This is probably the best place to stay downtown. We have stayed at them all. The river view is the best room and the balcony is more private than any others. The prices are very reasonable and the rooms are clean. The views are amazing and the customer service is outstanding.

Gabrielle was extremely helpful, patient, and efficient when helping me choose a room. All the rooms have water views and some have castle views. Lobby was welcoming. Beds were comfy and warm.

Capt Thomson's is only a "resort" if you look at it that way. In reality, it's a motel. I knew this when I booked it, but their name should really probably end with, say, "Motel" or "Lodge by the River." Their best feature? Those wonderful private balconies that back right up to the channel/harbor. If you choose the "Main Channel" rooms, you could NOT ask for a better vaca-view. You get the Boldt Castle. You get the ships that go by. You get the birds and the nature and the islands and the most lovely sunsets. Man. It's just so relaxing and peaceful. Minus the mosquitoes. Those little tool-bags can go fall down a massive abyss together. Yuck. Don't forget the insect repellent! As for the actual rooms: they are motel rooms. Don't expect anything more and you won't be disappointed. They're perfectly fine. Aside from the mosquito massacre we performed on the ceiling (may you all rest in mosquito-heaven peace), they were clean. I usually pocket the little shampoos and conditioners from hotels, but I didn't this time because they weren't that great. The beds were fine, but didn't seem to have been updated any time recently. Capt Thomson's most definitely has the prime real estate in Alexandria Bay. They're right next to Uncle Sam's Boat Tours. You should stay here if you want to take a boat tour. And you want to take a boat tour. So you probably want to stay here. That was our rationale, at least. Plus, Alex Bay has lots of gift shops nearby, too. Make sure to also check out the wine trail! To sum up: If you're headed to the 1,000 Islands, want to take a boat tour of the 1,000 Islands, and want a decent, clean place to stay for a good price: this is a good option -- at least from what I experienced during my June '14 visit.

I researched the area very well prior to booking our weekend getaway at Capt Thomson's, and we were not disappointed. The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and our main channel room balcony looked directly over to Boldts Castle. The staff was very accommodating. The decor was nice too--nautical themed. Only downfall was our noisy upstairs neighbors; however, this is not the fault of the hotel and I am sure if we would have brought it to the front desks attention they would've helped, but we just dealt with it. We will be sure to stay here again on our next visit to Alex Bay! Thank you for helping us have a wonderful anniversary getaway!

My wife and I were looking for a place to stay in the Alexandria Bay that would give us the best Thousand Islands experience. Searching online, it was difficult to see the difference between the different resorts. We picked Capt Thomson's Resort based partially on reviews, but largely on their location on the St. Lawrence River. The hotel has three wings, each offering different views. We stayed in the Main Channel wing and I would highly recommend the same to anyone wishing to stay here. You wake up and go to bed with spectacular views of Boldt castle. I'm convinced that there are not any better views of the castle at other lodging options. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We arrived a little early, but they still let us check in. The cleaners always greeted you with a smile while passing by. During our stay, I found myself needing to print/sign/fax documents for work, and the workers at the front desk were quick to help me finish my business and get on with a relaxing vacation. We found the facilities to be clean. It seems most of the options in Alex Bay are motel style "resorts" and this is no different. The private balcony with a beautiful view is what distinguishes this place. They are also located immediately adjacent to Uncle Sam's Boat Tours. You can even find deals that bundle boat tours together with your hotel stay. They offer free wi-fi. The pools were clean and the water felt warm (we didn't swim). At first glance it appears as they had a hot-tub, but it's just a kiddie pool. Overall, I was very pleased with our stay here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Alex Bay. I would definitely stay here again!

We stopped here based on Yelp rating. The front desk was very accommodating. The room was neat, clean and perfect. The view of Boldt Castle and the water from our balcony is amazing. Beautiful place we don't want to go home.

Finding the entrance was like a game of hide-and-seek gone wrong. There's no signage, zero lighting, and walking back at night from the main street feels more like the opening scene of a horror movie than a relaxing vacation. It's eerie, deserted, and downright creepy. The restaurant? Only serves dinner--no breakfast, no lunch. Good luck figuring out when it opens, though. When I asked the teenage staff at Pointe Grill, they stared at me blankly before going back to fishing and smoking off the dock directly in front of the entrance. It was like interrupting their hangout spot, not asking a simple question as a paying guest. The property itself is in serious decline. Dirty, dank, and reeking of cigarettes and mildew. The smell hits you immediately, as do the scattered cigarette butts littering the grounds. It's clear that upkeep is not a priority. To their credit, the front desk staff were friendly and welcoming--but that level of service unfortunately doesn't extend to the rest of the establishment. The rooms with a view of Boldt Castle might sound romantic, but step inside and it's like walking into a forgotten relic of the 1970s. The decor is outdated to the point of being uncomfortable: mirrored walls, an aging jacuzzi, and cheap, bubbling vinyl flooring that looks like it was installed by someone's cousin over a weekend. The door to our room didn't even seal properly--it looked like it had been kicked in at least once, maybe more. The balcony was filthy, crawling with bugs, covered in vines, and in desperate need of a power wash. The railing was rickety and rusted--definitely not somewhere you'd want to linger with a drink in hand. As for amenities, the hot water took a full ten minutes to arrive, which felt symbolic of the overall experience: slow, neglected, and not worth the wait. For the price per night, this place is a complete letdown. It feels more like a rundown roadside motel than the getaway it pretends to be. Skip it. There are far better options in the area that actually care about their guests--and their property.

When we got there I didn't know what to expect. I am not going to lie but when we got their and saw the house that we reserved it really took us sometime to let this place grow on us. We had reserved a three bedroom suite. Who knew it was literally right next to their office. The three bedroom suite was literally a house. It had two bedrooms upstairs with a very small bathroom. I fit in the shower but it was tight. Each room had a box a/c. Downstairs had another bedroom, modest size dining room, living room and a large bathroom. We had a private deck with BBQ grill which included deck furniture. The place itself was very clean and there was no musky smell. It turned out to be a pretty nice place to stay.

This is why i picked it, that and everything else was picked over. This motel was very easy to find and walking distance from everything in the bay. I was nervous about how dirty it might look or feel, but it wasn't that bad. it does need a make over on the inside of the standard rooms. i peaked in the rooms that have sliding doors and they seemed nicer. the standard rooms need new carpets and bedding. our room had stains on the carpet. the bathrooms were decent with one small sink with of course a toilet and normal size tub/shower. The decor also needs to be updated, but again this is a decent place if you just need a place to crash on a budget. They didn't seem to have enough outlets, no clock, enough lighting, cable, and to lock the door you have a key. There are two levels to the motel on either side of the parking lot and the office is in the front. the parking lot could actually get quite full if everyone is in so then its hard to menuver with the parking lot being on a slanted ground. great views of the Boldt castle across the water. The pool is decent that is 4 feet with an all around deck and lounge chairs. i didn't get to experience this as it was a little colder weather. there is also a dock for people who may have boats and can pull right up to the motel. I have to say one other thing that may ruin some peoples decision to stay, but this is hit or miss. We know for a fact that my boyfriends watch was stolen. We had locked our door every time we left the room and there was a small window in time that it would have been taken. its very difficult to speculate and say who stole the watch, but we could only guess as it was the only time we allowed our room to be cleaned. We had checked everywhere and everything, talked with the office but of course nothing could be done. This was back in July, still hasn't turned up and no call, but the office manager was nice in taking our information. kinda wish that could've done a little something extra (not sure what). unsure if we would stay here again. i had noticed better motels/hotels, hopefully on a better budget to stay elsewhere.
