The Inn then contacted us in early June and told us that they were cancelling our reservations because they had a better offer from someone who offered to rent the inn for a week, overlapping with our nights. We have been unable to find alternative lodgings for family coming from out of state, this late. Very poor business people and do not deserve your business.

It has the basic things covered - it's clean and the beds are comfy, but it quickly feels like a home away from home. It's such a unique spot that it's hard to describe. It's in a beautiful location, right next to a fishing pier, and not far from Horseneck Beach. The building itself is historic and every nook and cranny of the place has interesting art and artifacts. The owner, Brenda, is a great person. We enjoyed the breakfast, and she even had a copy of the Sunday New York Times. What a treat!

For myself, I don't need a B&B with the pricey high-end amenities. When I'm on vacation or traveling, I'm either trying to get away from it all, or can drive to a shop specializing in those things if I really must. Gilbert's was perfect for me. An old family farm, converted to a B&B, was quiet and comfortable. I appreciate the classic, not-so-modern, character of an old home. The interior was tastefully and simply decorated with antique period pieces supplemented with modern decor. The yellow pine hardwood floors throughout the house were gorgeous and were what caught my eye immediately. The old barn and paddock were hiding places for the three outdoor cats. The wild turkeys occasionally perched in the tall trees. The proprietor, an adorable woman, showed me through the house with all the nooks and crannies and hidden rooms that made me realize the house was a lot bigger than it appears from the outside. I couldn't have gone wrong with any room I picked. What made it feel like home, were the interactions with the owners, who greeted me, and the other guests, both upon arrival and at the end of the day when we returned from our adventures. At end end of my visit, I didn't want to leave. I already felt like I was home. And the good-bye hug went a long way to making me wish I could stay and and the same time start planning the next visit. Just like a visit to mom 's or grandma's.

The ONLY issues we've had with this place was we did find some 2 small hair strands in the shower, but overall, the room was still clean. Showering did make us a LITTLE uncomfortable since there wasn't any curtain or covering on top of the window in the bathroom for privacy since we could see the upstairs window of the house next door, hopefully no one was in that house while we stayed since there was construction being done on that house during the day, so I'm assuming the house was currently unoccupied but even when we ONLY had the shower lights on to shower you could still see straight out the window right at that window next door, so if there was someone home they can definitely get "a show" from our shower. Haha. So I HOPE they put a curtain on top for peace of mind for the guests, once the house next door will be occupied. (See pic of bathroom window). Also sometimes guests don't drive & have to take a train in and pack light (we won't always fit umbrellas) so when it rains... if more than just 2 umbrellas could be available for the guests in case it rains, that would be great and that would show extra care. Actually have 2 umbrellas in each room, would be even better because we thought the 2 umbrellas outside the 1st floor room were the guests' umbrellas. Aside from those little things, we'd definitely visit again and stay here, the decent pricing also made us choose this place over the other choices, by the way!

We are in the perfect accommodations for the Moby Dick Marathon that's taking place at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, which is a half mile away. I am in the sitting area of a suite of rooms, and I could not be happier with the place so far. We were greeted by the enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and very interesting host Al, who showed us around this historic property and made a great restaurant recommendation. I can't believe the size and the layout of the rooms we got. We are a group of four: my husband, my mom, and our 14 year old boy. As you can see, we are a diverse group and need our privacy and space. With the two bedrooms and the extra bonus of the sitting room, we all can find a place to be able to relax and not bug each other. You know how a hotel room can get mighty claustrophobic? No fear of that here. There is plenty of closet space, too. The whirlpool tub is yet another perk. I enjoyed that as we arrived, just in from the frosty cold. The old fashioned, hissing radiators are a big plus. It's quite comfortably warm in here despite large rooms and an old home. The location is great if you are exploring New Bedford and surrounding areas. A big thank you to Al and Suzanne for opening this lovely home as a B & B. New Bedford makes a great and unique New England getaway. Highly recommended.

It's in walking distance of my restaurants and shops. It's a short drive to many nearby attractions such as the cliff walk. Randy and Lisa were great hosts. We requested to check in early and they were very accommodating. When we arrived Lisa gave us a rundown of the area and suggested a few things to do/places to eat. The room we stayed in was big, clean and comfortable. We were able to control our own air which we appreciated. Breakfast in the morning was wonderful! Coffee and water was readily available at all times. I would definitely stay at the Firehouse Inn again!

Very personable and a great breakfast chef, she checked and double-checked our requirements and generally made us feel very welcomed. She also has the neatest handwriting I've ever seen in a human being. We'd gladly stay here again, and can heartily recommend this B&B to anyone thinking of staying in the Fairhaven-New Bedford area.

The owner, Paul, and the property manager, Heidi a great team and we had nothing but exceptional service. The place is very clean and gorgeous inside but not overdone. The grounds and landscaping are of tremendous quality and are something what would expect in a world-class place which in a lot of ways is what this is. We were fortunate to have the whole top floor to ourselves and did not have to share the bath, which I am not sure how well that would work. None the less bath was large beautiful tub and shower, tile floor impeccably clean. We will definitely be coming back here.
