We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the *new*. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new: an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gufamous motto, "Anyone can cook." But I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist *can* come from *anywhere*. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at capt louis, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in the bronx. I was at an even across the street and came across this restaurant through Yelp. I had J as my server who was very responsive. I enjoyed my calamari PoBoy. I also tried lemon pepper fries which were tasty after she brought out a hot order (the first batch was room temperature). My son really enjoyed his food which is odd because he's four. He had fish and chips. Items for the restaurant to consider: family friendly music they had the uncut version of some songs that you shouldn't play at 5 o'clock in the afternoon with families; room temperature temperature all of the food could've been a little hotter; Cole slaw ---definitely not grandma's secret recipe. read more

I love this location of Cap't Loui, I've been to others but the service and food quality here is just amazing. I come here about 2-3 times a week and the food is always amazing, they have affordable lunch specials and the portioning is always great. The tables are big enough for a family and it is nice and big. I always receive the best service here from everyone however, the waiter Johan, he is by far the best employee he should be promoted you would be lucky to have him as your waiter, his service makes me come back to this establishment. This is my first time in Cap't Loui and it was amazing! I didn't know what to get, but the man in the front helped me out and explained to me. I ended up trying the broil shrimp and snow crabs with lemon pepper sauce. The cooked food came out in a bag filled with sauce and they mix it in front of you. When they handed me gloves and a bib I didn't understand what it was for until I dug in it. it was messy but it was so fresh and it taste so good read more

This place is very spacious and clean. The music is a whole vibe when you walk in . The person at the front was kind and seated us right away. Water was brought to our table first . It took less than 10 mins to order . Food came out hot and fresh ! Everything tasted so good. The boil was seasoned very well and spicy. The strawberry lemonade capri sun was sweet and tasty. Place was extremely clean, service was quick and very very pleasant. But most importantly, the food was top notch in quality and taste. Very well made drinks and thoughtful presentation was such an added bonus. I been here a couple of times. I have both the boil and fried food. The po boy was amazing, but I would have appreciated more shrimp. The sauce was great, the bread was fresh, but next time I'd ask for extra shrimp or try chicken for a more full sandwich. The boil was great also! Cap't Loui is overall a very good experience for a restaurant. The seafood was very well cooked and the sides were well seasoned. The service was great as well a good energy was felt around from the staff and it felt like the did truly care about what they were serving. I have had food from this location a few times now. We always get a boiler combo and it is consistently yummy! There are nice portions and always full of flavor. Food is great. We chose the lemon pepper sauce for our bag and ordered calamari, crabs, mussels, and shrimp. We also ordered fried shrimp with fries for my five year old son.
