Our four-hour trip was the perfect mix of relaxation, wildlife, and adventure. Captain Jessica and her crew went above and beyond, providing iced drinks, snacks, and buckets for collecting shells. They took us to Old Hickory Island, where we found some amazing shells, a Pygmy octopus, conch, and a sand dollar. Throughout the trip, Captain Jessica shared her knowledge about the local ecosystem, answering all of our questions about the dolphins, manatees, mangroves, and the area. One of the highlights was when she spotted a pod of dolphins. She carefully brought the boat alongside them, and we got to watch them swim and jump in our boat's wake--it was unforgettable! Communication was outstanding from start to finish. We had to reschedule twice due to weather. Captain Jessica made the process incredibly easy and stress-free. She is friendly, welcoming, and shared lots of great local recommendations for places to visit and things to do. Our knowledgeable guide Brad told us if you go in the late summer (wet season), 2' or so of water is flowing through it. So, what you see in the two seasons is different. They also have a nice gift shop, small museum and a restaurant. We saw all sorts of birds and animals. Even though they aren't necessarily exotic or rare, you are seeing them in their habitat. The ranch property really represents FL, more so than some other types of tours. And, it is for all ages and reasonably priced. Our visiting late teenage aged grandsons and friend enjoyed the tour every bit as much as we did. Highly recommend!

One thing that may help others: you can simply call to make your reservation. That wasn't completely clear to me from the website, but I called, made our reservation over the phone, and the entire process was very easy. Check-in when we arrived was quick and simple as well. Our airboat guide, Josh, was fantastic! He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and made the ride so much fun--it honestly felt like a roller coaster through the mangroves! He was also incredibly helpful when Grandma started feeling nauseous during the ride. He made sure she was okay and took great care of us. The gator experience afterward was another highlight. The gentleman handling the alligators--Pat the "Gator Whisperer," --was extremely knowledgeable and explained that he had personally trained and worked with the gators. We even got to hold one! The scenery was beautiful, the airboat ride was an absolute blast, and everyone we interacted with was friendly and knowledgeable. I felt the train ride itself was a bit unnecessary. There was one nice section of the train ride over water, otherwise there wasn't much to look at. Also the train was swaying back and forth causing me to get a bit nauseous. The food itself was all pretty good! The cheese and fruit plate, potato and leek soup, pretzel roll, and salad were all great starters. I was satisfied with the meal before my entree even arrived! My family and I tried all of the different options (prime rib, salmon, and chicken) and thought they all tasted good. Though I could have done without cranberries in my rice... The dessert was small and light for a cheesecake. Food was surprisingly better than we thought. As for the show, I definitely didn't get how we were supposed to deduce the killer. But the actors did a great job and it was overall a fun night.

The tickets are expensive (makes sense...you're getting a show, a 5-course meal, and riding a train) and being able to buy separately was really helpful for us. Everything the night of the event ran like clockwork. Boarding the train was easy and fun. We had a table in the Gasparilla train car with lovely servers who took care of us all night. Drinks are pretty reasonable (ice tea and water are included, but you can purchase soda, beer, wine, cocktails) and you can even get a full bottle of wine for your table which you can take home if you don't finish onboard. The meal was better than I expected. It started with a fruit and cheese plate, then we had hot pretzel rolls an butter, a delicious potato leek soup, a salad, and then the appetizer. Our choices were prime rib (friends said it was delicious), chicken francese (I loved it) and salmon. Dessert was a cheesecake. The performers were very animated and enthusiastic. These murder mystery shows are always hard for me to actually follow and figure out. I appreciate all that goes into it, but I wish I was a better sleuth. My only issue is that the train ride itself is VERY long at 3 - 3.5 hours. I love a nice train ride, but I wonder if they could shave a little time off the ride.

However, I had an absolutely bizarre experience with the bartender "Justin" on this trip. On the return trip, I approached his bar area to buy a beer. He was actively engaged in a conversation with a man at the bar. I waited several minutes. He never made eye contact with me or acknowledge me in anyway. So, I simply went to the other bar, ordered my beer, and as I turned to walk away, "Justin" was standing right in front of me and confronted me about leaving his bar. He reprimanded me for not being patient while he was giving "good customer service" to the man he was chatting with. I was in disbelief that he would approach me in such a manner, and I turned to bartender who served me and and said "Are you actually seeing this and hearing this right now?" As "Justin" walked away after his rant, the other bartender said, "I thought you knew him and he was just joking with you at first." I said, "No, I don't know him and he wasn't joking." The bartender then concluded, "Well I guess he's just in a bitchy mood tonight." It was just really strange, and an act of aggression as far as I'm concerned for him to approach me like that. When I returned to my seat with my husband, we then obsesrved another young crew member with long beard standing on the corner of "Justin's" bar staring daggers at us as if we were somehow being problematic. I hope someone at Key West reads the reviews and checks the cameras to verify this incident. You will clearly see that I was completely ignored at his bar, and then he came over to me and got right up in my personal space to confront me. Who does that?
