Very expensive. poor customer service. not worth the trip to Freeport! $52.00 got me a dozen steamer and one Red Snapper.

I don't know why people bash this fish market. My sister and I, who live in Brooklyn but were brought up in Baldwin, love this place. The workers are incredibly nice, and the fish is always fresh. More important, unlike some of the other fish markets along the "Nauty Mile," this one is more spacious and has lots of open windows. I think that makes a difference when serving up fresh fish. Having been to all of these places over the course of my 63-year-old lifetime, I vote Captain Ben's for President - oops, writing this yelp review on November 4th, 2024. Forgive my mistake. Today I went to Captain Ben's Ive been going there since I'm four years old they literally robbed me the receipt and my charge was different than what was on the register and it was a charge of a difference of $15. They tried passing off of fish for another fish and charging me $30 for a small fish I am reporting them to the department of health to Department of weights and measures and the Better Business Bureau and consumer affairs. read more

Wow the seafood chowder was A+. The friendly lady at check out let me sample ut and it was TERRIFIC. Then i was checking out their cooked section: fried calamaru, deep fried fresh crispy coconut shrimp, large and small crab cakes, as well as other fresh seafood freshly fried. This place has an identity problem. It brands itself as having the freshest seafood on the planet. Far from it. We ordered a variety of items and most tasted like they were from the frozen foods section of King Kullen. Worst crab cakes I've ever had, the fries were ice cold and the baked clams were so heavily salted and smothered with bacon and breadcrumbs that I'm not even sure there were actual clams in those shells. The crab meat was sub-par and we were given plastic utensils and asked repeatedly for real silverware before we got it. The service is horrible and granted it was the first summer weekend of the season, management should have been prepared for it to be busy. We received our apps after our entrees, and drinks ordered didn't arrive until asking several times. On the upside, our server was apologetic and gave us a free drink and didn't charge us for the apps. This was the right thing to do, but it made me wonder how much money this places loses if they give away food every time they mess up. What this place actually is: a fun, carefree atmosphere right on the water, with hundreds of menu items so there's something for everyone. You don't come here for a good meal, you come for a good time. Think TGIFridays quality food and flashy, sugary drinks with a dash of Johnny Utah's silly vibe. When the sun starts to go down, the lasers turn up and the dance floor is where you want to be. Train your employees better and get organized. People want to learn and improve and there needs to be efficient processes in place to help them do their jobs. If you aren't going to change things, be true to who you are and tell it like it is. This is disgusting!!!!! Both my adult kids came to this restaurant and they were treated badly! My son was asked to wear a mask outside at the bar - which is the right call EXCEPT THAT ALL OTHER Patrons were who are non Hispanic were not asked to wear one. How dare you??? One rule for all !!!! So one rule for white Patrons and one for non white? If management is reading this I want your response. Again I don't condone not wearing a mask but you tell everyone to wear a mask. Btw my son did put his mask on and my daughter had one the whole time. My daughter spoke of how she was ridiculed by patrons. Boycott this restaurant. Disgraceful!!!! My father and I have always had Captains Ben's as our go to when we go out on the boat and don't catch dinner. I have been going here since I was alittle girl. The guys are always helpful in there especially when it comes to cleaning and fileting fish. Strangely enough I cant leave here without their super fresh bread at the counter when you pay. I am so conflicted... We have been coming here for years. We have bought lobster, clams, whole fish, etc. What's up with the Chilean sea bass. I saw a worm several months back. How common is this? I was here Labor Day weekend. They moved to new store a just short distance away. Yet another worm (parasite?). I know this can happen with certain types of fish. I don't know why I did not say anything. How could they not see it? I ate at their restaurant once (pretty bad)., but always loved their store. I honestly did not know how many stars to give. This review is about the seafood store, not the restaurant. Asked for five 2 lb. lobsters and they guy "expertly" fished out 3 pounders. I foolishly did not question.
