I visited Captain Hooks yesterday. I was struggling with whether I should review my order or not and decided that I should. I placed an order for an order of catfish fillets and an order of chicken strips. I got my food home and everything was prepared fresh and fried as I requested. The flavor of the food was good as well, only one problem. This was not catfish. They are obviously passing a cheaper fish off as catfish. I wish I could give zero stars, and it's because of the cashier. I have personally witnessed her being rude to customers on multiple occasions. Management needs to address this before it drives more customers away. I'm also tired of repeatedly asking for all mild sauces, only to receive a mix of hot and mild, followed by an argument with the cashier when I point it out. Then, after that experience, I'm asked to leave a tip. I order from Captain Hooks regularly and spend a good amount of money there, but this experience has become too frustrating. Let's go with the pros first: the delivery was super fast, the food was still hot when it arrived and they fried in clean grease. The Cons: I ordered catfish and they gave me swai, I'm extremely tired of restaurants doing this. Lying to customers and cutting corners, ppl like myself who love catfish know the difference, PLEASE stop this. I shouldn't have to order catfish steaks to get real catfish. The piece that I did eat wasn't seasoned outside of the lemon pepper sprinkle. The onion rings were absolutely tasteless, just unidentifiable mush inside. I like the chicken and the catfish here. I haven't tried the other options. The fries are usually cooked to crispy without my having to say so which is more than I can say about most places! The flavor of the chicken and the crisp is very good. The catfish is fried well. I always order online as it depends on the day how busy they are. I also like the frozen strawberry lemonade. The food is always great but the service is terrible. It's a black lady in there who is a stud who always has piss poor customer service and they just let her act that way. She's always asking for a tip when you pay, she gets an attitude like she deserves a tip, and her customer care is terrible. I hate going in here when she's there. I would have liked a little more chicken, but it was a good amount for the price. My fiancé had their shrimp and catfish nuggets deal which was also around 6. He liked everything. I had a minor issue with a large order 20pc of Perch and 10pc Perch with Lemon Pepper. Immediately upon picking up the order I asked how will I be able to tell the pieces since they were all packed together? I would have preferred that they be packaged separately, so that those who prefer less seasoning would have a choice. I was assured the Lemon Pepper will have a distinct flavor and obvious visual seasoning. Needless to say the order was 30pcs of regular Perch. At the end of my event I called the store to make them aware of the issue. The Manager immediately insisted that the order was correct, and went on to tell me he had even added extra pieces to the order. I responded that while I appreciated the gesture, I was calling because at the end of the day I didn't get what I paid for and the Lemon Pepper pcs were more expensive. He then goes into the typical well bring back the order and we will fix it, seriously dude my event is over I'm not bringing back the remaining pieces 4 hours later. I called to make him aware of my concerns, I wasn't expecting a refund, but some gesture of Customer Service to acknowledge that I had just spent almost $100 would have been nice. To be fully transparent after a few minutes of back and forth he did concede that if I came by the store at that moment he would give me 6pcs of Lemon Pepper Perch for my inconvenience. To which I responded, my event just ended my last guest just departed I'm too tired for that to which he agreed the same concession would be available the next day. Needless to say I did not take him up on his offer mainly because the initial tone of his conversation was very combative, and I must say that was just my opinion. I've worked in retail for over two (2) decades, and good customer service doesn't lead with your wrong. It should start with "what can we do to make this right for you? I also got the "you people are always trying to get over" vibe from him. I'm sure if he was operating in Barrington he would have never asked the customer to bring the food back! But I'll just take my large orders elsewhere in the future. My wife and I are members of many organizations in the South Suburbs and we place large catering orders of 3-5 hundred dollar's regularly. This was a small last minute get together and this establishment was recommended from a family member. I ate here for the first time on this past Thursday, February 1, 2018 and have lived to regret it since this time. First of all, the manager was knee deep in cleaning the fryers prior to closure. This gave me pause as I had never witnessed this at any restaurant previously. I asked multiple questions with regard to this practice and was basically given information that made a bit of sense to me. My work in the past has been as a restaurant reviewer and investigator paid by the state to ensure that all health policies and procedures were being followed. This restaurant would have failed miserably. I basically placed an order, paid for it, left, arrive home to hopefully enjoy the fish and chicken I purchased. NOT SO! The food lacked any taste at all, the chicken was overcooked and the fish tasted old. It in effect had no taste at all. I went back the next day to request my money back and was rebuffed but told I could replace my order. I did so, reluctantly. The manager basically side-eyed me and immediately said NO to his cashier. I again noted health department violations (is the flour changed during the course of the day, how often (flour carries meat contaminates)) is the fish cooked in different fryers than chicken, how was the chicken and fish pre-prepped, how are French Fries managed; how hot is the oil, was the meat tested according to health department regulations once the food was cooked; did the workers use and change gloves appropriately and the like, are workers talking to each other or paying attention to clients/customers; more specifically, were health and safety regulations followed)? Absolutely NOT! I took the food prepared for me and tossed it immediately in the garbage. The ultimate insult occurred when I received a phone call from my bank the next morning about 6:00 a.m. asking if I had made a large purchase online that morning (February 1, 2018)? I had not and thankfully the fraud department detected the fraudulent purchase. The last place I used my Debit Card was at Captain Hooks. It took a very long time for the cashier to return my card to me. Not accusing the cashier just wondering. At any rate, I will NEVER eat here again and will advise my friends and family members NOT to EVER eat there again. This restaurant shouldn't even get 1 star, this is truly a piece of s**t restaurant....EVERY time I've received an order for this restaurant they tell me they gave it out already (which is a damn lie)....I'm a delivery driver and got an offer 24mins after the customer placed the order and by some miracle of God they were able to cook and hand out the order before I got there but the customer never received her food and no other driver was assigned the order either.....not only did they refuse to fulfill the order but they lied about handing it out in the first placed (cuz when a restaurant clears the order from their tasks once competed it will alert me that the order is ready for pickup and I was alerted as I was walking out the door after they told me they handed it out) but they also refused to take calls from driver support (they placed the agent on hold and proceeded to play on their cell phone).... FYI if you are thinking about placing any mobile orders with this restaurant they refuse to fulfill any mobile orders, in the midst of this "pandemic" for those of you who don't want to leave home this place will not honor your mobile order, you will have to physically go to the restaurant yourself. Captain Hooks is becoming my favorite chicken spot in the south Chicago Suburbs. After countless disappointing encounters with Sharks, and most recently Harold's, I have had enough with amateur customer service and will only take my hard earned coins where they are wanted. The guy behind the counter (I can't remember his name, its been years since I have lived in IL) and his crew have been there for a while and are the nicest. They will tell you about specials, save you some change, and also will be open and take phone orders right before closing. Harolds on Halsted would never. The wings actually taste like extra lemon pepper when you ask for EXTRA LEMON PEPPER, and they are cooked and cleaned as perfectly as a chicken shack can. This place is quiet as kept a VERY good local seafood spot. I'd been hitting my local Sharks and figured all of these places were clones and boy was I wrong. This spot is better than Sharks in every way. Better food, better prices, and better combinations.
