I love the variety of crab cakes here. I was craving for crab cakes so my boyfriend went and got me some. We tried different ones, some we liked more than others. Overall it was interesting to taste the different ones. Still my favorite is a plain crab cake not battered and without any fillers that is nicely seared. Finally tried this place and am annoyed I hadn't done so earlier! I did not catch that you actually cook your own food so it is not a takeout place or you're going to grab food and go eat real quick. That was my bad. You get seafood options already made and the quick directions to heat them up. It didn't take long. We got a crab cake, a shrimp cake, a crab and shrimp roll, and a clam chowder. Went to Captain Chucky's in Colmar today and found the BEST shrimp for shrimp cocktail; they are large, delicious, snappy shrimp for a surprisingly good price. I also bought the macaroni and cheese because it looked so good. My son said it might be the best he's ever tasted. I'll be going back soon! read more

Captain Chucky's is usually good. Yesterday, 02/14/2023, not so much. I called to see if they had two Smith Islands. CC Yes, we have plenty. Five minutes later I got there and asked for two, the guy asked what else, and I said that's all. He went in the back for a couple minutes. Meanwhile the woman up front started ringing me out. When I handed her my credit card for the $18.00 charge, she asked if I had cash, I said no. Why? CC we don't like to take a card for charges under $20.00. She took it anyway. Just a strange interaction, but then came my dinner. The crabcake was tasteless and dry. I know what a crabcake is supposed to be, and this wasn,t it. Maybe because I didn't want something more, he threw some crap together. I gave this two stars because it was edible, whatever it was. read more

i dont have the most sophisticated pallette but when you compare the crab cakes here with the ones at wegmans, it blows wegmans away. i love wegmans too and was surprised at the margin. just get their signature one which i can't recall the name. there's one with old bay seasoning and i do not endorse that one. just get their signature crab cake and thank me later. oh also the guy in charge, i believe his name is frank, he has had the COOLEST past career in his life. ask him sometime. so damn cool. read more

Even their coleslaw is something special. This weekend, I had the distinct opportunity to purchase FRESH (never frozen) Alaskan King Crab flow in directly from Dutch Harbor, AK. It's been my experience that obtaining such a rare treat has normally been limited to folks residing IN Alaska or at least the Pacific Northwest. Oh boy, did the family-run Capt'n Chucky's deliver!!!! King Crab is sweet and delicious even when flash-frozen at the docks, but this fresh delivery was so very special. This place is great! They have a good selection of sides, desserts, and frozen soups, but if you're going there, your focus should be the crab cakes. They're so good that it's just not even worth it to make them from scratch. I have always gotten the Signature crab cakes and have never been disappointed. The format is "cook at home" so they give you a set of clear directions on your options for cooking them. They even throw in a little container of butter you can use in their suggested cooking process. Besides the absolutely delicious crab cakes, what keeps me coming back is the incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. They have always been able to answer any questions I have and seem to really care that you have a positive experience. I know this is a newer store (they have several other locations in the greater Philadelphia area), so I hope people in this area will support them so they stick around (and so I don't have to commute to buy my crab cakes). read more

I love this place! I've been three or four times now and am thrilled that there is a location in Colmar. The seafood is without peer in the area. I have had almost the entire menu and nothing has disappointed. Obviously for a first visit you have to start with the crab cakes but the soups are delicious as well. The service is quick and effective, you don't waste a lot of time in line or for the food, it's extremely fast and extremely fresh. The place doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is - fresh seafood. The owners are the best part of the experience. They are so knowledgeable, passionate, and will do absolutely anything they can to make your visit a great one! They have a true sense of joy behind the counter and you can't help but walk out of there with a smile on your face! I've lived in the area for 10 years and finally gave this place a try. I was a bit skeptical given its location, seafood place next to flooring warehouse. I was pleasantly surprised. First, love the online ordering app!! So easy to order and pay. Pick up experience easy and fast. Now for the food. Wild caught steamed shrimp were amazing, meaty and fresh and steamed just right. The shrimp were well cleaned, no vein. Price point reasonable, better than Whole Foods and Wegmans. Captains mega colossal crab cakes had lots of lump crab meat, sweet and no bits of shell! Decided to try one of their sauces for the crab cake and got the Sabi sauce, great sauce for dipping anything, crab, fish, shrimp, or chicken. The wasabi crab spread was fresh and creamy and delicious. There are a lot of seafood options on the menu and I will be returning soon. Food is fresh and the store is clean, no fishy smell. I had the misfortune of my wife bringing home a cream of crab soup from this place. The soup was, without a doubt, the most disgusting soup I have ever had in my mouth. It was totally bland (zero taste!) and had the consistency of wall paste. I asked her if she bought it at Home Depot. She tried it and started laughing out loud...and simply took the container and threw it in the trash. Next up...the crab cakes, which were OK, at best. Certainly nothing to rave about and a far cry from a quality crab cake product. Look, the only people who could find anything good about the food in this place would be folks who simply have absolutely no idea what decent seafood is supposed to taste like. Quite frankly, Red Lobster has better quality seafood and that place is beyond horrific. Avoid this place at all costs...just hit the drive thru at McDonald's and grab a filet o fish sandwich instead. read more

I am beyond disappointed! I called Saturday to order 60 Shrimp to pickup up Christmas eve and was told they were not taking anymore orders. I called back and was told I should come to the store when they open and there would be plenty of shrimp. Got up early, made the trip and was told I was limited to 1 pound of shrimp. Eleven guests splitting 18 shrimp doesn't cut it. Not a very good way to do business. read more

Excellent local seafood shop. I've been here a couple of times and I'm a fan and will keep coming back. The crab cakes are the main event however the other items they have are also very good. And the Sami sauce is great. I'd recommend the Smith Island crab cakes of all the types they offer but you can't go wrong. read more
