    Jerk Chicken and Oxtail meals
    Amanda P.

My sister and I always wanted to try Jamaican food, and so for the past few days we were trying to find good places. After doing some research, we saw this place and found it had all the things we wanted to try. We were able to get it delivered through Postmates, and the food surprising came quick (despite the stereotype on Jamaican restaurants). My sister had the oxtail with pasta salad (even though it was suppose to be potato salad), and I got the jerk chicken with mac and cheese. Overall, the food tasted great and filled us up well. The chicken had quite the dry heat, but that's only because I'm not usually a spict lover. I would definitely eat at this place again.

Ackee & saltfish with mac & cheese. Yummy!

Amazing Jamaican fare! The spices and sauces are authentic and not catered to the typical American palate. I loved the jerk chicken--the meat was perfectly smoked and the skin was rubbed with a nice spice mixture on top and underneath. I got the jerk sauce on the side to control the heat a little. The plantains were delicious and balanced the heat nicely. The curry was thick and had a sweet heat to it that I really enjoyed. The ackee and salt fish was served with peppers & onions and was nicely cooked. The fish was moist, flaky, and the salt level was perfect. I got mac & cheese with it, which was ooey gooey goodness! I just had take out today, but I will definitely be stopping in to try more items in person.

Jerk chicken with a side of rice n peas

I wanted something different lunch today. Saw Capow a few weeks back and was in the area. Ordered half jerk chicken and a side of rice n peas. The chicken is spicy the way jerk chicken is meant to be. I can taste the habanero flavor in the chicken. Im used to the red sauce being sweet to offset the heat if needed, that's spicy to lol. The rice n peas are spot on. All n all Peter does justice to his food. I'd eat here again.

Oxtails, Rice n Beans, along with Pasta Salad.

For my first time trying Jamaican food, this Capow's meal was actually bomb then I thought it would be. The oxtails were succulent and flavorful! I have an obsession with eating oxtails as a Viet-American when it's in pho, but this was my first time eating Jamaican-styled oxtails which I always want to try badly! The rice and beans were delicious even though I don't like having the beans included. There's a bit of a zing in which I reacted to, but that's okay. I can't handle spicy so. The only exception I would want to replace with is the pasta salad. I originally wanted potato salad, but it seems like they don't have it at that time. They replaced it with the pasta instead. It tastes okay, but I didn't wanted so I shared my sister's mac n cheese which as better. Also the red-colored sauce that's included was also bomb! I need to know what type of sauce that is because it's so good. Overall, this meal was amazing for first time!!! Reason why I only give four stars is because I might try other Jamaican places soon or later (no shade to this place.)

Best take out Jamaican/Caribbean food I've had since I moved to this area 13years ago. The curry chicken and the jerk chicken are my favorite things on the menu. The owners are super friendly and courteous. It's a fairly new establishment, buts it's well run and clean. I am never disappointed when I go here.

I mean, who needs a fancy restaurant when you can chow down on some delicious Jamaican cuisine while filling up your tank? I was on my way to Washington DC from Ottawa when I heard about this place and planned my whole route around it. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The owner and staff were super kind and accommodating when I asked for a mix of dishes so I could try a little bit of everything without getting stuffed. I ended up getting the oxtail with rice and peas, plantain, cabbage, and a piece of jerk. And let me tell you, every bite was like a party in my mouth. The rice had just a hint of coconut milk, the chicken was perfectly cooked and spiced, and the oxtail was so tender and juicy, I had to close my eyes to fully enjoy it. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a little adventure and a whole lot of flavor. The chef at Got Jerk! Island Grill knows what they're doing, and they're doing it inside a gas station - I mean, who knew? So the next time you need to fill up your tank and your belly, make a stop at this little slice of heaven. Who needs Michelin stars when you've got a Sunoco gas station with some seriously good food?

Since changing my diet and becoming more of a fitness fanatic -- nothing like the Philly Fanatic, but close -- I've been more selective about what I eat. Still, Philadelphia holds a special place in my heart, and when I got off the road and I was craving a cheesesteak. I couldn't find a good cheesesteak spot in the Harrisburg area. I remembered the place off 13th Street, but they no longer sell cheesesteaks and the restaurant has changed. So I switched gears and decided to get some fish instead. It was only 9:30 PM, and At Hookers Seafood & Fish -- an amazing place based off the consistency but it had already closed at 8 PM. Back on the hunt for food, I stumbled across Got Jerk Island Grill and Juice Bar in Midtown Harrisburg. The moment I walked in, it felt like I was teleported straight into the heart of Jamaica. Caribbean vibes everywhere -- lounge chair up front, Bob Marley on the walls, and a laid‑back atmosphere that made me feel like I should've had a coconut water in my hand. I talked to the chef and told him to give me his best dish. He served me curry chicken, rice and beans, sweet plantains, and cabbage. I have to say -- it was the best curry chicken I've ever had. The chicken was tender, cut perfectly, and shredded apart in my mouth. It fell right off the bone, and the curry had just the right amount of spice so you could still enjoy the full flavor of the meal. That's when I knew the chef knew exactly what he was doing and chose the right cut of meat.

So when I found myself in Carlisle for Ice Fest 2026, it felt like the perfect opportunity to stop in for an early dinner and finally see what all the buzz was about. Quick logistics note before we dive into the food: parking can be a bit tricky. Metered street parking is available but the area stays busy, so be prepared. The Pomfret Street Parking Garage and nearby lot are great backup options -- especially when you're walking in sub-zero temperatures and just want to get inside somewhere warm as quickly as possible. We walked in around 3pm and were the only guests at the time -- not surprising given the weather outside, but stepping into the warm, cozy interior felt like instant relief. The man behind the counter greeted us right away and was friendly and ready to help. After surveying the menu (and trying not to order one of everything), we decided to sample both the traditional Caribbean offerings and a nod to their hot dog roots. We ordered the Jerk Rib Platter ($16) with macaroni and cheese and cabbage as sides, plus a lemonade ($5). We also added a Hot Dog Combo with fries ($8) topped with chili, mustard, and onions, along with a Diet Pepsi. Total came to about $35 with tip, which felt reasonable. While our food was being prepared, the screen behind the counter kept lighting up with new online orders, so clearly we weren't the only ones with this place on our radar. Our food came out quickly and looked fantastic -- generous portions without being overwhelming, which was honestly refreshing. Jerk Ribs: Absolutely incredible. Moist, tender, fall-apart-in-your-mouth goodness. The jerk sauce added afterward brought a delicious balance of sweet heat that built gradually without crossing into "regret" territory. Perfectly done. Macaroni & Cheese: I do not say this lightly -- this might be the best macaroni and cheese I've ever had. Big, tender noodles. Creamy, rich cheese sauce. Perfect seasoning with whatever magical spice blend they're using. I would return solely for this mac and cheese and feel zero shame about it. Cabbage: Another unexpected standout. Perfectly cooked -- not mushy, not bland -- just tender, lightly sweet, and finished with a subtle tang that kept it interesting. I wasn't sure about ordering cabbage at first, but now I'm wondering why I don't order cabbage more often. Hot Dog: A solid addition. Grilled (not boiled -- thank you!), topped with chili, mustard, and sautéed onions that elevated the whole thing. Fries: Standard seasoned frozen fries. Perfectly fine, but clearly not the star of the show with everything else shining so brightly. Overall, B&L Caribbean Restaurant absolutely delivered. Warm hospitality, incredible flavors, and a menu that already has me planning my next visit -- because I need more mac and cheese and cabbage in my life, and that fried catfish is already calling my name. No plane ticket to St. Lucia required -- just bring your appetite.
