It was no more than 10 minutes away from Newport Vineyards and less than 20 minutes away from downtown Newport. Both were easy drives or Uber rides. The inside of the house is absolutely gorgeous and feels like it's been recently renovated. We stayed in the Catherine room, which slept all eight of us comfortably. It was very spacious had a large bathroom and it's own little kitchen. The innkeeper and his partner were phenomenal! They were so helpful throughout the whole process of booking. The house was so well-maintained and we were there when we arrived and asked if there was anything they could help us carry up. They took care of breakfast the next morning, which was absolutely delicious and were just such genuinely sweet people. All of the girls were very impressed. I definitely see this as another girls weekend getaway or couple getaway. It is on a farm, so the outside is very farm like you'll smell the animals and you'll see the cornfield, but it truly adds to the quaintness of the place and you don't smell inside.

For myself, I don't need a B&B with the pricey high-end amenities. When I'm on vacation or traveling, I'm either trying to get away from it all, or can drive to a shop specializing in those things if I really must. Gilbert's was perfect for me. An old family farm, converted to a B&B, was quiet and comfortable. I appreciate the classic, not-so-modern, character of an old home. The interior was tastefully and simply decorated with antique period pieces supplemented with modern decor. The yellow pine hardwood floors throughout the house were gorgeous and were what caught my eye immediately. The old barn and paddock were hiding places for the three outdoor cats. The wild turkeys occasionally perched in the tall trees. The proprietor, an adorable woman, showed me through the house with all the nooks and crannies and hidden rooms that made me realize the house was a lot bigger than it appears from the outside. I couldn't have gone wrong with any room I picked. What made it feel like home, were the interactions with the owners, who greeted me, and the other guests, both upon arrival and at the end of the day when we returned from our adventures. At end end of my visit, I didn't want to leave. I already felt like I was home. And the good-bye hug went a long way to making me wish I could stay and and the same time start planning the next visit. Just like a visit to mom 's or grandma's.

Always fresh water available with coffee, tea, hot chocolate & some biscotti. The ONLY issues we've had with this place was we did find some 2 small hair strands in the shower, but overall, the room was still clean. Showering did make us a LITTLE uncomfortable since there wasn't any curtain or covering on top of the window in the bathroom for privacy since we could see the upstairs window of the house next door, hopefully no one was in that house while we stayed since there was construction being done on that house during the day, so I'm assuming the house was currently unoccupied but even when we ONLY had the shower lights on to shower you could still see straight out the window right at that window next door, so if there was someone home they can definitely get "a show" from our shower. Haha. So I HOPE they put a curtain on top for peace of mind for the guests, once the house next door will be occupied. (See pic of bathroom window). Also sometimes guests don't drive & have to take a train in and pack light (we won't always fit umbrellas) so when it rains... if more than just 2 umbrellas could be available for the guests in case it rains, that would be great and that would show extra care. Actually have 2 umbrellas in each room, would be even better because we thought the 2 umbrellas outside the 1st floor room were the guests' umbrellas. Aside from those little things, we'd definitely visit again and stay here, the decent pricing also made us choose this place over the other choices, by the way!

To the woman who stormed outside because she thought I left the door open? I went to take a picture of the front of the hotel. There was no reason to be so aggressive. Here are some issues we experienced during our stay at the Christopher Dodge House: My first morning after shaving, the bathroom sink had a slow drain. I have a sink full of shaving cream. I told the manager at breakfast and I received a text around 11am saying they'd fix the issue. I left around 1:30pm, the housekeeping-maintenance staff was gone! I spoke with Kate, the front desk manager who was the one who fixed the sink, made the bed and gave us fresh towels. (Love Kate) Our room was very charming. A large King Size bed with a pretty quilt gave us the feeling that we're staying in someone's home. From the exposed brick in the bedroom to the homemade cookies, it was all very welcoming. When Kate gave us a tour, we were shown the coffee station. This was all free but the bottled water is on the honor system and not free? Strange but ok... Let's break it down: Bath products: Dove Shampoo/Conditioner/Body Wash. It did the job, was it special? Nah. Bath towels were thick and plush. Bed/Pillows: Firm mattress, firm pillows. I guess it all depends on your preference. Breakfast: This was some High School Home Economics, basic food served to us. Each day we had two choices written on the blackboard, substitutes weren't mentioned to us. The first day I chose French Toast with bacon. The bacon was overcooked and the French Toast was Wonder bread with hardly any cinnamon. Pure Maple Syrup on each table was a plus. The continental breakfast communal table had cereal, hard boiled eggs and toast. A very basic breakfast selection. Today my wife and I both had the special of the day: Blueberry Dutch Baby. My wife's breakfast was wet and jiggly? Each day we left the dining room underwhelmed. Parking: If you stayed in a hotel, it would cost on average $30 per night. We had free parking during our stay. I had leg surgery a few weeks ago, to check into the B&B it's a very steep staircase to get to the front desk. If you have mobility issues, this would be a challenge. Christopher Dodge House is a beautiful, New England Bed and Breakfast in Providence RI. Free parking and close proximity to everything was a plus.

This Inn is located right on Thames Street walkable to many restaurants & shops, the wharf,…read moremansions, etc. The Inn also is home to one of Newport's best restaurants, Chanterelle. The Inn has a small parking lot plus 3 spots on the street for its guests. One car per guest room. That is a definite plus. We stayed in the Harbor House in the Brittany Suite. The price average to $470 per night. I liked the convenience of using a code to get into the front door of the building and also the individual rooms. No key card or key to lose. Our suite was located on the first floor of Harbor House. You walk into the bedroom area and then there is a sitting area complete with a little kitchen area and further back is the bathroom. The closet was extremely small and there was no room on one side of the bed for a nightstand which was inconvenient for the person on that side of the bed. The kitchen area had a cooktop, microwave, little sink and refrigerator. The refrigerator was stocked daily with juice, milk & water. There were utensils & dishes to use, but there was no skillet/pan to use on the cooktop so it wasn't really usable without a pan. Every morning, a yogurt parfait and a fresh baked pastry was dropped at the door for breakfast. Upon check-in, there was a note on our file that I cannot have nuts or seeds. I thought that was wonderful that they remembered, and I reiterated that restriction includes berries like strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries with Anna who greeted us. Unfortunately, every parfait that was delivered had berries in it. I wish they would've just stuck with bananas and blueberries in mine so I wouldn't have to fish out the fruit that I couldn't eat to give to my husband. Also, there were some pastries I couldn't eat because they had nuts or seeds in them. Although it was great that they put a note on my file, the Inn forgot to honor it. When I brought it to their attention about day 5 of my stay, they were very apologetic and said that they would make sure that my food didn't have nuts or seeds. The very next morning I received a parfait with strawberries and a warm almond croissant, which my husband ate along with his because I could not have it. Ugh! I was surprised for the price I paid for a week at this establishment that my request was not honored. I also thought it would be nice if a couple pastries were savory like with eggs. Other than the couple negatives, the location was great, having a spot to park was good, having a refrigerator stocked with beverages was great, having breakfast delivered to your room was great, the larger room was great and finally, housekeeping was good. I would definitely stay here again and I do recommend this Inn for the positive things I've mentioned.
