This was awful-- the food wasn't good, the crab legs were obviously not fresh as the shells were flimsy and bendable- that was weird. Everything was very bland. The price is OUTRAGEOUS for the quality of food you are getting. I tried many items at the buffet and didn't enjoy anything. I do not eat desserts but decided to try them since I didn't like any of the savory food items. The desserts were okay. I had the banana pudding, the gooey butter cake (why was it salty?) and something I can't even remember. I was disappointed with everything. It takes a LOT for me to rate a place 1 star, but this was honestly the worst meal I've had in the last two weeks since being here. I also was super irritated we paid $121 for two people. We just ate for the first time today. Great food. We had fish and chips very good. Coconut shrimp delicious. Blackened Grouper fantastic and the burger with bacon and BBQ sauce was unbelievable. This place was really good. I was a little disappointed that there wasnt more seafood options. Everything we had was really good expect for 2 things. The steaks were so tough the knives wouldn't even cut them. We tried 2 different steaks. The other was the crab legs. They were rubbery, dried out, and bland. We talked with the waiter. He said they do not season the crab legs or the water they are boiled in. He said alot of times the crab legs dry out because the guy fixing them says he cooks them to long. Then they sit on the bar. I have been to this restaurant before, its a good buffet if your going just for the crab legs as the variety of the other food isn't that big, it's just one isle of food to choice from. BUT I actually really LIKED the fact there wasn't tons and tons and rows and rows of options. They stick to what their good at. The salad bar options hit the spot. The jambalaya was very tasty, chicken tenders were crisp and everything was seasoned well. Desert options, I love that they were small portions so you didn't gorge and could try a few different things. My favorite was the cheese cake. I do wish the chocolate chip cookie would have been soft but maybe next time. My Husband ate his worth in crab legs and was satisfied. There are multiple locations of Capt. Jack's. This one has a much smaller dining room than the other PCB location, but the buffet is basically the same. The boiled seafood (snow crab legs, gulf reds shrimp, warm boiled shrimp, and seasoned precooked deveined easy peel shrimp tails) were all wonderful! Everything was fresh and none of it was overcooked which is rare these days. They had crawfish too and these had a good flavor but as it was at the very end of the season, we didn't mess around with them too much. We were there for crab and were not let down! The fried seafood was also good and despite being catered to tourists, was still of good quality, well seasoned, and not overcooked. The only disappointment was the fried shrimp which were cooked properly but all tasted like they were well beyond fresh when they were fried in the first place. They seemed to have been fresh gulf shrimp and my guess is just that they were in taking their oldest shrimp and frying them whilst the freshest catch to arrive made it onto the boiled section of the buffet. If they fix this issue, this would be one of the best seafood buffets on the coast...certainly outdid all of the casinos. The biggest downfall for this restaurant and the reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that management and staff allow ill-behaved children and their malfeasant parents to run amok all over the place and don't insist they either keep their families quiet and acting like they are human beings in a public place, or tell them they have to leave (and make them actually get the hell out for the sake of everyone else). People are trash and unfortunately PCB tends to attract the worst combination of trash and trash who think rules don't apply because they have money and are important (at least in their own feeble minds). If there is a downside this restaurant it is that the staff is burdened with trying to deal with being inundated by just jerks trashing the place, wasting the food, throwing it on the floor, and blocking every walkway. The owners owe it to their employees and well-behaved customers to stand up to the bad eggs and eject them from the restaurant before they've ruined everyone else's night rather than ignoring their abuses. read more

The food was tasteless, appeared old, smelled unusual. The gumbo and jambalaya, which is usually a smidge spicy and very flavorful, this gumbo and jambalaya was tasteless, no flavoring whatsoever and we could not find one piece of seafood. The breading on the fried foods had no flavor and much too thick. The mashed potatoes tasted like box potatoes. Literally everything we had, including the dessert, was tasteless. The desserts were just sweet. The restaurant was uncomfortably cold It was such a bad experience. We sampled the entire buffet, except the crab legs that were sitting in water. I truly have not had such consistently poor food. The meal for the 2 of us came to $88 before tip. What an embarrassment for this vacation community. I had the crab leg option and found it to be water logged and lukewarm. The so called butter was some kind of fake oil. When I asked the waitress, she said it was 'melted marigold butter. She tried to help by going and melting a small dish for me, but she asked about it and was told it was imitation butter like they use for butter popcorn at the movie theaters. Believe me, it did not come close to tasting like butter - just some kind of tasteless oil. The rest of the food was equally tasteless. We went during lunch Friday October 18, 2024. I've really never seen a staff that was less excited about being there. The hostess was rough around the edges, very direct not the least bit friendly. Definitely not the hostess with the mostest. The food was just average. Nothing great. Nothing horrible. Mediocre is the only word to adequately describe it. The staff knows the owners rip off credit card users with fees, so they probably know that's coming out of their tip. That's probably why they aren't friendly and provide the bare basics of service. Capt Jacks is absolute fire! We got there at 3:15pm and were the first in a long line when they opened. The hostesses were polite and informative and the servers were fast and efficient. The food was fresh, plentiful and delicious. The best part for me was the crab legs but as a close second they have a great dessert buffet with all my favorites, key lime pie, banana meringue pudding and a do-it-yourself ice cream bar. Came for crab legs and got crab legs. All you can eat! The place is really busy so the food constantly moves. The crab legs where large and steamed and there was a server so no one had to touch the same tongs. They also had crawfish which was my first time trying and I liked it. The dessert was good too. 1 Star is based on the pricing we had to pay for our kiddos vs what's on their website along with how we were greeted (no smiles and slight irritation when asking about a veteran discount and pricing) Crab legs are large however, all places around PCB have large crab legs unless they are King. They charged us $49.95 for our 14yr old who was considered an adult. She eats chicken tenders, but, she wanted to try the crab legs too so the lady said she would have to be charged as an adult. She ended up eating literally 3 legs from one cluster. Our wait help also apologized to us that she had to pay an adult price. I attached the price list which is on their website. Only the $49.95 seemed to stand out over the rest. Our 17yr old son doesn't eat seafood at all. They charged him $29.95. Which was a Reasonable price but that price was not on their website either, They still charged our youngest $49.95 My husband & I enjoyed the crab legs and I enjoyed the coconut shrimp as well. That's all I ate. 4 clusters and shrimp, but the coconut shrimp were the best. The yellow liquid in the dispenser is not good at all. Our total came out to $196.00 I attached the website pricing which clearly says ADULTS $49.95 and kids pricing from small to large and nothing about $29.95 for non seafood eaters. I have to add that our table staff person was absolutely amazing! He was tentative not only to our table but all tables surrounding us! I had to edit my review as there are 2 locations. I knew when we walked in the door it was likely going to be bad by the overwhelming "fishy" odor. Anyone who has ever cooked seafood or grown up around it knows fresh, appropriately cooked seafood should NEVER smell that strongly. But I let myself ignore what I knew to be true and proceeded on in. The buffet was very small, stocked with overcooked items that were either mush or so chewy that it was like eating rubber. The crab legs were so overcooked that the shells were rubbery and the meat was mush. Don't go unless you just want to throw money away. You won't enjoy it and you will never come close to getting your money's worth. You'll leave either completely disappointed or very angry at how much you spent. read more
