Well someone in the kitchen has had divine inspiration. The food is heavenly. We had the mushroom soup. Delicious, creamy and full of mushroom goodness. If you are from western PA I put this on par with Longwood Gardens soup! That is saying something! A mistake was made and they delivered a trio appetizer, we tried to decline but after it was on the table we were told it would be free and the apologized. The rabbit sausage was oh my god good, the pate, inspired,and the calamari well cooked, could of been crispier but still good. Another appetizer, the broiled leeks, absolutely yummy! When you make a reservation, they give you a time limit for your table and then when the next party gets there early, they move you out of your table. Additionally, without any notice, they add extra fees when using a credit card. Very poorly run. read more

Disappointing experience tonight. Service by Elliott leisurely. The fries were uncharacteristically limp. Our entire evening was spoiled by a group of 8 on the other side of the room. They started at the bar, moved to couches where they became very noisy complete with singing, then moved to their table upstairs. We let them know how they inconsiderate they had been when we left. We also told the hostess about our experience and instead of apologizing, she just shrugged and said Americans are noisy. I think we won't go back for the foreseeable future. read more

Anniversary dinner with another couple was lovely. All entrees, two Trouts, Salmon and Seafood stew were excellent. Service was great and we closed the restaurant with an Expresso martini and crème brûlée. Cocktails were very good and celebratory. Restaurant never disappoints. read more

Amazing dinner tonight (8/21/2022) at Caprice Bistro with our neighbors who invited us out to dinner. I had the Waterzooi, which is a house specialty. It was a seafood type stew/sort of a soup with shrimp, scallops, mussels, salmon, flounder in a light cream sauce. Tony had the Le Petit Cochon, pork tenderloin, braised cheeks, with bacon and beer. Our waiter, Drew was friendly and attentive. We shared a wonderful 2018 Bordeaux wine. This is a MUST go-to place for dinner in downtown Wilmington. read more

Truly the BEST meal i've ever had. Visited about a week ago and I am STILL thinking about the meal we had. Made a reservation very easily online and had the cutest window table upstairs. The restaurant itself is decorated beautifully and includes some sofas upstairs by the bar which were perfect for sitting and enjoying a drink before dinner. Service and the drinks were great but the real shinning star was the food! We started our meal with the French Onion Soup (which deserves ALL of the hype) and a salad (which had best tasting shrimp on it! what a surprise!). Both dishes were so delightful and warm and comforting without being too filling. Next we ordered the Mussels with Frites and Seafood Stew for our entrees and were again blown away by the complexity of flavors and just how delicious they both were. Seriously, every part of the seafood stew was cooked perfectly and the fries were the best i've ever had, perfectly crispy, hot and salty! For dessert we ordered the Profiteroles and Espresso Ice Cream and we're once again blown AWAY by the quality of dessert. The Profiteroles were perfectly sweet and rich with the fudge on top and the Espresso Ice Cream was perfectly smooth and bitter to cut through the sweetness. We had such a lovely dinner here last night. If they offer the heirloom tomato salad get it!! It was fabulous. The French martini is always my go to cocktail when I'm here. My husband started with calamari which he polished off and was full enough he could have been done. He did however have the duck confit which he also enjoyed. I chose the Beef Bourguignon delicious as always, even in the heat of summer. I always recommend at least trying the cocktail bar upstairs even if you don't eat dinner here. Words cannot express how delicious this place is so I must sing it!!!! Lol the food and price are exceptional!! It's so good I even tried the escargot!!! No I am not a fan of escargot but I will play for the team if it's served here! My fiancé speaks French so he enjoyed the communication with the sweetest hostess you could have in a genuine conversation. We went to Caprice this past Sunday. Had early reservations and sat at the bar before going to our table. Our bartender was awesome. Since they weren't too busy quite yet she had some time to chat - we really enjoyed ourselves at the bar. The staff applied no pressure to get to our table so we meandered over about 15 minutes after our scheduled reservation. Our server was super attentive but not hovering. We started with a glass of champaign and the charcuterie board, which was fantastic. My husband followed with the pork cheeks and I had the duck confit. He loved his pork my duck was just so-so. It was just a little tougher than I expected. For dessert we shared the Pistachio Crème Brûlée. Folks, do NOT pass this up. It was amazing. I think I may have even dreamed about it that night. Even the two little macarons served on the side were scrumptious. Overall it was a great experience. If I could give 4.5 stars I would and the only hold back to 5 was my duck. read more

Amazing experience at Caprice tonight in an intimate setting for two. Delicious soups to start the evening with the perfect French bread and olive oil combination! Next the main dishes were scrumptious with the yummiest mash potatoes and veggie combos. The French Rose was a lovely accompaniment to this meal and reasonably priced. This place has incredible ambiance. It's very cozy in there but a little loud and the tables are close to each other. The food was very good . We got the mussels and they were good but needed salt big time. I got the duck it was very good but needed more sauce. My wife got the trout which she said also needed salt. Loved the vibe here, went for an anniversary dinner in early July. I recommend going at sunset for the best view and to miss the heat of the day. Well, though we have been customers of this quaint restaurant many times over the last years, my wife and I dined at Caprice last week and left disappointed. On a positive note, the service (Sheena) was attentive and pleasant, the restaurant was not crowded and the noise volume was pleasantly low. The appetizers were solid (Rabbit Sausage & Salad w/ Arugula with Pear slices and Blue Cheese crumbles). Sadly, the Entrees were a swing and a miss. My wife ordered the Salmon au Vert and I ordered the Steak Frites. The Salmon showed up on a plate that was stupidly hot. The texture of the fish was ... hard for lack of a better explanation and the fish has been noticeably over salted. Unpleasant. My wife, only later, admitted that she only ate it so I did not notice and ruin the evening out. My Steak showed up several minutes after my wife's meal, without the frites. For whatever reason, it would seen the kitchen simply forgot about the other half of the meal, our server notices the oversight and, about 5 minutes later they showed up. As for the steak itself, it was on the very low end of how thin a steak one might hope for (and I get that steaks in a bistro are not typically very thick) and had a mealy texture to it. The sauce (in this case, an au poivre) seemed weak in flavor ... perhaps it could have used a bit more in the green pepper/cognac/butter. Either way, it is always disappointing when you are served a dinned that you know you can do better than the restaurant and at less than half the price. We were so let down that we simply skipped the desert and went about our evening. Again, had good meals there in the past and the staff was pleasant, but the dinner was nothing to celibate.. especially when dinner with tip was $170 for two. We will think twice before going back. read more

Caprice is LEGIT! My husband and I stopped in for an impromptu date night. We didn't make a reservation (it was a Wednesday) and we were lucky enough to score a table. I was surprised by how busy it was for a Wednesday night, but the staff was handling it well. We decided to share a few appetizers and an entrée, so we could try multiple things, and it's definitely a good way to go. French onion soup - 5/5, so good. We shared a small cup, but I honestly could've eaten my own. If you typically like FOS, this one is real good. The soup itself was light and flavorful, and really well balanced. The topping was still a little crispy, but sopped up that delicious broth and was covered in the perfect amount of cheese. We also ordered the Crêpe Caprice, and the Lamb Shank to share. For the quality and value, Caprice Bistro can't be beat. Love the ambiance and service was swell too. Will be back for future date nights :)! read more

This rating is a combination of the food (4 stars for what I had) and the service (2 stars). Went early one Friday night to avoid the rush. I managed that, but apparently the bartender and the servers has not yet gotten into the groove. I sat at the bar and, while the bartender was quick to take my order and pitch me on the nightly specials, that's where the interaction ended. At least as far as his paying guest was concerned. The barman and servers were all quite engaged ... with each other. I was dining alone and would have appreciated a little conversation. I also would have stayed longer, spent more, and left a bigger tip. But it was not to be. If I'd been dining with friends, I wouldn't have cared. But I wasn't, and an astute staff would have picked up on that. As it was, a small app and one glass of wine was enough. Sorry. Came here during a long weekend at Kure Beach with some good friends! Let's just say anything you get will be delicious! We came with a party of 8 so we were able to get a wide variety of dishes and taste them all. We went strong on appetizers including the crispy calamari, buttery garlicky escargot with extra hot and crunchy frites, pate with toast, juicy mussels in a scrumptious curry sauce, extra extra bread to dip in all the rich sauces, hot perfectly cheesy onion soup, and an endive salad with beets to be healthy!! DELICIOUS!!! We were pretty comfortable after apps but of course had to try entrees especially after that intro to the restaurant! So we got the Carolina trout (underwhelming), beef bourguignon (tender, juicy, and accompanied with sweet carrots), mushroom crepe (rich, creamy), and duck confit (perfectly cooked). After this, we were stuffed!! BUT, there were profiteroles so we had to get that!! The puffs stuffed with vanilla ice cream and topped with chocolate sauce, strawberry slices, and mint was so delicious, crispy, satisfying that we licked the plates!! Takeout Review - Caprice used to be our Favorite Restaurant in Wilmington - NO Longer - Took out 2 dishes last week for my Birthday: Beef Bourguignon & Norwegain Salmon. - Ratings - Beef was grade = B, the Salmon was grade = F. The Beef dish was pretty good, the beef was a bit tough, not tender & flaky as in the past. The Salmon was TERRIBLE - totally Dry and Tasteless. Wife is from Norway, who knows what fresh, moist, properly cooked salmon looks & tastes like. this salmon was murdered by having been overcooked. Caprice owners should ensure chefs know how to properly prepare quality & expensive Salmon, instead of overcooking it. - Sad to give up on our prior Fav restaurant. read more

I am flying out of Wilmington tomorrow and stumbled upon this place while walking near the river walk. I started when the escargot which was to die for in a Roquefort cream sauce. The server recommended a nice white wine to go with it (I can't remember what it was but is was so light and refreshing). He also recommended the halibut special that came with a shrimp and tomato sauce with Crispy onions. I wish I had room for dessert!! read more
