I hate to give bad reviews.... but I can't lie. I really don't like anything about this place. OK, let me correct that by saying the people who work there are very friendly. Ambiance is zero. It wouldn't take much spruce the place up and make it look a little bit more inviting. Food - what can I say... I have just been here for the third time and didn't like any of my three meals. The first time, the breading on my shrimp was under baked and soggy. Last time I had some type of popcorn shrimp I believe it was and it had the weirdest chemical smell that I could even taste in the shrimp.. I have no idea what that was, but I tossed my whole plate in the trash. Most recently I had a broiled crab cake.. I was disappointed that it had so much filler in it, I had expected more crab meat. Also, it seemed so dry, normally when I order a crabcake somewhere, it comes in some melted butter. To top it off, it was served on what I would describe as a cardboard plate. And apparently the oil from the crabcake soaked into the plate and creates a dark brown/green stain. Very unappetizing. Next time my friends go here I'm afraid they will have to go without me. read more

I hate to mention this restaurant as a hidden gem, but once published, it will no longer be hidden. After we traveled to Quakertown with my grandson to play their local U-11 boys team, the family was hungry. After reviewing our possibilities, we chose Captain Bob's. Ordering fried oysters and broiled shrimp plates enough for everyone, we selected a table and waited. Finally, the food was ready, and all of us cleaned our plates. The food was excellent, when we come to Quakertown from New Jersey again we will come back to our favorite restaurant. read more

Food is good, fresh. My issue is with cleanliness. The person that takes your order, your money, writes the receipt; is also the person that picks out your food( no gloves). I asked why they didn't have on gloves when handling all the above. The response was, " the heat of the oil will burn off any germs. When the food is cooked, then gloves will be used." I was taken aback. Hands should be covered at all time when handling food. I will no longer patronize this establishment. Too many different hands handling too many different things. ** read more

Passing through town and found on yelp looking for someplace local to stop quickly rather than a big chain. Very comfortable place! Staff was super friendly. Very casual with a slow but steady stream of what I'm guessing are regulars. Counter service, and not a huge menu but our food was quite good and very reasonably priced. We both had platters which come with fries and slaw. Fries are frozen shoestring type but cooked nicely. Slaw was really good. Interesting that half of the establishment is a seafood Market. Again a steady stream of customers which tells me they have quality product! Nice complimentary businesses. We'd stop again if in the area and recommend you do too! read more

I have been going to captain bobs seafood ever since a friend recommended it over 15 years ago. It's the best place to get fresh seafood. They always clean and devein my shrimp for all my parties. So, I've been to Captain Bobs twice in about the last month. The first visit, was a one star. Todays visit was a 4. The first time, I got the broiled crab cake. What I expected was a crab cake finished under the broiler. What I got was a lead puck. It was so heavy and dense. Flour on the outside. It was horrible. There's a right way to do broiled seafood and a wrong way. Todays visit, I got the fried seafood combo. Which I have gotten on other occasions and am always happy with. Today was no exception. picked up dinner in February while babysitting the new grandson. first thing I noticed when I walked in the takeout door was the smell. there wasn't a trace of fishy smell. not only that, but there wasn't a trace of bleach or cleaning product smell. it's apparent that they have fresh fish, and they clean regularly so you never get a buildup of either aroma. the dinners were excellent. we started with calamari that was good but not exceptional. the broiled shrimp & scallop platter was excellent - nicely cooked and very tasty. my wife had clam strips - plentiful and flavorful. all very well made & more than adequate in quantity. well worth the visit - excellent place. read more

There are not many places like this in the area, it's a frozen and fresh fish market, as well as a seafood restaurant. It is very casual, and when I say restaurant, it's more like take out containers, or paper plates and plasticware, that you can eat there. So , not at all fancy, but tasty, and consistent. The fried scallops are among my all time favorite. The Cole slaw is delicious... as are their hand breaded onion rings...well worth their minimal up-charge. My husband is a big fan of their crab cakes, and he is definitely picky with his crab cakes. They have two 'levels' of crab cakes...my husband orders the higher priced ones, with less filler, more crab meat. Check the hours before you go, they close early and are closed on Mondays. It's a great easy option for a night you want something yummy and don't feel like cooking!! read more

I was ill prepared for what to expect. This is NOT a conventional restaurant, this is a "drive-in" with seating. I found that out through osmosis! The food was equally uninspired. I order (at the window in the other room) clam chowder, the "special fried oyster platter" and a soda. I was given a tray with the chowder, a spoon and a cup with a lid and told they would call my number. No napkins, no further instructions. I had to go back up for my next tray that would hold my platter and a fork---no napkins or knife. It wasn't until nearly finished, I went to take a drink of soda and learned the cup was empty---I had apparently missed that detail :( The chowder was simply chowder, nothing at all memorable and not packed with clams. The oysters were crowded out by the breading, the FF were at best average---but the star of the show was the coleslaw--it was quit nice-----but not enough to cause me to return! read more

After hearing about this place from family forever, I finally decided to stop in and get some seafood for the grill! 60 bucks got me two 9oz brazilian lobster tails (way bigger than we expected - sooo much meat!!!), a dozen bacon wrapped scallops, and 4 GIANT stuffed clams! We get fresh fish once a week and it always delivers on the fresh. They can even get something special if you give them a little time. We once asked for a fish we saw on Masterchef, monkfish or grouper, I forget which but they got it the following week. Always friendly and even when packed, never a long wait. Today I visited Captain Bob's for lunch. I have been coming to this quaint establishment for years and they never disappoint. Located on Route 309 in a strip mall Captain Bob's is easy to overlook. They have a take out side which sells fresh seafood as well as their prepared options. I have never tried any uncooked items but everything looks fresh and I have never noticed that fishy smell you sometimes encounter at fish markets. I ordered the lunch special which consisted of your choice of a fried flounder or haddock sandwich. A tossed salad or cup of New England clam chowder and a drink for six bucks. The cup of chowder was tasty you can tell it's homemade. It was full of potatoes and clams. The flounder filet was a nice size and served on a burger bun. It was fried lightly and tasted delicious with the tartar sauce. I tried the rice pudding which was advertised as homemade. It was okay. I missed the cinnamon which is usually on top and it didn't have raisins which isn't a big deal, but it seemed to lack a richness. The restaurant is decorated with loads of marine decor. There are two dining rooms. One has old school hard molded plastic seating and the other room has tables and chairs. The staff is pleasant and the prices are reasonable. If your in the area I recommend you give Captain Bobs a try. PS The seafood bisque is delicious! read more

Prices are very reasonable for eat in dining. The fish and chip lunch and platters have all been good, but easily skip on the clams. I ordered them twice and each time they were too sandy to eat. I understand that it's fresh, but it still needs to be edible. All in all, it's worth going to when you're in the mood for a quick and inexpensive seafood binge. read more

Despite the staff being friendly we won't be going back. My husband and I got takeout and it was awful. I had the fried crab cake platter and he had the fried flounder. It was not cooked properly. The best way to describe it was they did not have the fryer oil hot enough or rushed it. (They were not busy when we were there) The breading had no taste or seasoning and the onion rings and fries were not cooked or even browned. Extremely disappointed as we have gone here before and enjoyed their food. We were looking forward to treating ourselves and not only was the food bad but the portions were very small. read more

The very next night, we found ourselves ordering again (always a good sign). This place is clean, inexpensive, and their seafood is awesome. You can buy raw fish there so you could cook it yourself, or just eat there. 99% of the people there are old folks, but the food is incredibly great. Sea food is done well, but the calamari is not good. (Way too wet) The thing that seems to bother us most is how early they close on weekends and weekdays! They close as early as 7pm! read more

Captain Bob's is a great place to dine in for some fresh fish (BYOB!) or take some fish home to cook. My fried flounder platter was great although the sides were pretty underwhelming. The prices are cheap and the portion of fish was big so that was good. My fiancée had the broiled scallops and really enjoyed them. I'm happy I finally tried this place but think next time I'll just buy the fish there and eat at home with sides I make! read more
