I Walked in and I was told wine tasting is for members only. "ok how do we sign up?" The employee proceeded to tell me " Well we only want members who support the store and by wine from us, then when can sign you up" I didn't know that I needed to buy wine in order to be apart of such a prestigious wine club. I didn't know I was buying a Rolex? So rude and the guy couldn't even care to give us the time of day. I totally get you want supporters, but I definitely will drive an extra 10 miles or order direct from my wine club for wine. The crazy part is I was referred here! We decided to come down the street to House of Oliver, and Josh took care of us. Welcoming and very friendly. I was able to enjoy a glass of Caymus, go figure. read more

Marcus is very lovely and knowledgeable! I needed a few bottles of wine last minute and didn't get a chance to stop by the shop to make my selection. When I called Marcus, he clearly understood what I was looking for, enough for me to trust him to choose the bottles for me. In addition, because I was having dinner next door at Hawks and didn't make it in time to grab them from the shop, he had it boxed up and waiting for me at Hawks. The selection is phenomenal, versatile and well priced. My favorite is that they support and have bottles from small production wineries, you know you're bound to enjoy a fine bottle of wine. :) read more

The proprietor was rude from the moment we walked in! Said we had to be members to enjoy the wine bar, so we asked what that entailed. He responded with "you have to be customers". We asked if we purchased some wine would we be considered customers. He then said that that was not how it worked and that he was busy getting a shipment ready for Fed Ex and totally dismissed us. I have been buying wine from Capitol Cellars for over 15 years. Marcus carries a great selection and he is extremely knowledgeable. e.g. I am a KC Chiefs fan and he turned me on to Bidwell Creek which is owned by the Hunt family (Owners of the Chiefs). Barely got to step foot inside and wouldn't ever stay. This place needs to consider who it employs. Plenty of other places to enjoy wine, don't waste your money here. The employee was extremely rude. For not knowing who I am (customer etc ) or what my plan was, he sure lost out on business. Good job dude. My step brother told me about this place! I decided to check it out & I'm so glad I did! I met the owner Marcus & he was so helpful & knowledgeable about wines. I ended up leaving with more than I intended but was so excited to try new wines out. He showed me some good wines and very special prices also. My brother even wanted a case of post & Beam cab. Marcus shipped his wine to him. I was extremely happy with Marcus & his store. I will be back for sure. Great experience!! read more

I'm visiting from Southern California and was told I'm not allowed inside because this winery is open to MEMBERS ONLY, just FYI. It is not open to the public, but this seems to contradict other comments about people just walking in, unless the employee who answered their phone was not being honest, but that doesn't make sense either. read more

Marcus - the owner, is very knowledgeable about wine. He asks the right questions to understand your taste in wine and your budget. He has a small tasting bar and serves several of the wines that he sells. It's an upscale place with a "wine centric" atmosphere. (as it should be) I like the statue of the dog, it looks so real. You will learn more about wine here, than you will in a large wine retail store. It's also a nice quiet place to relax. read more

I went in to grab a bottle of wine for a housewarming gift. I was lucky to run into Marcus, the owner. He took the time to explain to me the differences between wines, why people like certain types of wine, and even went out of his way to gift wrap the bottle of wine & print notes on the bottle of wine. Personally, I don't drink alcohol, but the customer service and his willingness to explain everything was incredible. Went to lunch at Hawks, peeked at the wine shop and decided to go in. I was greeted by an incredibly friendly and super adorable poodle retriever mix, and a knowledgeable woman who didn't hesitate to fill me in on everything I needed to know about the different kinds of wines they offer as well as the specialty ports and Sherry's. There is a place outside that you can sit and drink the wine that you purchased, with a beautiful view. This is definitely a specialty wine shop, they specialize in expensive and rare bottles.. So prepare to drop a good amount of money if shopping here. I purchased a delicious tawny port, out the door for 28 bucks.. Prices slightly inflated but it was delicious. The decor on the inside and out was very nice, great place to come if you want to impress a date. read more

I have been to this location of Capitol Cellars a few times now, and it is always an enjoyable experience! The first time we went in, it was super crowded and there was nowhere to sit. One of the nice ladies working there brought in a patio table right away so that we would have a place to enjoy our wine--great customer service! Since then, it has never been crowded when I have been in, but the wine and atmosphere continue to be top notch! While the wines by the glass can be pretty pricey, they often have deals on flights which is a great way to try many new wines and get a little more bang for your buck. It is also nice that they often have winemakers from different regions come in with their wines. You get to taste their wines while also learning a little bit too :) Another plus is that you can order food from the neighboring restaurants (Pete's brewhouse, Source, and Hawks) and they will deliver it to you at Capitol Cellars! We have done this a couple of times now, and it works out great. read more

This is hands down the best place to get some wine. Marcus does an amazing job listening to what you like, helping you get to the bottle you want. If you need a cheap wine under $40 he can help. If you need a standout bottle and have more room to spend, you will be amazed at how much you can get. Five stars is not enough to capture how friendly and awesome Marcus is. Seen some bad reviews about the owner, and couldn't agree. He just isn't a nice person at all. He was mean the whole time, and yelled and cursed out my kids who were harmlessly hanging out in a quad always from the business. Couldn't be more disappointed and never will go there and don't waste your money. read more

Went in there with a girlfriend who was ready to spend a substantial amount of money on wine. Since I was not, when it came time to tasting they did not even offer me a glass! Not even a sip! If you're planning to go in there and spend a ton of money, good for you. Otherwise, save your money and go elsewhere! Never going back to such rudeness. read more

We stumbled in here a while back, before our dinner date next door. I had recalled reading their hours and tasting hours online, but apparently the website was not updated as Marcus was intending to close up right as we walked in..... He was the most welcoming and gracious host, it was as if we had stumbled thirsty into his own living room. For $15 he set us up with two individual and customized wine flights, catering to our personal preferences and then branching out from there to introduce us to wines we might discover and enjoy. He knew the backstory of every bottle and you just knew that he not only loved wine, but his work and the people he could share it with! Go here if you know nothing or everything about wine. Their inventory is impressive. I've brought my young children in here to pick up a bottle, only with a death-grip on their arms, so they don't accidentally knock something and I have to buy a $300 puddle. The night we went, we walked away with a great $50 bottle, and our tasting fees waved. That might be an exception, but the ultimate message was that Capitol Cellars cares about wine, but also their customers! read more
