First time in TI and this place made me feel like home. "The land that time forgot." Will be sure to return here for strong drinks and that feeling that things are at peace, even for just a moment.

Wellesley Hotel, Thousand Island Park, NY

The Hotel has reopened post Covid and we tried it for the first time this season. They have just hired a new chef which I give Kudos . The ambiance is Victorian and the view from the porch is beautiful over looking the historical Victorian village, Thousand Island Park and the St. Lawrence River. The menu is not expansive but lends itself to fine dining. the presentation was excellent. The prices are reasonable. We had the seafood pasta and Caesar Salad. The seafood pasta was loaded with seafood. The wait staff service was excellent. Exciting to have the Hotel open again, will definitely return.

i ordered a vodka tonic which could have used more booze. Their need for a mixologist and better beer choice is besides the main point; the food was delicious. Starting with the bread which looks dull but once you start chewing, you'll find it pops with flavor from the salty crust. Husbear and I shared appetizers: a beet salad and the spicy tuna tostada. The tuna dish was lovely with cilantro and avo and a fantastic orange sauce. The beet salad had a nice flavor too; well worth the trouble it took to cut up the big chunks of beet. After eating the nondescript salad (the greens were nice and flavorful but the tomatoes out of season, croutons hard and pieces of onion not worthy of the housemade dressing), we were given our entrees: i got the chicken and he got the pork. My chicken was moist and its accompanying risotto perfect but did not delight and surprise us the way his dish did. The pork was in a black bean, cilantro-filled bowl which had a spicy sauce that was, like I mentioned, wonderfully surprising. Creme brulee, i will see/eat you again. yum

The waite staff was lovely and professional. The fried calamari was melt in the mouth delicious. The bruschetta was made with fresh tomatoes and very good. They need to learn how to cook NY Strip steak, but they tried real hard and in the end it was fine. Next time I'll stick with the fish. My Aunt raved about the scallops. The lava cake was awesome.

The location was very convenient to the town, walkable to all the restaurants and shops. Our room was very comfortable and spacious, and the bed and pillows were SO comfy. We also had a nice view of the water and boats from the room, which was a bonus. However, the balcony hadn't been cleaned off in a while as there were lots of bugs and cobwebs. The hotel also offers Starbucks coffee on each floor every morning! The breakfast on the patio was good, but the service was a little slow. We also enjoyed happy hour on the patio one night though --the crab dip was delicious, and the espresso martini was excellent. A couple of things to know before your stay: there aren't complimentary bottled waters in the room, but the front desk is happy to provide them if you ask. The hotel also doesn't have a late-night market or convenience area for drinks and snacks, which would have been nice. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend The Harbour Hotel for anyone visiting Clayton.

Breakfast food and service excellent. Large portions. Starbucks coffee free, front desk in morning fantastic. Makes no sense, you can bring free coffee into Restaurant but if you order it with breakfast, $5.00. Front desk, Jacob evening fantastic. Some daytime staff at desk unfriendly and so, so. Shower, no cold water in couple rooms, some only hot water. Still overall recommended. Nice pool and hottub. Large event space and easy parking. Ps Robes are very nice and worth $75. If you need one.

A few days prior to staying at Bertrand's we got a key to the room and after a long day of swimming, boating, touring, etc. we dragged our feet to our room, pulled out the key, and the door wouldn't open. It appeared to be dead-bolted from the inside. Strange. How could it be dead-bolted from the inside. Oh! Someone must be in there. Anyway, we called the front desk. The room was, in fact, given to someone else (who I'm sure was freaking out that a group of people were trying to break in to their room late at night). On the phone, the guy from the front desk was skeptical. A few minutes later he came out looking nervous. After telling a few minutes talking with him and showing him the key to the room he basically wanted us to just go away. Luckily, I had other family members staying in hotel (see Chris B's review) that helped me talk with the guy. After a while he remembered he had a room that just needed cleaning. He took about 45 minutes to clean the room while we hung out in one of my family members room. In the room, one of the beds was completely sagging, the other totally firm. While there wasn't anything specifically dirty about the room it was generally not a good feeling. Hot water was fine for us (but not my other family members). Didn't try the other amenities (or lack thereof, according to the other reviews) as we simply just slept there.

We paid $152 a night including taxes and fees (booked directly through the hotel, not a third party). This hotel is right off Highway 401, so very convenient. We had a room facing the Brockville Convention Centre and not facing the highway, so noise was not a problem. It is within walking distance to a few shops, restaurants, and fast food joints. It's a Holiday Inn Express, so the rooms are pretty basic. No fridge, no microwave. However, you get free hot breakfast buffet, free WiFi and free parking. The rooms were clean. I carry Clorox wipes with me when I stay in hotels and I wipe down all the hard surfaces. The wipes came out white (not grey or black), so I was happy. There were some stains on the fabric computer chair at the desk though, so this was a bit off-putting, but I've seen much worse at other hotels. They have a small fitness centre and pool. I didn't use the pool, but I saw it because the pool and fitness centre are separated by a glass wall. I think it's a bit weird to have to look at people in the pool while you're on the elliptical, but I guess the glass wall makes the fitness centre look and feel not as small. The fitness centre is tiny. The sign says maximum room capacity is 6 people (!) The room only has 1 elliptical, 2 stationary bikes and a treadmill, no free weights/dumbbells, so I have no idea what the other 2 people would be doing, lol. I was a bit disappointed that there weren't any weights, but given the small space, I guess that's understandable. So I had to be a cardio bunny during our stay, haha. The breakfast buffet was good and comparable to other Holiday Inn Expresses. We stayed for 2 nights and the breakfast selection did not change. The hot breakfast was turkey sausage, pork sausage and scrambled eggs. They had a pancake machine. They had cinnamon buns, muffins, bagels, English muffins, and bread. They had oatmeal (with toppings you can add like raisins, walnuts, brown sugar and cinnamon), 4 types of cereal, yogurt, and boiled eggs. They had juices, coffee, tea and hot chocolate (the last 3 are available 24/7). All the staff were exceptionally nice. Stella was very warm and welcoming. They also give you Tic-Tacs in your room when you arrive and housekeeping writes you a nice welcome note. After our first night there, I left a thank-you note for housekeeping along with our tip and mentioned that I loved the Tic-Tacs. When we returned, our room attendant (Kylie) wrote me a nice note back and gave me extra Tic-Tacs! How nice was that? They also called our room on the second night that we were there to ask us if everything was ok with our room (they may have called us on our first night there but we weren't in our room so we don't know). This HIE also has free popcorn in the lobby everyday from 7pm-9pm. We didn't have the opportunity to have any, but I think that it's a very nice extra. WiFi was fast and reliable. Parking was plentiful. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
