Finally for dessert we split an incredible coconut and pineapple rum infused cream brûlée. Pleasant and helpful staff, with a warm and modern design. I think they probably cook the stuff before and then microwave when it's ordered but I'm not sure. My final whinge will be that the didn't let us book as we wanted to eat at 6.30 but when we got there made quite a bit of a fuss about the fact the hadn't booked. The staff were all very confused. They had a lovely selection of drinks and I enjoyed a very modest Hedgerow Fizz which was a mere £3.501 In this area, you will not find better food, ethically sourced anywhere else. They usually have some seasonal game on the menu which I like, their wood pigeon has been excellent the couple of times I've had it. Bel and The Dragons tend to be in interesting buildings and this one is no exception. They renovated the boat house specifically for the restaurant and it's a great setting (albeit not quite as interesting as the Godalming one which is in an old Church). Probably my favourite restaurant in Reading.

I ordered the brie and broccoli parcel that came with the vegetarian carvery. The parcel was a flaky puff pastry filled with rich brie and broccoli. This dish was divine! The vegetarian carvery had great side dishes such as creamy mashed potatoes, corn, carrots, squash, stuffing, cauliflower cheese, and wonderful gravys. The beef gravy was my favorite and accompanied my sides beautifully. The dessert is exceptional and I highly recommend the treacle tart with bottomless custard. If I could only find puddings like this in California!
