I have noticed that people in the suburbs tend to pile up at the bar in an otherwise empty restaurant. Nevertheless, I got to enjoy space in the main dining area without having others on top of me. I ordered a few landings so that I could try a few selections. I started with a bowl of lobster bisque. Unlike lobster bisque at a lot of restaurants, this was creamy like what you get at restaurants in the Atlantic Northeast. My second landing was cornmeal crusted oysters. These came as deep-fried oysters over creamed spinach and topped with an aioli. I am not a fan of oysters as-is, but deep fried and served the way they were at Flossmoor Social, I would certainly order them again. My third landing was saffron risotto and mushrooms topped with salmon. This dish was outstanding. And having had two prior dishes, I ordered a Smoked Young Fashioned cocktail to pair with the risotto. It was Old Fashioned meets smoke. I finished with a small bowl of lemon sorbet, which was refreshing and light given all the food I had beforehand. I score high marks for the service. Where I will raise a flag is with the speed in which everything came to the table. The lobster bisque and the oysters arrived at the table at the same time. No sooner than I was finishing the oysters than the risotto arrived. I imagine the size of the restaurant may create the need for trying to turn table around fast. Food coming to the table in quick succession results in diners speeding through the dishes. When food is flavorful, it should be savored, not rushed.
