Avoid at all costs. They will destroy your clothing. Had not used this dry cleaner for about eight years after they ruined a garment of mine. I recently tried them again and deeply regret it. I'm in literal tears. They absolutely destroyed a BRAND NEW very expensive dress. It came back with a tag on the hanger advising that they were not able to remove spots without harming the garment. I thought, "What spots???" I had only worn the dress twice and I only decided to clean it because I was going to store it for winter. It wasn't dirty and it didn't have any "spots" when I brought it in for "cleaning." Tears welled in my eyes as I examined my beautiful floor length dress. There were blue splotches all over the garment, the bodice the back of the skirt, the collar. I tried it on and found that it no longer gently swept the floor as I walked. They shrank the dress and now the skirt is three inches higher and sleeves are too short to button. They are clothing destroyers. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

Where do I even start with The Press DC? If you're looking for a place to wreck your clothes rather than clean them, look no further. I dropped off my girlfriend's favorite red blazer, a gorgeous (and not cheap!) leather jacket, and a comfy sweater. All three came back looking like they survived some apocalyptic fashion showdown. Leather Jacket: Once sleek and stylish, now it's literally flaking off like it lost a fight with a cheese grater. Red Blazer: Perfect if you want random splotches and stains as a new design aesthetic. (Spoiler alert: We didn't.) Sweater: Ever seen those horror movies with mysterious stains? Pretty sure they drew inspiration from whatever got splattered on this poor sweater. The real kicker? No one from The Press DC bothered to say, "Hey, heads up, we're absolutely annihilating your garments. Maybe you should come pick them up before we do more damage!" Instead, I got them back ruined--and with zero explanation. I guess common courtesy isn't part of their business model. Look, I get that mistakes happen, but what really sets me off is the total lack of communication. A quick phone call, email, carrier pigeon, something--just to say, "We've got a little problem here," would've been the bare minimum. Now I'm out some once-beautiful pieces and the money I paid to have them "cleaned." Spoiler: I'm demanding a refund because, at this point, that's the least they could do. The entire experience was so ridiculously bad that it's almost funny--except it's my girlfriend's clothes on the line, so it's not exactly the kind of "fun" we're looking for. Long story short: If you value your wardrobe (or your relationship, because who wants to explain this mess to their partner?), do yourself a favor and avoid The Press DC like the plague. However, the stain was still very clear. Perhaps dry cleaning can't get rid of everything, but when I got home, wiping it down with water made the stain go away. Despite multiple visits to the shop and calls with the owner and commitments to return it, they have not returned it. They do not answer calls or provide any information. Do NOT go here. I dropped my clothes off on a Saturday and was told they'd be ready by Wednesday. I came back the next Saturday (1 week later and 3 days after my quoted date), and I was told they weren't ready. Instead, they told me to come back the next day. Then, I come back Sunday and receive three shirts. The only problem is I dropped off four shirts, and my receipt also shows I dropped off four shirts. At this point, the woman at the counter gets an attitude with me saying maybe I made a mistake. After some back-and-forth, the woman says there is not any phone number I can call and no manager to reach out to. I just moved into Arlington and into my apartment. I had 3 places to choose from which these companies pick-up and drop-off for conveniency. For new customers, you fill out the brochure with your name and cc info. That will be on file for the laundry company and they'll bill you each month with the total bill. Probably help saves them on processing fees. I'm not too happy with the results we got back. I dry cleaned eleven button up men's dress shirts and asked for medium starched. It wasn't as pressed as I would like it to. The sleeves weren't clipped together to prevent from further wrinkles. Back home where I'm from (New Orleans) the edges on the sleeve would be so crisp and would last for days without any touch up from the iron. The sleeves were always clipped together and it was half the price they charge here! I'm going to try other places bc there's so many too choose from! Guys! I have an update on this review. After posting this review, one of the Press employee Jay called me to explain to me that bc I did not want the buttoned shirts launder (bc BF does not want any risk of shirts shrinking), the starch would not work. Idk how this process dry clean works and I'll admit to that. I just want shirts dry clean and ironed to the full crisp effect. Lol Jay comped all of it and even offered to re-do my clothes! This is my new dry cleaner and I'm never switching, ever! When you walk in, you may notice a handy little board that has lots of cool community announcements on it from the Capitol Hill area. Super nifty. They also sell lint combs and related little items, which is great when you don't want to order some big thing from Amazon. They listen to you when you describe what needs to be cleaned and always do a thorough job. If there is something they don't think will come out or that they'll be able to do a great job on, they have the courtesy to let you know in advance so you can decide whether you would like to proceed. I had three pair of pants all over $100 apiece recently cleaned. The pants are shorter (shrunk). The hems of the pants were still dirty in addition, the pants had hard creases down the middle. When I first opened an account with the Press, I thought it was a nice trendy-feeling place for a dry cleaner. The tagged laundry bag they give to new customers was nice touch. The small alterations I've had done like hemming and the like came back fine though one job did eventually pop a stitch. My most recent transaction with this business has completely reversed my positive feelings on this business as it shows what horrible accountability they have. Every year I have all my sweaters dry cleaned in preparation for cold weather. Since I always wear a shirt underneath them when I wear them, in order to preserve the fabric, I don't like to have them cleaned more than necessary. I brought 16 sweaters to the Press to be cleaned, which they confirmed. I didn't realize until I took them home that I only left with 15 sweaters, which they have also confirmed. To be clear, they know and have confirmed in their systems that they lost one of my sweaters. It has been around 2 months talking to a number of employees and even the owner, who is now refusing to call me back to follow through with my request for him to pay for a replacement. It was an orange Everlane cashmere sweater which was roughly $100. Not terribly expensive, but that's why this is so frustrating. The fact that the owner will not pay a small amount of money to replace something that they obviously lost on their watch is beyond infuriating. They should be glad I'm not extremely attached to my clothes or that, like most cashmere sweaters, it wasn't worth 5 times what it is. Otherwise, I would be taking them to small claims court. Alas, all they've lost in this transaction is my business, which the owner may have calculated was cheaper for him than the replacement cost. My advice is to find another dry cleaner that has accountability for their service. As long as you don't mind possibly losing an expensive garment, feel free to go to the Press. read more

DO NOT USE - TERRIBLE! I have been attempting to retrieve my dress since August 19, 2019. I was first told by an employee that the products they use will sometimes leave a pink hue on white garments, and was later told that the brand itself bleeds (Tommy Hilfiger). I faithfully used their concierge service and spent at least $100 each month. I have called and emailed numerous times over the past 3 months and I have yet to speak with a manager (per my request), or receive my dress. In fact, I called on October 23rd and spoke to Shelby who advised that she had texted her manager, Jay, and that he would call me back within an hour. That never happened. I called back in a week and Shelby advised that the dress in now "at the cleaning institute in Maryland." This is the absolute worst customer service that I have ever received. I write the letter with great sadness, my hope is that I would have been treated as a valued customer, but instead, The Press Dry Cleaning at 619 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, Washington, DC 20003 took my money and did not provide me with the alteration service that I paid $26.44. Here is some background, on Saturday, October 16, 2019, at 1:02 PM, I went to the mentioned location to have a pair of pants altered in the waistline. The female that was working on that day asked me to try the pants on to capture the measurements, so I complied. However, I did find it odd that she did not place any safety-pins or identify where to stop with a white chalk marker (I am a petite person, so most of my items require alterations). So, I asked the female repeatedly, should you place pins or mark where the alterations should be made to outline my body. The female replied, no I am putting all the measurements in the system for the tailor. This was my first visit to The Press Dry Cleaning establishment, and I trusted the process. The female that took my measurements assured me that if there is a problem, she would contact me if I did not hear from her there are no concerns. I returned to The Press Dry Cleaning on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 1:46 PM to pick up my pants. I was in a rush, so I did not try the pants on after paying $26.44. I told The Press Dry Cleaning staff member that I will try the pants on when I get home, if I have any concerns, I will give them a call. This where everything falls apart. Later that evening, I tried the pants on, only to learn the pants were pressed only and the alteration service that I paid for had not been performed. Feeling disappointed because a couple of weeks had already past, I was reluctant to go through the process all over again. I called The Press Dry Cleaning to informed them that I did not receive the service that I paid for and that my pants still need to be altered. The person that answered the phone asked me to return the pants for alteration and that I will not be charged. I replied, "fair enough, okay, I will bring my pants in to have altered." On Saturday, November 30, 2019, at 1:30 PM, feeling frustrated with the process, I returned to The Press Dry Cleaning with my pants, the plastic cover, and all of my receipts. Instead, of dropping my pants off again, I asked to be refunded and stated that I preferred to have my pants altered someplace else. This is when I realized I was being cheated out of the money. The Press Dry Cleaning staff member stated that she has to call her manager in order to refund. She sent a text to her manager (Je Kang), and follow-up with a call (703) 280-1725. The manager instructed her not to give me a refund, and that he will mail me a check. I was completely disappointed with the manager's approach to resolving the situation and wanted to transfer the accountability to the Post Office (meaning, the manager can say he/she mailed the check if I did not get it, the manager no longer responsible for the outcome). As of today, Friday, December 6, 2019, I have not received my refund. I have not had any forms of communication from The Press Dry Cleaning establishment, they basically took my money and failed to honor the process of refunding me for their hiccup. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CLOTHES TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE. THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY, AND IF FOR ANY REASON YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED, YOU WILL TAKE THE LOST AND THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY. I FEEL BULLIED, CHEATED OUT OF MY MONEY AND TREATED POORLY. Let me start by saying that everyone who works here is very nice and friendly when I talk with them. Also, my complaint is for the Wharf DC location, but they're not listed in Yelp. The first part of my one star rating is because they have ruined my shirts three times with chemical stains on the fabric, and this last time was my $110 custom-made shirt (see photo) that I had only worn twice. The second part is their responsiveness. Every time they ruin my shirts it takes them weeks to get back to me with a resolution, and that's only after my repeated phone calls and store visits. For this last incident, I took my ruined shirt back on Jan 17 and was told that someone would contact me within 48 hours. It's been two weeks and two days, five calls to the Wharf store, two calls to calls to the home delivery number and I have yet to be contacted. The store employees have confirmed that the owner/manager knows about the issue and that I'm trying to get in touch, so they are choosing not to contact an upset customer. That is terrible customer service. Once I get my cost reimbursed for this shirt, I will never use The Press again for anything. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH ANYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT!! Late July - Dropped off expensive drapes for cleaning after calling to make certain they could accomplish the task. I was told the cleaning would take two weeks. Mid-August - I stopped by, and the drapes were not done. End of August - finally done, but I got them home and noticed brown spots and long brown scratches, in additional extreme wrinkles (I took pictures to be compared to a video I have from pre-drop off showing they were NOT present when I dropped them off) I spoke to the manager - who said she would try to fix it, and the drapes should be done at the beginning of October. I went back the second week of October after work travel - still not done, and no phone call about the status. I tried to call the last two weeks - won't answer my phone calls at the shop, and the manager won't answer or return my calls/requests to find a resolution. An employee finally called today to say that the drapes are ready, but the stains are from sun damage (not true, and I have video evidence). It is entirely unacceptable to ignore a loyal customer of three years, but looking at other reviews, this seems to be standard protocol. read more

This review is for alterations: I am sure they are great for dry cleaning and laundry. However, if you are getting something altered (more than a button sewn or a dropped hem fixed) I would not take it here--mostly because they send out their tailoring to be done by someone off-site. So, the person in the shop measuring you and marking the alterations is NOT the person who will be making the adjustments. When I brought two dresses to be fixed (one for a bustline issue, one just to be hemmed) I was quoted about 100 for these changes to be made--absurd. The guy marked the hem with chalk when I was still bent over trying to show him where I wanted the hem to hit: when I straightened up, it obviously was not in the same place--it's not a big deal, it just showed his inexperience when it comes to tailoring and alterations. At the next place I brought my dress to be hemmed, the guy obviously knew what he was doing. He didn't seem uncomfortable touching my dress when I was in it, he knew where he should fall by finding the right spot on my knee and quoted me a much more reasonable price. read more

This is hands-down the nicest, most pleasant dry cleaner I've ever been to. I took a suit, a blouse, and a leather purse to be cleaned on a Saturday, and got the suit/blouse back on Tuesday, even with a hem put on the skirt. All of the pieces look great, including the alteration, and those three things only cost $15.50 for the cleaning. The outsource their leather cleaning to someone who comes once a week, so I should hear back about cleaning my purse tomorrow. The front staff is very friendly, and the interior of the shop is really cute. I left a lipgloss in my suit jacket, and they were nice enough to put it in a little plastic bag attached to my garment bag. It's nothing like the places you go and can see the hundreds of garments they have and the working bits of the building. I highly recommend it! read more

I needed to dry clean my favorite Canada Goose winter coat and had anxiety with parting for it just for a few days. I called all the dry cleaners in the area and asked them: 1. whether they had a guarantee? 2. what the cost would be? The Press Dry Cleaning & Laundry came up on top when I was the told the cost was only ~$20! By far the cheapest in the area with a guarantee! Furthermore, as a first time customer I was able to get 10% off. Moreover, when I received my coat back, it wasn't completely clean because there were 2 minor spots that remained on the arms, but overall I was happy nothing was damaged and much cleaner then before. I would definitely come back and trust them to dry clean my other more valuable clothes. The staff was helpful and nice. I was driving and would not arrive to the store until exactly 8PM when they closed, so I called them, and they told me they would prepare it for me so that I could pick it up exactly at 8PM, and that's exactly what they did! DC has no shortage of dry cleaners, and my prior dry cleaning experiences while living in Seattle (the land of no formal clothing) were limited to the occasional cocktail dress. Now that I wear dry-clean-only seven days a week, I needed a reliable dry cleaner, and I admittedly picked The Press at first because it was the only place open on a Sunday afternoon. I keep going back to them week after week because the customer service is top-notch, their pricing is transparent (I get the estimate when I drop OFF my clothes as opposed to a mystery bill when picking them up), and as others have mentioned, the store is immaculate and welcoming. The guy who owns this store is awesome. When I was in a pinch to get a particular suit cleaned overnight (not possible), he offered to at least press the corresponding shirt right there on the spot. I decided to use the occasion as an excuse to go shopping for a new outfit (hey, I'm a girl) and he laughed and (nicely) teased me about it the next time I went back. I had been going to a $2 place because well, it was cheap and I get my clothes the same day. Well my husband had so many shirts ruined we were in search of good dry cleaning. Found the press through Yelp and it has been great. No more mis-pressed shirts or broken buttons. They get all of the food stains and hair gel out of my clothes. My bill has increased dramatically but you get what you pay for. Most of the prices seem reasonable but the cost of cleaning my dresses is $10. That's pretty steep. The staff is really personable. They remember your name even after the first visit. They are also open Sunday which makes it easy to stop in while running errands or before brunch. read more

There are some things that only some people like, such as dive bars and really spicy food, and some things that everyone likes, like a dry cleaner that (1) doesn't suck, (2) is open until 8 pm M-F, and (3) open past noon on BOTH Saturday and Sunday. The Press falls into the latter category of something that everyone likes with zero caveats. It's the holy grail of dry cleaning/alterations/shoe repair. I haven't found a one stop shop for all of my laundry needs in...ever. This place is amazing. Not only is their pricing under market in every respect (plus a 10% discount for newbies), their customer service is spot on and their work is fantastic. I have now brought in a couple items for alterations -- nothing too fancy but you never really know how these things will turn out -- and everything has been done exactly as requested. I've also asked them to do some minor touch-ups on a few of my higher end items, including a Miu Miu dress that hadn't been cleaned or fixed in far too long due to my apprehension, and received them back in perfect condition. This past weekend, after their power went out, the owner called everyone whose items would be delayed to let them know of the situation. As the other reviewers mentioned, he remembers your name after you've been there just once, and often solicits feedback on how they can improve. He rattled off the list of my items that were delayed and offered to return to me anything that I needed urgently the next day. Most recently, I brought in a white Proenza Schouler dress that had yellowed due to a combination of a weird fabric blend (there's metal, yes, metal, in it) or incorrect dry cleaning in the past, or both. I wasn't expecting much but just asked that the folks at the Press just try their best and I got it back with almost all of the yellowish tint gone. By the way, I took this same dress many miles out of my way to one of the very few 4 star (yelp rated) dry cleaners in Manhattan and received it back in pretty much the exact same condition. The cobbler to whom they outsource seems to do great work, and they are transparent about their pricing with him which I certainly appreciate. I brought in a pair of dirtied leather chanel pumps with leather wrapped heels that I'd managed to scrape off, and got them back a week or two later with as good of a patch job as I'd ever seen for a non-exorbitant price ($20 total). The owner explained their pricing with him, including the tip that they include, and went over the cobbler's work with me. I haven't yelped in maybe a year or so but I thought it was worth my while to figure out my password again just to review the Press's dry cleaning, alteration, and shoe repair. Good businesses deserve patronage and the Press has definitely earned mine. This review was a bit name-droppy so probably sounded slightly douchey but it's relevant to know that they can be trusted with high quality investment pieces and not just the stuff from mass retailers. read more

I went to Press and although it was nice, I brought in a silk sleeveless shirt to get a faint grease-stain removed. I pointed out the stain and the rep said that it would not be a problem. I got the shirt back ($5.15 with a 10% new customer discount) and the stain was still there. To be fair, I am a perfectionist when it comes to my work clothes and the stain is faint, but there was no improvement on the condition of the stain. As for customer service, at drop off and pick up they were definitely not rude, but were as friendly or attentive. Just passively doing their job. Loving The Press! So far I've brought in a comforter and a my winter coat. The owner gave me a discount on both! The comforter came back perfect and fluffy and in a handy carrying case. My cream colored coat went though a lot this winter, but came back looking like new! However, The Press Dry Cleaning has me reconsidering my less than surgical methods. I took a pair of dearly beloved shoes from Target in to get repaired and spent 7$ for the fix--a full 2$ more than the shoes cost, but who's keeping track? The real kicker was 130$ for 11 dresses and 3 jackets, which comes out to just over 9$ an item, but hey, when I got them back, they didn't smell like aging Teen Spirit and they were perfectly pressed. Update: After a previously poor experience, the owner redeemed himself and his business. I appreciate the phone call and the additional service The Press provided. After seeing the great reviews on Yelp, I bought two vouchers on Gilt for The Press. Unfortunately I had a disappointing first experience. When I went to pick up my dry cleaning, I was charged an extra $5 than what my receipt indicated. When brought this to the attention of the attendant, she insisted that I owed more than my receipt. I asked to speak with the manager, who I was informed was not on location. The attendant then called the owner who was quite short with me, but nevertheless didn't make me pay the additional charge. I have to go back if I want to use the full value of my second voucher, but I'm not looking forward to it. read more

After having good experiences with The Press for over a year, this summer I noticed my bill for July was significantly higher than it should have been. When I called, I was told that the manager would call me back to fix the issue. He or she never did, even after I followed up several times. I decided to give The Press another chance and sent in a few items for dry cleaning last Tuesday. Normally, the order would be delivered on Thursday. Their pickup days in my building are Thursday, Saturday, and Tuesday. It is now Wednesday (3 dropoff days later) and I have not received my order. I called to inquire about the order status and was basically told that they don't know where my clothes are, and that I would receive a call back. I have not received a call. I am hoping to be contacted by management ASAP to get to the bottom of this matter - if not, this will certainly be the last time I consider using The Press. read more
