Since changing my diet and becoming more of a fitness fanatic -- nothing like the Philly Fanatic, but close -- I've been more selective about what I eat. Still, Philadelphia holds a special place in my heart, and when I got off the road and I was craving a cheesesteak. I couldn't find a good cheesesteak spot in the Harrisburg area. I remembered the place off 13th Street, but they no longer sell cheesesteaks and the restaurant has changed. So I switched gears and decided to get some fish instead. It was only 9:30 PM, and At Hookers Seafood & Fish -- an amazing place based off the consistency but it had already closed at 8 PM. Back on the hunt for food, I stumbled across Got Jerk Island Grill and Juice Bar in Midtown Harrisburg. The moment I walked in, it felt like I was teleported straight into the heart of Jamaica. Caribbean vibes everywhere -- lounge chair up front, Bob Marley on the walls, and a laid‑back atmosphere that made me feel like I should've had a coconut water in my hand. I talked to the chef and told him to give me his best dish. He served me curry chicken, rice and beans, sweet plantains, and cabbage. I have to say -- it was the best curry chicken I've ever had. The chicken was tender, cut perfectly, and shredded apart in my mouth. It fell right off the bone, and the curry had just the right amount of spice so you could still enjoy the full flavor of the meal. That's when I knew the chef knew exactly what he was doing and chose the right cut of meat. read more

I used to love this place & introduce new people to it. however after today, definitely not going back. walked in, not a single greeting or anything. ordered sorrel, it was not fresh & literally the last of the barrel because there was no more after my friend tried ordering one. beef patty was soggy & obviously not fresh. jerk chicken was dry as hell, cabbage was terrible. First time was a complete cluster they ran out of everything and had to wait 1.5 hours for food . Second time smooth as could be 20 mins in and out . Rice and peas are not bad at all , cabbage is just about perfect and the jerk chicken has perfect flavor and the perfect amount of spice where you do not need hot sauce . Got old, bland, and nasty food more like it. Everything I ordered taste like it has been sitting under a heat lamp all day, or maybe even from yesterday. And where is the staff? Out chilling on the sidewalk smoking up. Come on, save your extracurricular activities for the back ally and do not let it get between your business and your customer's experience. It should NOT take more than 45 minutes to prepare and serve food. The amount of time I wasted waiting for food is beyond comprehension. And the prices are outrageous for what you get. I have no clue how this place stays in business (drug front maybe). I feel sorry for the residents that live near this place. The staff are more interested in getting high and revving their motorcycles up and down 2nd street at all hours of the day. The staff must be making up for their small endowment. They even park their motorcycles on the sidewalk impeding pedestrian traffic which is a violation per Harrisburg City Codes. Got Jerk is a bad addition to Midtown and they could do better for their customers, neighbors, and community. When Got J[un]k goes out of business, I doubt the community will rally around them like they have so many other businesses in the area. read more

Stop the car, y'all! If you're driving through Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, you need to make a pit stop at Got Jerk! Island Grill, located inside a freakin' Sunoco gas station. I mean, who needs a fancy restaurant when you can chow down on some delicious Jamaican cuisine while filling up your tank? I was on my way to Washington DC from Ottawa when I heard about this place and planned my whole route around it. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The owner and staff were super kind and accommodating when I asked for a mix of dishes so I could try a little bit of everything without getting stuffed. I ended up getting the oxtail with rice and peas, plantain, cabbage, and a piece of jerk. And let me tell you, every bite was like a party in my mouth. The rice had just a hint of coconut milk, the chicken was perfectly cooked and spiced, and the oxtail was so tender and juicy, I had to close my eyes to fully enjoy it. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a little adventure and a whole lot of flavor. The chef at Got Jerk! Island Grill knows what they're doing, and they're doing it inside a gas station - I mean, who knew? So the next time you need to fill up your tank and your belly, make a stop at this little slice of heaven. I finally got to visit yesterday and the experience was amazing. The juices and beverages are delicious, so healthy and refreshing. The food was INCREDIBLE, the flavour were just amazing and left us all feeling great. The bartender/chef was so friendly and told us about all the drinks and food on the menu. This place is amazing! I had the Jerk Mac and some Spicy Beef Patties. The patties were nice, crispy, and flavorful. The Jerk Mac is a 10/10 HANDS DOWN!! Their Pineapple Mango juice is very delicious as well you can tell that the fruit is fresh not frozen and made as you order. The atmosphere is nice and my server was very friendly. This place is shared with a gas station but don't let it fool you! The food was amazing I had Jerk Chicken Mac n Cheese, Beef patty and wings! They had a load of customers and still were able to make my food in decent time! Definitely recommend calling in for a shorter wait time. I was only there for 10-15 mins though. This was our first time ordering from Got Jerk and it was a mixed experience. We tried the beef patty, Jerk chicken bowl, and the curry chicken bowl. The items were flavorful and served in large portion sizes. The reason for the two stars was bones. The curry chicken bowl had more bones/bone pieces than chicken meat. Even after picking all the larger pieces of bones out of the dish, there were many smaller pieces that got mixed in with the rice and beans, which was concerning while eating. We are not sure if we will give them another try. read more

Found this place on Yelp because I was craving some Caribbean cuisine, especially plantains. It's a small counter inside a gas station, nothing fancy. Also, there's no tables on-site so everything is takeout. I ordered the loaded Caribbean jerk fries, four beef patties, and pineapple Calypso plantains. It took a while for them to prepare my food, but that's understandable as there were only two people working there. One other guy came in and ordered some food while I was there. One of the beef patties was burnt, but the rest were good. Nice and crispy crust with slightly beef on the inside. The fries were great, except I think they use Kraft singles as the cheese. The chicken and the jerk ranch was loaded with flavor, I would eat that by itself. The pineapples had great flavor as well. Tangy and sweet at the same time. All that food was just under $23! Listeeeeennnn, the way this food just hit the spot! We are just passing through for a cheer competition and saw the sign and said why not? We ordered the oxtail bowl, a side of Mac and cheese, a beef pattie and the curry chicken bowl. The platter was packed, the entire car smelled good because we left it in the car to finish running around. We ate the beef pattie im the car and it set the tone. We ordered lunch delivery from this place and everything was on point. Curry chicken was loaded with flavor, as was the jerk chicken which was spicier than the jerk I had in Jamaica itself! (I'd describe it as medium to hot, not scorching) I also enjoyed the Jamaican patty and the plantains, which are topped with pineapple BBQ sauce. My wife thought the sauce overpowered the natural sweetness of the plantains, but I thought they were great. Definitely would try this again. read more

I'm not a foodie but I knows what I likes. Back in Nov 2020, my buddy raced a marathon, and after, we wanted some serious chow to hit the post-race experience. My buddy did a quick search, and right next to the hotel he was staying was this gem of a spot: Got Jerk! Island Grill. I kinda loved that it was hidden in a gas station - in hindsight, it just adds to the mystique of having incredible cuisine emerge from unlikely places, so to speak. (I just gave away my thoughts on their food, ah well.) When we got to the counter, we asked if they had oxtail. They did, but we were gonna have to wait 15 minutes. Let me just say this: if you're in any way, shape or form a fan of oxtail, or even mildly curious, it's worth the wait. I got the oxtail platter, my buddy got the jerk chicken platter, and we each got a beef patty. We took the food to go. When we settled down to chow, I wolfed down my plate, and almost forgot to give a few oxtails to my buddy in exchange for some of his jerk chicken. The oxtails were tender, flavorful, and amazing. The jerk chicken was tender and juicy. I don't really recall what the sides even were, but it all blended magnificently and made the bed of rice filled with so much flavorful goodness. Even thinking about it now I'm straight-up salivating. As for the beef patty... When I roam around NYC and it strikes me to seek out a beef patty, I do so with the desire that they be crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and juicy in the meaty center. But when I usually get one, the patty will have 1 out of 3 of those key qualities, and if I'm lucky, maybe 2 out of 3. But the beef patty from Got Jerk! had three for three, and it was glorious. Flaky, soft, juicy. I wish I knew how to savor, but I definitely wolfed that patty down as well. So after I inhaled all the food, I figured I'd be feeling like a log and ready to crash, but it didn't feel all that heavy. Granted, I'd been standing and walking around for about 4 hours (my buddy was the one running). So who's to say. All I can say is, if I'm ever driving through Harrisburg, PA, I know where I'm stopping for some good good. OH! AND THE STAFF IS AWESOME. I only got to talk to them briefly, but their vibe... is so cool...  I honestly think it's worth a pilgrimage here just to try out this spot. If you're in NYC and wait in some restaurant line for 2 hours before sitting, and when you finally get your dish 3 hours have gone by, you could have easily just driven to this spot from east coast in similar time and got yourself a fantastic meal from this gem of a restaurant with a cool crew. The place is under new ownership recently. We got to meet the owner, who is kind and passionate about the food and culture. The restaurant itself has a fun atmosphere with beautiful Jamaican decor and good vibes. The stuff is friendly and attentive. The food and juices are incredible! We tried the pineapple & ginger, sorrel, mango & pineapple, got jerk punch, Caribbean beets, and strawberry & basil lemonade and all of them were incredible! Each had a unique taste packed with flavor and incredibly fresh. While it was difficult to choose our favorites amongst the many we tried, I think I'd have to pick the strawberry & basil lemonade and the got jerk punch as the top two with the Caribbean beets as a close third. You really can't go wrong with any of them though. We also ate the oxtail and jerk chicken. Both were absolutely immaculate. Very authentic, packed with flavor, and the meats were both spectacularly tender, falling off the bone. We also tried the jerk marinade, the hot n tasty Caribbean BBQ, the pineapple calypso, and buffalo Soulja. Another tough choice to make because none of these disappointed in the slightest; each so delicious. We ended up taking home the jerk marinade and the hot n tasty Caribbean BBQ. The beef patties are amazing, a must. We are spice eaters and did not find the food spicy, but those with a less spicy palate might find it on the spicy side. Fantastic stop in. Absolutely must get the fried plantains and can't go wrong with the jerked chicken. I like it better than the curry but both were good. Tried the other desserts (rum cake, banana cake) which were... good but couldn't compare to fried plantains. Has become a regular stop for me when driving on the side of Harrisburg. read more

Made an order via Grub Hub and was confirmed when I arrived I saw a large line which seemed to be a great sign. Got Jerk unfortunately didn't even begin my order nor did they acknowledge it nor apologize. They cashier told me to wait another 20 minutes after I had already received a notification that my food was ready. I waited for 20 more minutes and my food still wasn't ready no apology for the inconvenience or anything. Many customers who ordered after me received their order before and were shocked I still not received my food. Finally received my food after having to confront the cashier. Food wise it was ok I wouldn't say it was worth the wait. I ordered the veggie bowl with curry it was pretty oily and the rice wasn't fresh. Rice and beans in the bowl were well cooked. The plantains were delicious! Prices were very reasonable and portion sizes were a good value for price paid. I liked what I tried so I purchased one of each style of bowl along with a side of plantains. for 3 people it was very filling the prices were reasonable. This is a take out place only. There is no seating as it is located inside of a convenience store. They are just getting started I can see if they were to add a delivery service like grubhub, doordash, ubereats.
