Terrible restaurant do dine in. Server was clueless about the menu they don't let you substitute the sides for some items but some items are ok to do. they can't cook steak to temperature , i ordered medium rare fillet and it came bloody rare and second time it was cooked well done. Getting the recooked steak was 1 hour wait. Server was full of attitude and i think she thought she was the guest and we were the serving staff. The restauarant takes open table reservation but there is no host stand to check in and you have to seat yourself. So no one asks if you have reservation or anything , which is mind boggling. It was just so bad ... so soooo bad. Quite possibly the greasiest grits I've had in my life. The grits are swimming in butter and tasted horrible. Our server Leia did a good job serving our party of 5, made the kids laugh and accommodated dietary restrictions - she was a great server, and that's what gave the star. The Brussels appetizer is good, the wings are over cooked and the chicken tasted old, they use a heavy rock salt that doesn't go well with the dishes, but the salads were pretty good. The quinoa bowl was inedible, it was overly salted. We were just blown away at how greasy the grits were. read more

My wife's caprese salad was very good, tomatoes still not quite red as I like but overall good. I got the grouper sandwich a bit disappointing the problem was the grouper was too thin and when you add breading well you get really no flavor, if grouping that is! My Caesar salad was adequate. Although not advertised from the outside that we could see, this gem is inside Springhill Suites and exceeded expectations. We went for a late dinner so we missed what would undoubtedly be a phenomenal view, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the atmosphere is cozy, modern and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bar was still full of life but we opted to sit at a nearby table to ourselves.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were immediately greeted by the friendly chef Jamal. He let us know the kitchen was closing soon but we would be well taken care of and he wasn't kidding. We took his recommendations and ordered grouper tacos and the grouper entree. Espresso martinis- delicious, pretty sweet, chocolate drizzle in the glass and a cream and chocolate shavings garnish. Tasted like a boozy dessert in a glass. Grouper tacos: great flavor, great portion size, cooked and seasoned perfectly. 9/10. Grouper entree: phenomenal. Way better than expected. Large portion of grouper atop the most delicious shrimp and grits- this dish was off the charts. Highly recommend and it'll be hard to top during the rest of our stay. Service was wonderful, we enjoyed talking to the chef and got our food very quickly. Overall we highly recommend this spot- ignore the nasty reviews that talk about bad service- they were understaffed for a minute and it's been resolved and you will not be disappointed!! If you time it right, you can hopefully have a great view of the sunset. You can tell they have been working on making this a fine dining experience. The bar had plenty of seating. Service was a little slow as they only had on server and you could tell they are trying to adapt to a larger table number. She did get help when it got real crowded. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was live entertainment (Tuesday night), Lori Ubowski, and she can sing and play all ranges/genres of songs. It was not too loud so we could still talk at our table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now for the food...the best I had our entire trip. We had truffle fries to start, which were great. I got the Salmon which was mouthwatering and cooked perfectly on a cedar plank. My husband and another had the filet which they gave raving reviews of. I hate to say it, but the majority of hotel bars and restaurants seem pretty meh to me. That is not the case with the Compass. To keep it simple: friendly staff, solid cocktails, and a great view. Compass Kitchen is also the location of the Springhill Hotel's complimentary breakfast which was better than average as well. The morning crew was no less friendly and kept all the food offerings stocked, hot, and fresh and the arts clean. We went on Monday for Bingo ended up ordering drinks then food. Food was amazing and came out fast. Drinks from the bar to table took 2 business days and a signature for acceptance before it was served to a table. It was so slow. I pretty much shotgunned my last drink as it took about minutes to get and we were ready to leave by the time I got it. If at the bar very fast turn around right as you ordered as it appeared but as for table service I've seen molasses move quicker in the winter time. read more

I ordered the prime rib, ordered rare to medium rare. It came out cold and gray. I'm not one to send things back but my spouse advocated for me to order something else. The server asked what was wrong, and I explained that I didn't think this prime rib was even cooked today. The chef came out and apologized, explaining that it was indeed a day old cut that she pulled for a soup and a fresh one is on its way. The second cut was *fine*. The check came, and while I don't expect a meal to be comped for mistakes, this particular mistake was pretty big and I wasn't offered a free cocktail or dessert in exchange not being able to eat with my family. Not only was it not comped, but it was $8 more. We asked the server to double check it with the menu for the correct price. He explained that there are two cuts of meat with two prices (not listed on the menu) but they only had the bigger cut so I had to pay the bigger, unlisted price. All in all a frustrating experience. Multiple restaurant employees allowed a grey piece of meat to come to the table, didn't offer anything in exchange, and overcharged. The chef and the server were kind -- but my spouse worked in restaurant management for 15 years and this isn't how to handle this situation. read more
