani and the other doing your pedi. Since I was in a massage chair and definitely had it on during my pedi, the mani turned out slightly sketchy just because I was moving due to the vibration of the chair. I don't believe it was any fault of the student. I wish they did do them at separate times but its not a huge deal. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. read more

I wanted to get my eyebrows waxed, eyebrows and lashes tinted, and a haircut. A friend recommended Xenon because the prices were good and she was always pleased w/how she looked. It was my first time and I am so happy about the results! The woman who checked me in (I don't remember her name) managed to get me in right away even though I was a walk-in. Courtland, the student who cut my hair and did my lashes and brows, was amazing! He took a lot of time asking me questions about what I was looking for and listened to my requests. He looked at my brows and said that they may only need to be tinted... which was spot on. Courtland took his time which each of the procedures and the results show it. I've tried to make 2 separate hair appointments here, on 2 separate occasions only to (both times) receive a call saying the person they had me with was suddenly unavailable. I know it's a school as well, but I don't get why they would offer ME the time and schedule me for it, when I didn't even request a time, I just accepted what they had given me. It's very unprofessional and very disheartening as my wedding is in 4 weeks and this was the only time to get my hair done when we are on a tight budget. I very recently had a bikini wax by a student. I was her first client. She was horrible in her method. I had had a bikini wax in late September and was basically instructing her in proper hygiene based upon the previous student's expertise. Instead of one swift motion thereby making the technique less painful, she pulled small sections at a time making the process unbearably painful. After a brief time she said "Okay we're done." I didn't recall my previous experience lasting such a short amount of time and I never cried out either. When I did a self check, I verified what I had suspected - she did an incomplete job. When I pointed this out to her, she said she would go get her instructor. Her instructor gave her advice regarding completion of the waxing. When all was complete. The same instructor showed me the charges. She had crossed out the initial category of basic bikini wax and crossed out the $25 charge and scribbled on the charge sheet $35. I protested and asked her why she charged me more AFTER the fact instead of informing me of why she was charging me more. I was not prepared to pay extra for what she called an "Extreme Wax" which was more costly and she added "we're really not supposed to be doing them anyway." As if I had any of this information beforehand. I told her about my previous experience and that the student charged according to the preprinted list of services and their related charges. The instructor was completely void of logic. Meanwhile, I continued to the desk and paid the charge according to what I was scheduled for. The ladies at the desk do not know the first thing about respecting the customer and realizing the customer is the bread and butter of their business. Approximately 4 ladies all bitched in unison about the extra $5 I "should" pay. I argued even though they were running a 50% off this particular service, they had no right charging me extra without my expressed agreement. In addition, the charge for this "Extreme" form of wax was not even listed on the charge sheet. If the instructor had scribbled in $50 would I also be expected to pay that amount, I asked. The bait and switch was not something I was going to be bullied into. I, therefore, paid the original amount not the ambiguous amount, left a 20% tip and exited the school. Later on I received a phone call around dinnertime and was told that unless I paid the $5.00, I would not be able to keep my cut and color appointment with a particular student the following day. I was told this was agreed to by the school's director. All this for $5.00. I am not a new client there. It seems illogical to prevent me from keeping my appointment, thereby foregoing future profits and withholding credit hours needed for graduation from that particular student. The people there are short of logic or short of funds! Or, perhaps, just plain greedy and mean! read more

They were all wonderful.. Our daughter is allergic to anything with wheat in it and she is losing her hair due to this problem with wheat. They were so good with the product selection and so careful to give her a cut that made her hair look thicker. Love this place. I guess that I will need to move to Omaha to get this kind of care. I've had everything from all over color to highlights and hair cuts done here. I have always been happy with how I walked out the door. The stylists are trainees and I tend to request a senior student. All of the work they do is pre approved by their instructor and then checked over and "edited" if need be by them as well. I've never had the instructor not add a little something, such as evening out a cut. My only negative experience was a head full of too bright highlights that the instructor quickly showed me and the student how it could be toned out. I left looking just fine. Would recommend for simple processes- all over color, basic style, cuts. Only go if you are not in a hurry- they are students and everything is getting checked off by teachers and will take you twice the time it usually would in a professional salon. read more

I have been a long time customer with Xenon. Devyn M was my student for the day 6-26-20. She did a fantastic job on my color service and haircut. I have dark hair and it had a long grow out of grey hair with the extended salon closures in Nebraska due to COVID19. Needless to say I have been very anxious to have my color retouch! I have long, thick, dark hair with a good wave pattern to it so it can be difficult to get it to lay right when cutting. I really appreciated the care that she took to cut my hair and she was not afraid to call over an instructor to assistance when she was unsure. Often you find students want to come across as confident and will make mistakes because they are too proud to ask for help from their instructor. I was impressed with her maturity in doing so and have an appointment set up in 6 weeks to have color retouched again. My cut pulled a good amount of weight from my hair and it is looking fabulous! I've never had a bad experience here and the instructors dedication shows in their knowledgeable students. Thank you for the work you do because the service industry is not an easy one to work in and it takes a special person to do it, take it from one who knows. My experience was not so wonderful. Went for just a haircut. I'm 65 - My hair is parted on side, collar length, layered, gray. I wanted it cut shorter, still layered, asymmetrical. Since I had been to Xenon many times before, I told the phone receptionist when I called for an appointment that I needed a stylist that could cut quite a bit off my hair (over 1 inch). I realize these are students. I told the student I had several colics, wanted the back corners rounded not blunt cut and the top was usually cut asymmetrical - could she do that? She said yes. I made small talk about how long she'd been at the school, how she liked it, how many haircuts she'd done, and getting water in my ears during the hair wash. She didn't seem to want to talk, so we didn't while she cut the back of my hair - then said she had to get the instructor. I thought for review. The instructor said I was rude to the student and made her cry. I didn't know what she was talking about and asked what I did - she didn't or couldn't tell me. I apologized to the student for making her cry - she said it was OK. She went to cut again, then she went to get the instructor again. The instructor came again and started cutting on my hair. I had been there 45 minutes by this time and still had the top and sides to cut. She asked, "How does that look?" like it was done. I said fine and just wanted to leave with my wet half-haircut. She told me I was rude to her and should find another salon. Gladly! I paid, left with wet hair and half a haircut and went down the street to a salon that gives great haircuts. They got me right in and fixed me up as best they could. They told me to come back every 2 weeks for a cut until the holes in the back of my hair grew out. I didn't get a bargain - will pay for months! BEWARE! read more
