We stopped in to grab a quick bite by the entrance to the nearby lock and Captain George's was everything we love about a good fish and chips place. Super friendly server greeted us and took our order and she was considerate enough to suggest that we sit at a different table if we didn't want to be right underneath the vent as it was a rather cool day. We opted for their daily special of buy 1 and get the 2nd one half off deal and got 2 cod and chips dinner. The fish was fried very well in a crispy and pleasant (not greasy) batter. The chips were way too much for us to finish, and the accompanying tartar sauce and coleslaw were both tasty. Been to several Capt George's and this one is by far the best location. Great food at reasonable prices with large portions. Restaurant is clean, washrooms are clean, wait staff are pleasant and quick. This is a busy restaurant for a good reason. Seafood prices like everything else have been going up in cost, but the food here is always fresh and well prepared. This is one of the best seafood restaurants in the area. Came on easter friday. I get it that its busy. Ordered at 11 am for a 6pm slot. Got there at 6 and watched him call back a customer who just left and say you pay first. And saw him tell the waitress bes not making the food if be doesnt pay first. On easter friday? The Trenton Captain George 's has friendly service, great food, great portions and decent prices. This is a good overall restaurant for both lunch and dinner if you're in the Quinte area. I've given this place many many chances because I love fish and chips. One piece fish and chips took 45 mins to make then when I received it, it was room temp and soggy. The other times it took almost as long to get the food and I think my meal was hot once out of all the times I've been. The place is generally dingy and unkept. read more

First of all, it was packed in here and the seats are not very big. We sit down and order our food and when I tell you it took a half hour I mean it for real took half an hour. 3 people who came in AFTER us got their food way before us. Every time you go it's very slow service, even when there's hardly anyone in the restaurant. If you order take out check your order! They gave me a different wrap and by the time I got home they were closed. I called to have an order ready for 7:45, 15 minutes before they close and they said I couldn't as that would be too late. It was 7:05 and they are suppose to be open until 8, it was more than enough time to cook and I would've been gone before they would be closed. After this, we dined in, well we tried! Over 30 minutes and no waitress to take our order, she did take our drink order, but then decided she would rather stand around and talk. When I tried to say something they attacked me, saying I was the problem and I should've got up and did her job. I gave them a second chance, still the same. I called in my order, they said 20 minutes for a single order of 2 piece halibut and fries. They took 30 minutes causing me to be late and my hubby to barely have enough time to eat lunch. Regularly order halibut from them and it is always fantastic. The restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly.

Captain George's is a franchise, and the operators are pretty much not bothered by head office. The fish & chips are the best I've ever had, and I've eaten more than my share of f&c, but I'm crazy about that meal. In this particular place, they are not particular at all in regard to cleanliness: I've seen more than one waitress exit the washroom & go directly to handling food, silverware, preparing the take-out boxes, etc. The cleanup guy cleans up the dirty tableware, then goes on to handle take-out food, packing lemon wedges, etc. I've stopped going there. read more
