Curry Shrimp, Cabbage, Rice & Peas
    Natalie A.

A surprise walk in!!! I ordered the curry shrimp, rice & peas w/cabbage. Authentic Jamaican food packed with flavor! All fresh and hot when ordered. The curry shrimp had a sultry curry flavor and paired with veggies. The cabbage also was well seasoned and still had a crunch to it. The rice and peas was perfection! I appreciate the dandelion tea with fresh ground ginger mix!

I was craving Jamaican food for a week. The food did not disappoint. Also got the pepper steak and cabbage. My friend was trying Jamaican for the first time and he was floored

Curry Goat dinner with rice and peas and cabbage.

Decided to give these folk a try today. There are 4 things I seek when going out to eat. Reasonable price, good quantity, good taste and cleanliness. I had the curry goat with rice and peas and cabbage. The taste and authenticity were excellent. The quantity and price were also good. I figure this is a hard working couple putting this fine food together each day. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is that the eating area could stand a little fixing up. If you want some good tasting authentic Jamaican cuisine, then give these folk a try. I have no reason to believe that their other menu items are also excellent.

I am here to do a review!!…read more As I find myself driving a semi-truck, those long stretches on the road always work up an appetite. Since changing my diet and becoming more of a fitness fanatic -- nothing like the Philly Fanatic, but close -- I've been more selective about what I eat. Still, Philadelphia holds a special place in my heart, and when I got off the road and I was craving a cheesesteak. I couldn't find a good cheesesteak spot in the Harrisburg area. I remembered the place off 13th Street, but they no longer sell cheesesteaks and the restaurant has changed. So I switched gears and decided to get some fish instead. It was only 9:30 PM, and At Hookers Seafood & Fish -- an amazing place based off the consistency but it had already closed at 8 PM. Back on the hunt for food, I stumbled across Got Jerk Island Grill and Juice Bar in Midtown Harrisburg. The moment I walked in, it felt like I was teleported straight into the heart of Jamaica. Caribbean vibes everywhere -- lounge chair up front, Bob Marley on the walls, and a laid‑back atmosphere that made me feel like I should've had a coconut water in my hand. I talked to the chef and told him to give me his best dish. He served me curry chicken, rice and beans, sweet plantains, and cabbage. I have to say -- it was the best curry chicken I've ever had. The chicken was tender, cut perfectly, and shredded apart in my mouth. It fell right off the bone, and the curry had just the right amount of spice so you could still enjoy the full flavor of the meal. That's when I knew the chef knew exactly what he was doing and chose the right cut of meat.

I had ordered my food to go & immediately threw it out after maybe 4 bites to give it a chance. plantains are always good so, I ate them. genuinely butthurt about how this place went down, but see ya never I guess.

I first learned about B&L Caribbean Restaurant through social media and immediately added it to my…read more"must try soon" list. So when I found myself in Carlisle for Ice Fest 2026, it felt like the perfect opportunity to stop in for an early dinner and finally see what all the buzz was about. Quick logistics note before we dive into the food: parking can be a bit tricky. Metered street parking is available but the area stays busy, so be prepared. The Pomfret Street Parking Garage and nearby lot are great backup options -- especially when you're walking in sub-zero temperatures and just want to get inside somewhere warm as quickly as possible. We walked in around 3pm and were the only guests at the time -- not surprising given the weather outside, but stepping into the warm, cozy interior felt like instant relief. The man behind the counter greeted us right away and was friendly and ready to help. After surveying the menu (and trying not to order one of everything), we decided to sample both the traditional Caribbean offerings and a nod to their hot dog roots. We ordered the Jerk Rib Platter ($16) with macaroni and cheese and cabbage as sides, plus a lemonade ($5). We also added a Hot Dog Combo with fries ($8) topped with chili, mustard, and onions, along with a Diet Pepsi. Total came to about $35 with tip, which felt reasonable. While our food was being prepared, the screen behind the counter kept lighting up with new online orders, so clearly we weren't the only ones with this place on our radar. Our food came out quickly and looked fantastic -- generous portions without being overwhelming, which was honestly refreshing. Jerk Ribs: Absolutely incredible. Moist, tender, fall-apart-in-your-mouth goodness. The jerk sauce added afterward brought a delicious balance of sweet heat that built gradually without crossing into "regret" territory. Perfectly done. Macaroni & Cheese: I do not say this lightly -- this might be the best macaroni and cheese I've ever had. Big, tender noodles. Creamy, rich cheese sauce. Perfect seasoning with whatever magical spice blend they're using. I would return solely for this mac and cheese and feel zero shame about it. Cabbage: Another unexpected standout. Perfectly cooked -- not mushy, not bland -- just tender, lightly sweet, and finished with a subtle tang that kept it interesting. I wasn't sure about ordering cabbage at first, but now I'm wondering why I don't order cabbage more often. Hot Dog: A solid addition. Grilled (not boiled -- thank you!), topped with chili, mustard, and sautéed onions that elevated the whole thing. Fries: Standard seasoned frozen fries. Perfectly fine, but clearly not the star of the show with everything else shining so brightly. Overall, B&L Caribbean Restaurant absolutely delivered. Warm hospitality, incredible flavors, and a menu that already has me planning my next visit -- because I need more mac and cheese and cabbage in my life, and that fried catfish is already calling my name. No plane ticket to St. Lucia required -- just bring your appetite.

The doubles? Exceptional. Soft, perfectly filled, and full of flavor. And the hot pepper sauce? Whew. It didn't just add heat, it elevated an already outstanding dish to another level. I ordered so many doubles I barely had room for anything else but I had to try the dhal and it was exactly what I needed. Comforting, rich, and done right. Everything tasted like true, authentic Trini food, the kind that makes you feel warm, satisfied, and already thinking about your next visit. I was literally craving it every single day for the rest of my Lancaster trip. The space itself is on the smaller side, but really cute and inviting. The service was great: friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience complete. Whether you're new to Trini food or already know what's up, Calaloo will not disappoint.
